Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Buckley's Demise

Recommended Posts

Didn't Buckley say after last season that if the filth didn't make the finals then he wouldn't coach them anymore. What a hypocrite.

Be all that as it may I hope Buckley ( who probably already knows ) and the team know he is coaching next year before the game Saturday as I think they will be easier to beat than a mob giving him the last hurrah.

I really really want him to stay so he drives them further into the ground. I wonder who the next aging injury prone over 30 player he will recruit this year?

The year after next, The aging injury prone player Eddie will recruit, will be Scott Pendlebury as coach. Another unlikeable overly serious captain that will have half the playing groups respect.

Sack the recruiter, get in a new one.

Change the assistant coaches.

Get in a Roos-type mentor for Bucks

New football manager

New fitness people

Different brand of oranges for half time

..... and then hope that against all evidence to date, that Bucks can coach.

All so Eddie doesn't have to admit he made a mistake.

Interesting ( read ...delicious ) dilemma for the Poies !!

Either they  turf Bucks, or they keep him. But if keeping him they can't just sign him for another year, nor would I suspect Bucks agree to that. So any which way they are now faced with rolling Dice big time....all with no certainty.  Wonderful watching someone ELSE  stare into the abyss !!

If Buckley was going to be dispensed with, we'd almost certainly know about it.

The Pert departure was the 'tell' in my eyes.  The other tell is how many of their players going in early for ops.

At best, he's an average/reasonable coach.  And their list is average as well.  At times it looks like they're switched on and playing for him but most of the time they're not.

One good game followed by an average one then a shocker.  And they don't win when they're average.

Collingwood are going to dead set be ready to knock us out of the finals. also Howe and Dunn will want to knock us over as well.

Ed said on his breakfast show on monday how much the pies want to win and maybe knock us out.

We have to be switched on and ready to go from the 1st bounce.

The funny thing about this Buckley situation is that I swear I remember Nathan himself saying that if they didn't make the finals he would step down himself.

FWIW I actually don't think he's a bad coach, but it might be a case of he knows more about the caper now that he's been in it longer. He should've done a full apprenticeship at a different club to gain some alternative insights. It was a stupid romantic move by Eddie and it's backfired.

As for how things could play out Sunday, we need to look at this as a final. It essentially is in a lot of ways. Play it like it's an elimination final, hit them hard, and play like men possessed. We ARE better than them, we just need to bring the finals intensity to this game and we'll win.

A 15 goal win would end Buckley and probably Eddies tenure and might give us a good push onto the finals.

There is nothing more certain than them retaining Buckley; win, lose or draw.

Heads will roll all around him, but not his.

Sanderson and Gotch are the only 2 others going again next year, none of the other assistants have had contracts have been renewed.

I think even the receptionists may as well clean out their desks too - complete clean out.

The Collingwood members have had a gutful of Buckley and they're cooling on Eddie as well. On that basis, I hope both stay on. They're doing just fine.

Buckley need a few major things

1) A director of coaching wh understands how to build an empire. Like Paul Roos

2) An assistant coach with an understanding and even an influence on the way the game is played. Like Goodwin.

3) Fitness staff? When Mission came to Melbourne he had a 3 year plan. I don't think Collingwood'a GPSnumbers would match ours. They might but then their runnining patterns are wrong. See point 1 and 2.

Who Eddie. He surely want's them to fail.  He broke the premiership circle, got rid of the winning coach, for his love child coach in waiting.

And now he overseas the removal of others like the CEO, etc.  All the while he just smirks, & hides in his media smart ways.

Their demise since 2011 has been Melbourne-esque.  Every part of their club has slowly become a rabble.

  • Recruiting:  wasted top draft picks on poor choices (Freeman, Kennedy) and 'young stars' (Treloar, Adams, WH-E, Aish).  Then burdened themselves with ageing, injury prone and expensive list cloggers.
  • Football Ops:  Revolving door of Football Managers and Directors with Walsh, Eade, Balme, Gubby, Walsh
  • Admin:  Long standing favourite son CEO gone.  Now looking at Lethlean who has no experience at club level
  • President:  Keeps finding new ways of embarrassing himself and his club with ignorant comments.
  • Team:  Has a few smart alec players who think they deserve to be playing finals because they work hard.  Have yet to learn the meaning of 'Team' or what their game plan is.
  • Coach:  Has surrounded himself with buddies and can't develop or communicate a decent game plan.  Saved only because of love child status with Eddie.

They are deluding themselves if they think a bit of tweaking here and there will get them out of the quagmire.  They are in for more pain before they realise they need to do a proper list rebuild ala Demons (WB and Carlton) but as usual they want the quick fix to buy their way back up the ladder.

I like Eddie but he is blinded by his passion for his club.

Popcorn time!

Surely a successful club with all the money and resources that collingwood has have the correct coaching staff on the books.

sack the coach and risk any prize recruits coming your way .

I look forward to lever or kelly signing with a finals team with a steady and positive future.

Yeah, I like Eddie.  He has been good for football despite his bloopers.  Now his passion for his club is blinding him to what really benefits his club.

As an update: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/revealed-pies-secret-blueprint-for-future-success-including-revamped-footy-department/news-story/c36d3fcbf1915621d970e6a0456e0779

If its true that Ch7 were able to film thru a boardroom window it is mind-boggling incompetent by Collingwood.

On the list of things to fix is:  "Improving specific areas of Collingwood’s game, including kicking skills, goal kicking, tackling and ruck work".   One wonders what Buckley and co have been doing for 6 years.  They should let him go.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
