Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Everybody is entitled to their views, it is having them rammed down my throat that I object to, or the whining that if you don't agree you are being PC

H was different, patently not allowed in Australia, so we need to immediately denigrate, it takes balls to tread an individual path in life.

You only have to read some of the topics as the pack senses weakness in a poster and goes for the kill, I am speaking from personal experience of course, but as I regard this forum as nothing but trivial entertainment ( this topic being an exception) it has no impact on me, anonymous keyboard warriors are what the name suggests

I have been here over 40 years and knew from the first week that Australian culture includes a healthy dose of racism, to all races who are not your classic Aussie as described above

He was respected by the other players for his on field achievements, he tended to keep to himself off field, but that occurs at every club as a player matures and develops interests away from the game, family, business etc

The English have a great record colonizing great slabs of Earth ?

that was such a huge success

Every time he opens his mouth he hangs himself. Don't need to know him. Horribly divisive character. If u feel the need to defend this recalcitrant the problem is solely yours.

You could say that.

They bought trade, shipping, medicine, engineering, trains, sewerage and the rule of law not to mention cricket,Gin ,Rum , Beer ,Botany and Mapping.

You could say the general life expectancy of all of us in Australia is greatly improved by it.As well as in most continents, if not all.

Not to mention quality of life.

A divisive topic eh? It's not one way or the other way. Anyone telling us there's too much Political correctness or that the country is racist has no nuance at all and comes across as desperate. It's no wonder these debates become heated, because both sides have incorrect views and both sides feel the need to correct those incorrect views, over and over.

And IMO, Lamumba is both a pretentious wanka and not a pretentious wanka, depending on what time of the day it is. Just like me, and everyone else.

And as for Lamumba being self righteous and holier than thou, hasn't anyone ever been righteous and 'correct' in an argument with a partner? Or been a human in their 20's?

I'd heard the "Chimp" nickname a couple of years ago and actually reckon it was one of the things that H used to drive himself at Collingwood, a feeling of being the righteous but persecuted, gave his some anger, "I'll prove those f#ckers wrong" etc... But then he came to MFC and we didn't persecute him, so he lost his mojo and tried to create some pejudice "the MFC dont have indigenous staff..." but it failed to get him going so he lost form and interest...

All speculation, but its fascinating the way people work, even beyond their own awareness.

During the doco, does H turn slowly to camera, final year's cheque in outstretched hand (the hard-earned fruit of his labours), and offer to make poverty history? That's the Harry I know, selfless, utterly selfless.

The Prince is a conundrum. Much of what he says carries weight (I tend to agree with his overall points on the 'Les' nickname and being annoyed at Eddie re: Goodes) but a lot of his act can be overblown (taking extended time off to mourn the death of Muhammad Ali) or baffling (claiming we were trying to limit the number of games he played so as not to trigger an extra year on his contract but also exposing him to harm re: his concussion).

The nickname 'Chimp' was absolutely apalling if true and it doesn't matter if it were for a week or ten years. Those who are trying to draw equivalence between how their mates in school got called rangas and this might want to look at the historical legacy as to why people of color were compared to monkeys.

I found Adam Goodes' exit from AFL absolutely heartbreaking. I could never, and will never, work out why so many viewed him as a 'despicable [censored]'.

While I concur with some of Herry L's social views, I can understand why he gives people the shits.

This pretty much sums it up for me, at times he has made some excellent points and whichever way you look at it him being called "Chimp" (even if was just a few days) is ridiculous.

Theres no doubt there's a long way to go with making inroads on racism, at the end of the day as someone who has never (and extremely likely will never) experienced racism directed at me it's impossible for me to actually know how it feels. Career wise publicly confronting Eddie over his King Kong comment was a mistake, but with the knowledge that he was called Chimp at times it makes a lot more sense and he felt strongly enough to do it.

All that aside though I don't think he does a good job of creating understanding, it feels like the way he gets his message across can alienate and come from a holier than thou perspective. He's a very different cat, on that I think everyone can agree.

I was excited about him coming to Melbourne but I don't think his heart was ever in it with us, whether that was a disillusionment with the entire football world I don't know. His exit was messy and unprofessional on his part, the way we have managed Brayshaw through his concussions and the way he's come back proves that our medical staff know how to manage these situations. As for his comments on us not having an indigenous former player as a coach, I would welcome the addition of anyone that can impart useful knowledge onto our players whatever their background. It's a fair few years off but I reckon Nev Jetta would be a great defensive coach/mentor when he retires.

"Chimp" clearly not acceptable. "F log" is much more appropriate.

What have the Romans or the English for that matter, supply ever done for us eh, You could say!

Actually it would be interesting to know the life expectancy of our indigenous peoples pre contact. The more you read about their known life styles as it is being reinterpreted in recent times (refer Bruce Pascoe) it seems they may have done as well as anybody up until the recent invention of pharmaceuticals. They had no viral, contagious diseases, no plagues, no bacterial diseases associated people living in close proximity in cities. And they only worked a few hours a day to meet their food requirements because they weren't required to supply arms and time to some hierarchical tyrant and his army. Which was a requirement of European society of the day.

Other than that trade has been good for everyone.

Interesting subject though.

Yes no doubt they would prefer Captain Cook never came .

I daresay many of they convicts would have preferred to stay in England as well.

it was an era of universal exploration that saw much of the world "discovered" .

Unfortunately we cannot change the past.

Many of our ancestors were brought here as slaves of the British Empire .

Aboriginals were used to track convicts and vice-versa.

I would be extremely irate if I had Sydney to myself and then a bunch of  foreigners sailed in and divided up the place.

Surprised? the current president referred to Goodes as King KOng

What a miserable person Lumumba must be. He has left two clubs and the game as a whole with no friends and nothing but hard feelings.

There is nothing more sad and destructive in this world than people who claim offence on behalf of others.

Ultimately he is just an attention seeking egomaniac who suffers from a bad case of relevance deficit disorder.

Not particularly fond of the English myself being of Irish/Scottish/Romany origin, but my ancestors probably helped populate Australia, not by choice of course

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
