Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not the worst outcome .. We played some of our best footy this year without Gawn.. Watts, pedo and tmac were incredibly effective rotating through the middle. And come to think of it.. Mummy is 31 now and clearly past his best. Getting Gawn as their permanent ruck makes sense. Could be a huge left field trade brewing here.

FFS Gawn is not getting traded

I could see us trading Gawn for an elite A+ midfielder, but only in an alternate timeline where we had drafted Darcy Parish and Paddy McCartin.

I don't think its that crazy an idea when you consider we've had no elite superstar mids since Flower (According to Demonlanders) - but we've had 3 of the best and most innovative ruckmen of the modern era and no premierships to hang our hats on.

And we lose Gawn we will be without a decent Ruckman since Jeff White (apologies M Jamar).  The idea of trading Maxy is beyond nuts.

And what exactly did jeff white do for us, other than looking like a ruckman.  In comparison to Steven King, he was nothing but a neat footballer.

Better in his early days, and faded away to not much.

Well King was effective in his sides finals games.  Didn't need to be flashy, just effective.

This sums up every teams premiership ruckman in the last few decades. Who will remember Mcevoy, Hale, Boyd, ottens, Jolly, Keating out of these premiership teams? No flashy AA level ruckmen, just players that physically scrapped and did enough while surrounded by superstar mids. Nankervis will be another forgotten ruck if the Tigers win this year picked up for peanuts.

Cox is probably the exception as he was a class above all ruckmen of all time. You'd newly add Paddy Ryder to the list of AA ruckmen that wont be around come grand final cup presentation.

Just heard from my old man who deals with a few clients who are close to Melbourne officials,  that Gawn could be on the move as we are looking to use him to secure Lever and retain our top picks to then get Gaff. They believe with the way the game is evolving that having that extra runner in the midfield in the form of Watts / Pedo / Tmac rotating in ruck we are less reliable on just winning hit outs and become more unpredictable.

Very complex deal, up to 4 clubs involved something along the lines of Gawn to GWS, their 1st rounder + 2nd rounder to Carlton, Gibbs to Adelaide, Lever to Melbourne. Our pick 10 for Gaff and looking to land another experienced player through free agency from Geelong, that's all I know (starting to think it's Motlop, wants a fresh start and would compliment as another outside runner and also to help support Jeffy and look to improve his forward line pressure)

Don't shoot the messenger. Cheers.

I'd be all over this. This is a finals team.

Jetta -- O McDonald -- Frost/Smith

Hibberd -- Lever -- Hunt

Gaff -- Oliver -- Vince

Petracca -- Hogan -- Motlop

Garlett -- T McDonald -- Watts

Pedersen -- Viney -- Jones

Salem, Lewis, Brayshaw, Tyson

I know Gawn had an interrupted year, but we proved our game style held up without him and he really struggled in the second half of the year. My fear is he's the next Mark Jamar (ie. one-hit-wonder). If there's a chance we could cash in at his highest value (ex-AA), I'd do it, as long as club culture is strong enough to keep the younger guys together. Gawn is a superior leader to Jones IMO, so his leadership was missed when he went down. And most importantly, you have to make some tough decisions to win the ultimate sometimes and trading Gawn would be one of them (think marketing, face of the club etc).

The olny fly in the ointment is that we are getting rid of Spencer.  We have no 'insurance' if Gawn goes, and the ruck concept comes back into fashion.  We need good big men that can take contested marks (we were thrashed in this department all year).

Gawn is worth more than Lever, so we would want to get a bucketload back if we were to allow him to move.  It would strike me as nuts, but I am not the FD.  Better is to redefine Gawn as a forward/ruck and rotate him more heavily.

I'm not sure that's true. Ruckmen are replaceable. Defensive readers of the play that can fill key positions are a lot harder to find.

We would not have delisted Spencer if we intended to trade Gawn. Our ruck stocks are slim enough as is.

Who would ruck for us next year? Max King?

Unless we're freeing up spots on the list for mids. It is quite possible we don't rate the ruck position. It would be a bit of an about-face given how much we banged on about how Gawn would give us first use etc, but I think we also have to be open to the possibility that when we fell in a heap at the end of this year, certain aggressive list strategies were put in place to improve. Goodwin is certainly tactically aggressive on the field. I wonder how aggressive he is in trading ground.

I've advocated for Gawn to play more time up forward, but on second thoughts: His move to FF in the final quarter against the Pies was terrible. Looked so out of place and probably cost us some goals. You could tell Goodwin was trying for a creative unconventional match winning move, but it backfired.

Joke. Did you miss the link between King's foot and White's face?

Forget it...

No I didn't miss it,  just as King didn't miss. Unfortunately.

We too often look for proper looking players, instead of those who just want it, & get it done.

Gawn doesn't work up forward. And when the ball hits the deck, we get killed on the rebound. Their Maynard run off half back unchecked the entire game.

Gawn is best played in the ruck with licence to roam forward and drop back. That's where he played his best footy, but he's not agile enough to play lone forward.

I maintain I'm okay with the idea of trading Max.

Why would we delist Spencer and trade out Gawn ?

Has to be fabricated.

Because we have another ruck tee'd up?

Yep, we could aim to trade ourselves to a premiership by trading out redundant players like Gawn, Watts & Salem and trade in Lever and another couple of in-and-under mids who will "win the contested ball" and a KPF who will "crash packs". Because you can never have too many of them, can you?

To be honest, I'd love to see Watts go. Absolutely nothing against him, in fact I love the mean, but I'd like nothing more than to see him improve and succeed. Unfortunately, and  I hope I'm wrong, I just can't see him living up to his potential at the Dees. No matter what happens, he'll always be one of my favourites

Trade watts and pick 10 for gaff And Tom lamb .

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
