Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He also had a snap toward the city end that was effing pitiful.

He skulks around like he has no confidence in himself.

Fake it, mate! You're in the AFL! Nibbler faked it for two years and now he is doing what he thought he could do all along.

Yep, I know the one now.  I've mixed them up, although that doesn't put Wagner in a good light.

@FlashInThePan, I got the incidents mixed up.  I can't go back and edit my original post.

The set shot was most definitely a lot further out than 30 (went OOF).

I'm assuming you're referring to the snap that went about 30 metres in the air and 10 forward.

The problem with Tyson he his very hit a miss ...

Not sure if that's as much down to Tyson as it's down to how good the opposition mids are. In any case, Tyson was 4th in our B&F last year, and will be around that mark this year and isn't about to be dropped.

Thought Tyson was in our best couple in the first quarter (same as against the saints) he then seems to drop off after that. He's very important for our starts but to become elite he needs to put 4 quarters together. No way he gets dropped though

Got this from a blog of the game:

Wagner marks 45m out on a slight angle but misses the lot. (Q3 20:56

He marked it 45 out, meaning he kicked it from close to 50.  Can't understand how you blokes missed it.

Reckon that may have been Hannan

Garlett has to go. Tackles and pressure numbers way down. No desire to win a contested ball and therefore burning chances left right and centre. Taking 2 chances isn't hard when you burn 10.

Wagner wasn't good, but the wing is a new role for him and a very difficult one given the way we play, stacking numbers around the ball and overusing it. He's not a good tackler or a quick chaser but I think you'll find his work rate was good. Not good enough to stick in the team but still a decent work rate. Looked more comfortable when switched to half back.

Stretch has to stay for his work rate as well. Constantly running to open up the far side of the ground, without it we don't get the kicks coming back in through the corridor. He was hesitant to take the game on (again, game plan) but most of his ball and use and contested stuff wasn't ok. Let him build a bit of form until maybe Viney comes back and we reshuffle the midfield.

Out: Wagner, Garlett
In: Salem, Watts.

Salem half back, Vince to Wags spot on the wing, let him tag Sidebottom. Watts playing a versatile forward role and moving on to the wing.

He was our only midfielder running back for the first quarter. Busting his backside to pressure and then be an outlet option whilst the rest coasted. He set up the saints first quarter as well. Interestingly his kicking has been ok but he's become indecisive by hand which shouldn't be hard to fix.

I've noticed this a lot with Tyson over the last year or so, he starts a game like a house on fire and will have 10 or more touches in the first quarter, 20 by half time and then drops off and rarely ends up with over 30... Maybe it's a fitness issue but aslong as he keeps up the good starts I'm happy

U are correct. One shank from 25 m plus a set shot from 50 which failed to score. Disappointing as I rate him

Lol, drop our leading goalkicker with one game to go when a win assures us finals.

That is as good as " the forward line functions better without Jesse."

I will admit he has been quiet the last few weeks but this is not a time to be making statements.

Watts comes in for Titanic part 2. Did enough for me in shitty conditions for forwards at Casey. He can play Wagner's whatever kinda mid kinda half back half forward whatever the [censored] role.

Interested to know why drop ANB? Apart from a few clangers and down on scoring I thought he was solid. Was down on tackles but his pressure was good.  He is our best user of the ball in the forward half this season along with Trac. Had 5 inside 50's today and has played his role consistently.

Frost has to come in. The dash is badly needed. I think Watts should as well. It'll depend a lot on how Goody feels about what Dunn, Howe and potentially Schade bring to the table. Salem also probably should be slotted in. We badly need that skill.

Wagner out... not doing enough. Stretch looked awful. And I think Hannan is lacking just a little.

I have a strong feeling Bugg has some more to prove this season. And boy oh boy... do we ever need fresh legs. Looked like we were running with lead-legs the whole game.

Wagner and Stretch out for Viney and Salem is pretty simple.

But who comes out for Watts and Frost?

Harmes has had a good month of football and I just can't see them dropping Vince. Yes he mucks it up but his toughness around the contest and ball use is still very good. Generally steps up for the big games too.

Although today was ugly I think the team has good balance.

Perfect summation. When Wagner somehow gets handed the footy 40m out from goal I ask myself "what the [censored] are you doing there?!? Where are you playing?! Is someone trying to take you forward to make us ineffectual?"

Wagner's dilated pupils with the footy forward of centre fill me with a sense that, maybe, those proposed zoning rules aren't bad after all...

Yeah like a sort of choppy and changey kind of role.

Garlett was better today than last week. Let him build form in the seniors when we are one win away from breaking our 11-year finals drought. Dropping him would be ridiculous, especially given you haven't named a replacement for him.

As for Stretch, Watts can take his role as the running link-up player. Stretch is possibly the only player on our list who dislikes physical contact more than Watts but unlike Watts he's hardly damaging with the ball.

Not a chance. I can almost guarantee you ANB is one of the first picked. His delivery going inside 50 is AFL-grade, and in our team that is something we sorely need.

Those calling for Garlett to be dropped do you actually watch the games? He has a guy hanging of him everywhere he goes, the other defenders twice his size are gangbanging him at every opportunity and he draws an extra man most of the times when the ball is on the ground because he is so dangerous

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
