Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would love to see either Max or Clarry win it but I think Patrick Cripps will be very hard to beat.

Yeah he’ll [censored] it in with 6 votes from 2 wins...

Oliver has already become a much greater player than I ever thought he could be.  He’ll be the best player in the league sooner rather than later.

Brownlows though are fickle things and I’d rather have 3-4 players capable of winning one like Brisbane (Voss, Akermanis, Black) West Coast (Cousins, Judd, Kerr, Cox) than one standout player like Judd at Carlton or Fyfe at Freo.

If you’d like some Clarrie you can get $67 for the Brownlow. Interestingly, Jesse also at $67 for the Brownlow, seems a bit odd though.

I backed Clarrie at $101 to 1 two months ago, his last 6 weeks would have to have him in the mix.

Will be disapointing but not surprising if Mitchell wins it. he is a very good player but not an out and out star like previous winners (Fyfe/Danger,/Dusty) or like Gawn/oliver.  he gets it a lot due to a lack of quality inside mids at hawthorn and imo does not influence games to the extent the others I mention do.

itll just show that the umpires notice the amount of touches rather than the impact over a game

Commentators have been saying it'll be amazing if Mitchell doesn't win it... I just don't see it. He pads out his numbers with a heap of cheap handballs out the back....

Which is obviously why he is 3rd favourite with betting agencies across the country tail light.

What’s also obvious is betting agencies know how to make money.

Shout out to crown bet who stopped taking my bets after I loaded up on Oliver at 50-1 last year for most Brownlow votes of any Melbourne player.

Who do we think will be the most likely winner of the Brownlow from our current list. I'll start the ball rolling:

3. Oliver

2. Petracca

1. Viney

honourable mentions

Gawn - (I know unusual for a ruckman to win recently, but there was Stynes, Moore, Dempsey).

Tyson (if he improves his kicking)

Hibberd

TMac

(left field choice) Brayshaw - yes he is that good folks when he is fit

Gawny up to 21 votes...  Oliver on 18.

Would be nice if the umps recognized ruckmen for once...   Gawn and Grundy could duke it out for the medal.

Dusty will be in the mix, just because it's likely to be a low vote winner this year, as opposed to the last few years where players have romped away. I wouldn't be surprised if Maxy polls in more games than the AFL.com count has, just think he'll get a few 1 or 2 votes in his reasonable games and is a good chance to also get those 3 vote games.

One thing Max has going for him, asides from being an exceptional footballer, is that everything he does on the field in eye-catching.  His massive frame, the beard, the pack marks, chases, tackles all catch the eye in the same way Crawford, Woewodin and Akermains' peroxided hair did.

This is true. Just pops up for attention grabbing mark in back line. Crazy-accurate kick through traffic to start a chain (what I saw this week), very able below knees.

Wouldn't surprise me if 2018 is The Year of the Max but then Mitchell.

If every player was asked who they’d prefer in their team do you think they’d pick Gawn or Tom Mitchell?

2018 Brownlow winner is ........ joint winners Max Gawn and Clayton Oliver

History making - first time a shared Brownlow between two players from the one club !!!!

and there is the problem.......they will steal points off each other

cripps must be looking good though with only 2 wins this will count against as winning teams naturally score the top votes

Max and Clarrie hopefully will be top 5 in the Brownlow count. It now seems max was clearly injured there for a few weeks considering his game on Sunday. Those weeks may have cost him a few votes and it would be unusual for a ruckman to do it, but if its a fair count he still should be able to win.  Here is one the latest markets

Tom Mitchell
Patrick Dangerfield
Dustin Martin
Patrick Cripps
Clayton Oliver
Max Gawn
Brodie Grundy
Dayne Beams
Dyson Heppell

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
