Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Jack Watts: Jack had 20 possessions, including nine contested possessions, 11 marks, three clearances and kicked one goal. I thought he played a significant role on the weekend, particularly in the middle part of the game, where we needed to change some things up in the middle of the ground. He was able to play as a midfielder and give us some composure, plus some fierce ball movement, which opened up and gave us some scoring opportunities. That was a significant move in the day, which added real value in that part of the game. I was happy with his team-first attitude and engagement of VFL footy. He had a big influence on the game for us.

This helps solve the "problem" of playing him alongside Hogan and Pedersen.

He can rotate further up the ground and through the middle (replacing Stretch, really).

Rubbish, we pay coaches the big bucks to get the most out of their players. That's their job.

The biggest superstars have only become such as a result of their coaches keeping them in check when required, motivating when required. Every player needs something different to get them motivated. To get the extra 10%.  Some need Confidence, others need a rocket, some need to be left alone. Just depends on the personality.

I think Goodwin has worked out what Watts needs to get his best.

I think I might have found a flaw in this argument. If Goodwin has already worked out what Watts needs to play at his best, why is Watts playing in the VFL?

Sitting in front of the fire last night encircled by smoke from my cheroot listening to miles Davis on my stereo it came to me in a white lightning moment.....

Just one change and it's a point of difference...bring big wild Frosty in for Wagner and play him on the wing like a runaway bull careering up and down the members wing totally out of control...

Last time Wagner played a worst on ground pie like last week he followed it up with being one of the best. He might need to go for Salem. But I'd keep him.

Watts is Collingwoods nemesis. He has to play a week out from the final

i would drop Strech and let Watts play that role.

IMO this is a risk we cannot take. We need to win to play finals for the first time in 11 years, we cant flaunt with selection, we need our best 22 in form players playing. We are either serious about this year or we aren't. I thought Wagner was terrible and should be dropped pronto. A bad game from Salem is better than a good game from Wagner IMO

Can't get much more of a glowing review than that. Only real omission is the mention of getting back to AFL level.

From Plapp's review of Bugg I'd say he'll be in the VFL for a few more weeks.

Watts has probably done enough to earn a recall but he might just be unlucky due to team balance. I think the move into the midfield really showcased his ability to play a variety of roles, but if he's been pigeon holed as a tall marking forward in Goody's structure, and he only wants 2 tall forwards, then there's no way he'll be picked.

Jack had a good season a few years back off half back.  With our forward line going ok right now, and our need for great ball users off half back and into forward 50, why not put him back there ?  He'll get plenty of the ball, deliver it well, and Pedo and Jesse would be salivating....

Possible Ins:

  • Viney is an obvious in if fit, but our flag chances are probably higher if we give him another two weeks to recover. So, I would be inclined to give him another week off, but if he does come in, I would drop Tyson.
  • I am a big Salem fan and think he adds a good mix of class and hardness to our side. So, Salem is an automatic selection for me if fit.
  • While Watts’ endeavour is frustrating, he too classy to leave out IMO.
  • Frost is a super athlete, but his skills were very poor in the difficult conditions in Darwin, Hobart and Canberra. I really like what Frost can bring, but I understand the argument against having Frost, as well as Oscar and Tom McDonald in the same side. This is the hardest decision for me, because I like Frost's intensity and Oscar still makes a lot of schoolboy errors. And maybe we will need all three against the tall forward lines of Sydney, GWS, Port, Adelaide etc.
  • Bugg could come in, but is really depth IMO. I would have him behind ANB, Hannan, Watts, Tyson, Harmes and Brayshaw.

Possible Outs:

  • Wagner has been ordinary at AFL level this year.
  • Stretch, who I still think can make it as an AFL player, will likely make way for better players.
  • Hannan is very exciting, but has not been getting much of the ball over the last month.
  • Tyson is struggling to hit targets by hand and by foot. I also think the balance of our side is an issue.
  • Harmes and ANB are often brought up because of their below average skill level, but they play an important role in running hard and enabling our outnumbering game style.

This week I would go with:

Ins: Watts, Salem

Outs: Wagner, Stretch

it's a tough call these days. Gus return to the fold seems to have eliminated a chance for others. Pedo has become a best 22er as has ANB,

Bugg is over his 6 weeks.

Watts took 11 marks in the VFL.

Frosty only had a couple of bad ones b4 dropped.

Salem is available.

JKH has shown a lot of improvement.

Maynard is knocking.

Not sure about Kennedy but he has been playing well from all reports.

I hope Watts gets back in with Salem.

Wagner and Stretch out for me.

Dont think Viney will be ready.

Assuming Viney is not ready, the 3 players in contention are Salem, Watts and Frost.

Personally I would have all of them in.

To do that Wagner and probably Stretch go and one other. This is where it gets hard.

My gut feel is the two outs will go and therefore only two come in.

I think Salem is a lock, so its one of the other two.

As crazy as Frost plays, I liked the idea of letting him loose on a wing, with his height and pace, he could cause havoc for the opposition.Even having a stint in the ruck and then following the ball like a big mid, he could become a very dangerous player. He actually has the pace we need on the outside as well.

Tough call this week by the selectors.

First post in a while:

Put your house on this happening (from a reliable source!!!)

Watts and Salem IN

Wagner and Stretch OUT

And for those thinking about who gets dropped for VINEY in the coming weeks, Tyson better not play and run like he did last week, as he looked as though he was running on a treadmill a fair bit on the weekend.

I think Hannan must stay in. He's perhaps been a bit off the boil in recent times but he could easily take advantage of any Chaos in the Collingwood back line and snare a couple of goals. If Jeff comes good and does likewise, that goes a long way to winning the game. Hannan can usually hit a target too and he has a quick mind.

I think Viney has to take more time to heal.

Yep, tend to agree with this.

Interesting and instructive that both Watts and Salem, in their two-week hiatus, got reported.

I'm really hoping Viney plays, I don't think it's a coincidence that in the week he was out we got smacked in the contest, particularly early.

For me I hope:

Viney in for Stretch

Watts in to play Wagner's Wing/HF role as he leads up better, can kick for goal, is a brilliant pass and is quicker than Wags.

I'd like to see Salem in but right now Gus, Vince, Lewis, Hibberd and Jetta are rotating through that HBF role he plays. I don't see any of them getting dropped, though Bernie needs to stop the kick out clangers.

If Viney isn't right Salem comes in for Stretch to play mid/HBF rotating with Vince and Lewis. Or he could rotate with Trac in the forward line.

God I hope we win.

Hope you are right re Watts and Salem.  It is time to settle the team.  And we need to maximise our chances of winning this week.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tyson went out.  He could then have two weeks at Casey and come back for the Elim.

If it isn't Tyson for Viney, I think the most likely would be Harmes.  A bit stiff for him but he isn't consistent enough to be in our best 22 when the rest are up and about.

Crikey, if we make the finals there will be some disappointed players.

Tough call on Tyson. I'd be ok with it but Tyson's game against the Saints was massive and in contested ball finals I'd want him in. It's a nice dilemma to finally have close to a full team to choose from.

I think Watts & Salem both need to come back.

They are class players who we will need to win a final so we need the both up and going.

Outs: Wagner (just don't think he is in the same class as Salem) and Stretch (not quite ready but will be a solid player long term).

Sounds as though Viney will miss again but I think 100% he will be back should we play finals. If (when) that happens I would drop one of Harmes or Brayshaw. Harsh I know but Viney is a heart and soul player.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
