Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 23

I would like to see Watts included this week.

If he doesn't get a game this week and with Casey only having one regular season game remaining, would Watts be eligible to play finals for Casey?

If he does front for Casey again and we make finals that would make it a month out of the side.

Can anyone see him selected for an elimination final if he doesn't play this week and we have a full squad to choose from?

We're way more injury depleted than them.

Aside from Viney, who from our best 10 players is injured?

A lot of our injuries are to depth players. In the middle of the year a lot of our best players were injured but we are getting fit players back at the right time.

Yes.  Even his critics here are saying he is in our best 22 and should be in the team for finals.

A worse case scenario is Jack is not selected this week and also plays at Casey during the AFL bye and comes in for the Elim, if we make it.

But it would be a brave Goodwin to leave him out this week and risk losing and then the planets misalign and we miss finals altogether.  If that happens I would be ropable!

It would be an even braver move to leave him out of finals altogether (if we make it).

Collingwood won't trouble us.

You can't fight human nature, and when there's nothing to play for (And you kinda hope your coach gets the sack) you can try to fire yourself up as much as you want but at the first sign of push back your mind naturally starts going into self preservation mode, Mad Monday mode, and theres a few players there that have their minds on other things.

The beleief in this young group is huge and they grew up watching the Demons lose. to be a part of the team that broke the 11 year drought and the pride in saying "We did that, we are the reason that the Demons don't get laughed at anymore"

And it's just business as usual for Jordan Lewis...Another September where he has to work.

Demons by 24.

Back slaps for Watts and Salem at training this morning after the huddle in the centre of Gosch's Paddock towards the end.  They are in the team.

Frost prominent in terms of a bowed head for much of training - the separate thread on his future may well have some currency.

Thanks for the update, can you provide a bit more colour on frost? Any other things you saw from training?

Are they training with 100% intensity at this stage of the season or more recovery?

This would suggest, stretch and Wagner out for watts and salem. Fantastic call.

TMac and Hannan formed the rehab group initially (but joined in general training later on).  No Viney.  Everyone else was there (other than the long term injuries).  Vandenberg was wandering around the area early on.   Everyone looked up and about except for Frost as noted

I originally misread the referred to post , but I do agree with the essential tenet. Just pick the best 22 for the day.

No second guessing ability, no crossing fingers regarding fitness , no time for anything other than going with best-ready.

This might/will change from week to week also

Least we don't have Razor Ray again, that guy just hates us.

Razor Ray just loves Razor Ray. He loves picking out the technically correct free but struggles (many would say deliberately) to umpire in the 'spirit of the game'. Even in that saints game he had a couple of dubious calls that went our way in the final term.

The fact that every club's supporters complain about him equally should tell you all you need to know about his bias.

Goodwin has not done this ever and I don't expect him to start now. Daniher used to do this. Pick his faves when they IMO didn't deserve to be picked. Its a flawed strategy.

Give me 22 goers over 22 talented players out of form any day.

And what is a 'best player'? That's like saying pick 'Sylvia because he has so much talent'. You would then probably complain because he didn't run, spread or go in hard enough.

Goodwin will pick 22 players that can play their roles. Its not that hard.

I think your average Demonland punter fails to acknowledge the emotional impact selection can have on the playing group. Morale is super important. If the players see inconsistency in selection or the coach playing favourites then they lose heart. Good football clubs are built on trust and honesty. When the coaching group lays down expectations and leaders create minimum standards you can't just throw that stuff out when we get to September and say "just name the best 22 regardless of form". They need to see follow through on all the talk coming from the coaches and leaders. Team-first is an expression we hear a heap. We also hear a heap about players who know and understand their role. 'Best 22' is an interesting concept. Best 22 in talent? Best and most balanced 22? Maybe we should focus on the most effective 22. And then perhaps go further and focus on the most effective 22 against the opposition for that week. I fear for Jack Watts. If our gut instincts are right and he gets selected tonight, I hope he delivers. It's been a long and arduous journey and I've held on to the belief that one day Jack will be smiling along with the rest of us but he can't dish up what we saw since his return this week. When up and about there's no doubt he's in my most effective 22 against any opposition but inconsistency continues to plague his game. And it's hard to trust someone whose performance fluctuates as much as his.

True that G, but you just keep an eye on this clown. Remember the umpire balls-up last week with the Eddie decision? Yep that's right, Pannell. His punishment for said [censored]-up? You get the Dees this weekend! In fact, we have two of the umpires from that game, where we witnessed one of the most lop-sided free kick counts of the year. This is gonna be fun. Not!

Collingwood CAN take us out of the finals. Not alone, but they can provide the foundation.

Bucks will implore them to play for the jumper, the club, their pride. To go out on at least a winning note. To spend 100% and leave nothing/NOTHING out there as there is for them no tomorrow.

There is a thought that when at war beware the foe that has nothing to live for. He may well present as your worst nightmare.

Make no mistake....they have something to play for....it's just not what we have !!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
