Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is today not an improvement on the past fortnight?

I think the giants would of smashed us again today but not many here seem to agree.

Goodwin said at the press conference that he is a happy coach to have Sam Weideman in the forward line. Of course those that are negative on Sam on this thread have more understanding of the game than Goodwin. I don't think!!

Goodwin said at quarter time vs the giants, our 3 goals could be 'gold' at the end of the game. Of course he is going to stick up for a player and so he should.

Weideman is quite frankly not up to it at this stage and we are essentially a man down. Carlisle did what he wanted, luckily for us, he is an average decision maker and kick.

Fortunately Goodwin intends to speak to the umpiring department:  He was his usual tactful self but his intent was very clear “It was a really interesting duel. Billy played a really good game against Max but we will have to go through each of those free kicks and have a look...“That’s a lot in a game of footy so we will have to speak to Hayden about how that rule looks." https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/simon-goodwin-questions-max-gawn-free-kick-count-against-st-kilda/news-story/c58b772ab1fc8d2300372d3f93d98e0f

We have questioned stuff before behind the scenes eg frees against Oliver but this is the first time Goodwin has come out and publicly stated his intent.  I applaud it.

I think that this issue of a vendetta against Max at this time of the year is so overdue. Its not just this issue either. What about in possession not being paid? What about blatant jumper holding not being paid?. What about Oliver being constantly shepherded off the ball? The list just goes on every week, and there are three of these blind, ageless magoos running around, who will probably be walking off today saying we did everything in our power to get St's over the line

I disagree with all who quoted me.

He was worst on by a country mile. Small fwd line set up? Didn't stop Pedo getting a kick!

...and i disagree with you, and that ground will come to suit him better and better as time goes by, and i've seen a few Weidemans' play some pretty good hard footy there over the years.....

After a heavy knock again in the first quarter Brayshaw shook it off and settled down to gain 26 possessions.

What a come back game. Well done son.

Btw I think the helmet may have helped him a little in that collision even though the experts say it doesn't prevent concussion.

Bet it helped with his confidence though.

Also how good was Lewis.

Best four quarter game I have seen him play in the red and blue.

Hopefully he keeps it up.

Yep credit where it's due, I've given him a hard time with his slowness and fumbles but he was great today. And another I give a hard time to, Jones, was good late too when we needed him. Still think he got a lot of cheap handballs and turnovers early but happy to admit they did well.

Theres a topic on the MFC site that the knock helped him.

Hat's off to Goodwin its this match.  He drew some heat by leaving our Watts, Frost and Salem, and at 3/4 time would have been under enormous pressure.

He steadied the troops and they performed well in the last qtr.

I wonder if his next gamble is to rest a couple of the younger players for this week eg Oliver and Petracca.  Both are exhausted.  Look what a rest did for Hannan!

Not sure why Oliver's name continues to get thrown around in this way on DL. The guy is a hardened competitor and our best-performed and most consistent mid. Would the Bulldogs rest the Bont. the Tigers Dusty, the Cats Danger? No.

Can you, or anyone explain to me (and I hope others) what the fk he was being penalised for?

"Blocking" or "shepherding" in the ruck? I have no understanding of that rule. He gets pinged for it often but he ha his eyes for the ball. Makes zero sense to me.

Apparently there is a ruck rule that states you can't fend off with an extended straight arm. The AFL in their wisdom chose to make this the one week it's ever been enforced.

Spot on deever!

Pedo has about 10% of Watt's ability

Watt's has about 10% of Pedo's  determination/heart.

Pedersen has been rubbish his last handful of AFL games and got dropped in the meantime. But most fans don't see much other than the tall blonde bloke...

I'm glad he is back in some form, but I don't see the need to put down Watts just to prop up Pedersen. Especially when it is arguably BS.

That third quarter though was bad. We look cooked at this time of year. Hopefully fitness staff can do something about it this week.

I agree. Just finished watching the replay again. We lookED really spent in the last half. Reminds me of the last few games of last year. I know this is a symptom of young sides but we won't give a peeps in the finals if we can't get our mid season spark back. Hopefully we will make the finals. The bye before it will do us a huge amount of good IMHO.

What's there to positive about, I mean we are only on the verge of our first finals series in 11 years, have a great coach and one of the most talented lists.

And even if you put all that aside... And just focus on game day and what it means going forward... you still have to work hard to be glum... How many sides in the comp would love to have 22 that showed the effort we did today. There's only a few that wouldn't be envious of how hard we go at it based off this weekend. We're talking Swans, GWS, Cats... The rest see guys like Jetta, Jordie, Hibberd, Pedo... they're not supposed to be stars...  and especially Braysh who was flat out inspirational... and they drool at the effort level they bring.

I wish you could just have a special button next to the "like" button that is something along the lines of "you don't get to have everything your way all the time. This is football." Yes the team will have lapses. Some mistakes will be made. Drawing season-ending conclusions because Jordie flubbed a handball is just daft.

The squad played better for more of the game than the opposition. The Saints are a decent team and have enough talent to threaten us and we smashed them. Sometimes it really can be that simple.

Some observations from yesterday.  Sitting on the second level outside the Long Room I could not get over the noise generated by the Dee's supporters. Was long and strong all day. Just about the biggest cheer of the day was when we finally received a free kick early in the final quarter.

The club MUST challenge the umpiring dept on many of the decision that went against us today. What are we doing that wrong that 17 other teams are not getting pinged for. Really felt for big Maxy who took some of the decisions really hard. The anger/frustrations on his face were there for all to see..

Did anyone else noticed just how high the ball was being thrown in? The highest I think I have ever seen. Others around me made the same comment.

Really proud of the boys today and Angus you really stood out. So accurate with his passing.

Dare to dream Melbourne, dare to dream.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
