I agree with what you say above. I'll wait to see how consistently good he becomes , as may well many others.

I don't see it as an out and out failure if we don't play finals - I'd love too but it's not the end of the world.

A failed season is one where you don't know the answer to 2 questions: (1) have we improved and (2) are we closer to a premiership.

It might be said that we have to play finals to be closer to a premiership, but I don't think that's the case. If we get to finals and put in a performance like Richmond did against Port in 2014, or the Eagles against the Dogs last year then where does that get you? Both of those teams stayed about the same the year after but hadn't improved. The Eagles are getting smashed right now because of their list and Richmond nearly sacked Hardwick, didn't make the finals last year and have made major changes to personnel and their game plan before improving (so making finals in 2014/15 was nearly irrelevant for them).

When we make finals I want us playing to win, not just make up numbers. To that end I think our game style (when going at close to 100%) has the capability of winning a flag, while we still might be a year or 2 away from doing that consistently enough to get there, I see that as proof we are closer to a premiership.

At 10 wins and 7 losses with only 1 game of the 5 against a top 8 side.  To not make finals should be seen as a failure.

Horrid fixture has not helped in 2017. Until we consistently hit AFL acceptable crowd levels we face an uphill battle. Are we still maturing as a club in the modern day game? Many challenges still to face.

Unfortunately we have been failing so often since '64' it's become regular fair.

Nothing's changed.  Time to churn and burn the bottom 6 to 8 players and go again.

And FCS Goody.....dump that Bulltish 8 man defense, train the boys to play man on man for longer periods more effectively, stick more tackles and buy in a big clunking goal kicking power forward ASAP.

If we don't fix these issues 2018 will see a repeat of this year, or worse!!

It's a tough one.  I'm totally gutted right now.  This is a different feeling - much different to the feeling I had from the smashings given out by Geelong and Essendon all those years ago.  I dislike this feeling right now, much more than those other ones.

No finals is a big, black mark on our season and right now we'll all be justifiably angry and upset about how our season has finished.  We [censored] the bed with our destiny in our hands and it's now up to the playing group to draw a line in the sand and ensure that this simply doesn't happen again.  Our list is young enough to learn and improve from it.

On the flip side, we won more games than last year and saw some genuine improvement in our players.  We showed an improved resiliency in the middle of the season when everything was against us, and funnily enough that was when we played our best footy.  Most thought we would improve further once we got our stars back, yet we stagnated terribly.

Suck it up Wise. Some of us could see it coming, yet the happy clappers didnt.
