Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hard to argue against that. It was a stupid act, but he didn't receive any club support at all.

And after that we went away from paying fierce, competitive footy - look where that got us!  The club needs to support all our players.  We are a team.  I agree that Bugg should have been supported more.

That's far too simplistic.

It's not just the quantity of tackles but also the quality.

It's also the weak attack on the ball, going to ground more often than not in one-on-one situations, half-hearted marking attempts as well as pulling out of contests like he did against Port Adelaide.

Good point Clint, this is something I have noticed a lot lately with Watts, so obvious, almost like his get out of jail card "oh, I slipped." I'll be watching this on his return also, glad someone else has noticed it.

Because the actual links do not come through from The Australian subscription service. Have a look at the other links posted on this that cannot be read! Just trying to be helpful. Some people are very satisfied.

Success is built on a squad, not a "best 22". We need to pick the best team to suit the circumstances.

We need to beat both Brisbane and Collingwood to make finals.  I'm not under estimating Brisbane, but I'm also aware we play the Pies off a 6 day break and we already have tired and injured players.

Out: Viney, Petracca

In: Maynard, Watts

I'd also like to see Salem for Wagner if he's not rubbed out.

Interesting suggestions 55. We need 6 wins for the flag and this is the easiest game on paper, so I can see some merit in resting Viney and Petracca. On the other hand, they are both clearly in our best side and we must win (and percentage might count).

At their best, I see Salem, Watts, Hogan and Frost all in our best side. But I also agree with you that the balance of our side hasn't worked with Gawn, TMac, OMac, Frost, Hogan, Pedersen and Watts all playing. It will be interesting how Goodwin manages things, because Pedersen, TMac and OMac are actually playing the best footy of our talls at the moment. We will have an even bigger dilemma if Weideman can kick a bag this weekend.

For the record though, I would be going with no change this weekend, unless Viney can't get up.

We know Watts can turn a game.

Weideman claim to fame is 4 tackles?

please he is so far behind he cannot hear the band.

AFL standard players should demand selection in the VFL through their efforts. He clearly hasn't done enough yet. Local league players show more intensity. He is a bad example to the players around him. Motlop for Geelong is the same and is up for trade this year according to Brian Cook. Can't be playing finals with an unhealthy dependence on a players that turns up to perform when it suits him.

Just moving on from the Watts v Weideman issue, I think there are a couple of other tricky selections for this week in deciding who replaces Viney in what I suspect at end of day will be the only change, although Wags, Jeffy and this threads whipping boy Weids should all be talked about.

I had Salem as a certain in for Viney, but now that he's ruled out, the door is open for either Stretch or JKH to get one last chance to press their claims before what should hopefully be finals. Both worthy, both can play inside if needed. If I had to tip which one, I'd give Billy a final shot at it because I reckon he's a tad better defensively, but either way I'm happy because they both work their butt off and provide run at the same time. Given Lewy Taylor has hit form, then maybe that's their man. The other player majorly in contention to replace Viney is Maynard, who is more inside than Billy, and who we all seem to have forgotten in our euphoria about the Saints win and the return of Gus. But is Corey realistically a chance of playing finals this season? He's made great progress this year, but Isn't it better to go with someone who will make your finals 22 at this late stage of the season. The only other player I can see missing out for either of the above trio is Wags, who played on a wing last week and with Jordy on the other wing forms possibly the slowest wing tandem in AFL history. But having said that Wags did his role on the weekend, although I just reckon he still needs to work on his kicking penetration. Is Wags ready for finals? Maybe as a defender but, in my view, not as a wingman. The pace goes up a notch in finals. Tough decision on whether he plays this weekend. I suspect he gets another go at Corey's expense.

The other issue is Frosty, who was dropped and then rested in case of an injury. Does that mean he now has to go back and play VFL for another week? We all thought Frosty was mega-stiff to be dropped but now that Brayshaw has clearly stood up as back-seven material and T-Mac returned to defence to provide more intercepts, can we afford Frosty as well? His only chance of getting back in IMO is if we send T-Mac back forward for Weids. Can't see that happening this week, so I suspect it is Magoos for Frosty this week.

The final task is deciding how to fire up Jeffy again - does he go back to the twos for a week? Or do we just hope that he smells September and lifts? Suspect we will go the latter option. In his favour is we don't really have an alternative VFL player knocking down the door - Johnstone does not have the polish yet.

Not sure what to make about the Tracca rest talk. I thought he was so close to kicking five goals on the weekend and his pressure was amazing. Some weeks the ball just doesn't fall for you. This week he'll also get a bit of time in the middle playing Viney's role. He'll be fine.

Finally on Weids, if you spotted what Goody said about him you know he was happy with his form. He lost his way in the third term (the misjudged aerial contest on the wing marked by Carlisle was a howler) and then Goody, with the game on the line, kept him on the bench for the first nine minutes of the final term because Goody knows he's a weak link, but he also knows he's the future and must be developed. Weids just needs to bring the ball to ground like he did in the first term and attack the footy like he did for the entire game. He will play this week and hopefully he kicks a couple of goals and takes a big mark or two in a big win. But even if he does, one of Frost or Watts should replace him for Round 23.

At the end of the day this is an easy selection week.

Out: Viney. In: Stretch.

The following week v the Pies is a nightmare for selectors because it realistically should be our EF side's dress rehearsal.

And all of Salem, Watts, Frost, Bugg and Viney will be pushing to come back in for the Pies game, but clearly, unless we lose the unloseable against the Lions, or cop a few suspensions and injuries, not all will.

I'm pretty sure Watts will come back in at the expense of Weid.

Yes he didn't rip his VFL game apart, but gut feeling is if Goody doesn't put him back in he won't play finals if we make it.

Watts despite his last 3 games helped that finals girth a reality. He played some very good footy b4 his injury. Weid did very little in his previous Dees games.

Interesting. I wonder whether the non-support was strategic to try and get a lighter sentence (on the basis that it's hard to defend foolishness) or to force Bugg to be more accountable for his own actions rather than relying on the club to defend him. I'm not arguing the club was either right or wrong - just wondering why that approach was taken. Perhaps there was no strategic thinking at all, although given we seem to do everything else off-field so well now, I think that's unlikely.

I'm not sure why. He is well liked so it cant be that. It irks me that we didn't band together to support him. Regardless of the crime he is one of ours.

This talk of Viney not playing is bunk. Has been in a moon boot after each game as a precautionary measure and to take load off the foot. Cleaarly he he is still sore but it will take more than soreness to stop him playing.

With Salem suspended maybe Bugg will come back in. I note that Missen said he would play Casey but that I believe was before Salem was suspended.

He can come back for last round if he bangs the door down this week. No point bringing him in if nothing has changed with his performances. Looks like a token demotion

I just do not understand why you wouldn't get Watts straight back in the team after Weideman's sub-par performance. Assuming we make an elimination final, most likely against Port or the Swans at their home grounds, who is more of a potential match winner in such a game? Who would you trust with the ball for a set shot 45 metres out? (please see the Collingwood game if you need convincing)

If Weideman had played a blinder -clunked a few marks and kicked 4 goals, sure. But it's not the time to blood players now. We need our best 22 on the track and with only two games before a break and then a do or die final Watts should be finding his form in the ones not the twos.

He also mentioned Maynard in last weeks presser but he still got dropped. For what ever reason Garletts output has been poor - going to ground, missing easy set shots and turning the ball over. I hope he's not dropped because he is needed but this form can't continue much longer.

Absolute rubbish, he is the leading goalscorer for the Club, averaging just under 2 goals a game, he has had a couple of quiet games, one where the delivery into the forward 50 was deplorable and on Sunday where he kept Geary occupied, still bobbed up to kick a crucial goal

Maynard was mentioned in a completely different context, if he is dropped this week, it will mean the coaches don't think he is playing his role, but I doubt it will happen

Walking along my local beach just watching the whales heading north and a sooty oystercatcher flew through the smoke ring from my cheroot and laughed and squeaked hey bro he said about your next game.

whats up I coughed as I did a double drawback?

viney man he's gone for the season and the big bloke's ankle is bad and he can't jump, they were going to play frosty and Maynard against the saints but were able to get them up one more time, but Viney he's done mate.

i peeled off my clothes threw my roach in the water and swam for the whales on the horizon...

I previously said jack is my favourite player and he is...but if you look at Jack's previous two games and compare to Weid yesterday Weid did way more.  We were watching him closely at the ground and whilst he needs a few kgs he did what Jack hasnt done well for a while... competed in the air, and tackled.  Earn it Jack, I know how valuable you can be !

I must have missed his efforts, I thought he was poor.

IF we can get through with full available squad to past Collingwood, then use the 2 week rest to revitalise Viney and Petracca.

The latter just has to suck it up until the pre-final break.  Viney out if there is any danger he could miss first final.

I don't especially care what we do this week in selections but next week is certainly shaping up as interesting/contentious.

Gus back and performing. Hogan a possible return from injury. Bugg and Salem available after suspension - (and I sincerely think we've missed Bugg). Best 22's in Watts and Frost currently sidelined for form. While Harmes, ANB, Pedo and Milkshake (more of a frappe now in his uncanny cameos to ice games) are all demonstrating their worth and and at the same time we have a few players pushing their case at Casey.

Who's gonna get the squeeze for what could be our most important game in 10 years?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
