Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The results are in. Our best and worst set shots are .........

Best: Tom McDonald (23 shots, 18 goals, four behinds, one miss, 78 per cent accuracy)
McDonald was moved to the forward line out of necessity, with Jesse Hogan and Jack Watts missing for decent periods during the season. The usual defender kicked 19 goals over a nine-week period, including a career-high five – with the match sealer – in a thrilling finish against West Coast in round 14. With Hogan back in the team, McDonald has shifted back to a permanent position in defence. However, the Demons know they may be able to call upon him and throw him into attack to provide a spark in the finals.

Worst: Tomas Bugg (10 shots, two goals, seven behinds, one miss, 20 per cent accuracy).
Before serving his six-week suspension for striking Sydney's Callum Mills, Bugg was playing an important role in Melbourne's forward line. Often employed as the pressure forward, the Western Bulldogs clearly weren't ready for the defensive job Bugg performed on Jason Johannisen in round 13. However, despite putting himself in good spots to be used inside forward 50, Bugg's radar was off target with four behinds and zero goals, and then three behinds and no goals against North Melbourne in round nine and Gold Coast in round 10. It remains to be seen whether he can regain his spot in Simon Goodwin's team leading into finals.

The question is; Who do you want kicking for goal 5 points down at the final siren?

Watts for me. Sensational stuff from McDonald so far, but it's a small sample to draw from compared to Watts, whose set shot routine has held up since he started.

Think you need to specify a range.

Eg. From around 50, I'd like Watts or Milkshake but not Jesse.

From closer in - Watts again, Garlett, Jones and a couple of others.

Excellent point. Milkshake on the run from 50 too.

We'd have quite a lot of players with good routines. I'd be comfortable enough with any of Watts, TMac, Petracca, Pederson, Lewis, Jones, Brayshaw, Melksham, Salem and Garlett. Add Hogan if it's within 35m.

I wouldn't be able to watch if it was Bugg, Kent or Tyson.

How far out is important. Can’t imagine anyone here, or even Jesse himself, would want Hogan with the ball over 30 metres.

You want someone who actually wants the pressure shot. Watts is proven as is Lewis and you reckon Petracca would back himself to kick big goals.

Does anyone else think it's surprising that Jesse can only kick about 45m?

He'd be so much more dangerous if he could kick as long as Milkshake or Hunty.

Hogan slotted 6 straight rather effortlessly last game.

I think when he's in the right headspace he can be deadly accurate.

Hard to split Milkshake and Vince from outside 50 on the run IMO. But Milkshake has probably kicked more of them recently.

I still think Vince's best position for us is as a goal kicking half forward. His short kicking in defense has cost us a number of times.

I was only looking at the three players mentioned and picked tmac. His style when kicking for goal is excellent. Why does he kick so badly across the backline. Brainfades I spose.

Out of everyone else then Salem.

Vince is beautifully skilled. But the question on Vince playing forward is if he has the engine/work ethic to push high up the ground and then run to tackle like a madman in the forward 50. Hannan, ANB, Petracca and Harmes are all playing this role really well at the moment and are the key to our 'outnumber at the contest' game style.

Me! Boyhood dream and all. I can see myself getting chaired off the ground as thousands cheer in adulation, and cringing Collingwood players are forced to bow and scrape, as fair maidens cast rose petals in front of my path.

Sigh. OK. Back to reality.

Inside 45 Watts. No question. If he has it there I have already mentally counted the goal, and am surprised when he (very occasionally) misses.

Outside 45... Hmmm. Probably Vince or Milkshake.

Hunt would be pretty hard to go past if it came to 55+, but whether it was a fluke or class needs to be tested again.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
