Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Can anyone tell me what maynards disposal is like? Does he use it well? Pace? Get the feeling he will debut soon and would like to get an idea of what to expect.

I didn't see today's game, but the TV game against Box Hill I watched closely. Sample of one.

To me Maynard was great in close due to his size and aggression. He's very strongly built, not quite Petracca size but not far off, and while not Viney aggressive certainly no shrinking violet.

His kicking however was terrible. Dribblers and shanks more often than good ones. So I don't mean Harmes or ANB style OK off the boot but a poor decision or spin nicely but miss the target, I mean ones that I'd be disappointed if I did that kick.

So unless he had an off day for his kicking, which he well may have, I think he's got the physical and attitudal attributes but potentially not the foot skills to make it. I hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps with Goodwin's handball happy game plan a few with poorer foot skills can secure a spot but I would've thought when Jones, Viney and Tyson were all out that would've been the time it made sense, less so when they are all back in from next week.

This is the knock on his brother as well.

Did a little ruck work early in the season but none since King/Spencer has been back, always got killed.

Depends on the team they play, but he does a bit of both staying at home and roaming up the ground, hard to pick between the two

Hey Drunkn167 did Joel Smith play? Haven't seen him mentioned anywhere.

His brother is a booming kick, not always accurate but it's more decision making with his brother.  Takes some atrocious options, case in point with about 5 mins to go yesterday when he broke beautifully from the back pocket and then kicked to the wrong option.

Kicking and game sense will be the concern, but no doubt he's got the ball winning, aggression and athleticism to be a very good AFL stoppage player. I think the issue with giving him a debut a few weeks ago was that he wasn't quite at his best after missing a couple of weeks with concussion a month or so before that. He seems to have gone to another level in the last few weeks if the match reports are any guide.

I'm not sure there's much point in giving him a debut if he's to play half forward. That won't suit him. But if he's thrown the challenge of going on ball I think he's worth a go. The biggest question might be whether he's got the tank to play AFL midfield especially given Oliver, Petracca etc aren't great runners either, same with an underdone Viney who surely couldn't be covering the same km's as at full fitness.

Great to see Dion make some significant progress this year.  He is built for a young fella, and quick.  From reports it sounds like his effort and tackling is great and now he is starting to kick a goal or two.  We need a small pressure fwd so it will be great to see how he goes over the preseason

With Jones and Vince back, you'd think Maynard is little chance.

How did Pedo go or did he not play?  selection will be interesting this week for sure

BURGERS MINCED by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons struggled for most of the day to shake off a resolute Coburg outfit on a bleak day at Casey Fields in what could best be described as a scrappy encounter.

The Demons looked to be the better side in the opening quarter but they simply could not find the goals and, as often happens in these circumstances, it was the Lions who broke through for their first score - a goal at the 25 minute mark of the term and they went to a three point lead at quarter time.

Casey looked slow and lethargic entering the second term and they conceded two goals to go to a 14 point deficit before Cam Pedersen scored their first goal midway through the quarter. The home team slowly fought back with goals to Aloysio Ferreira and a late one to Mitch King on half time to put them back in front.

The slog continued in the second half with first Casey then Coburg holding the ascendancy until another late goal gave the home side the lead. After that it all turned around with Casey playing sensational football to boot seven of the eight final quarter goals. They dominated the end game and by the time it was over they had doubled  the Lions' score.

The Lions were courageous and bold but  the Demons were fitter and faster and had the dominant tall forward on the ground, namely Sam Weideman who thrust his name before the faces of the Melbourne selectors who are searching for a replacement for the injured Jesse Hogan. Best of the on ballers was recently uplifted rookie Corey Maynard while Angus Brayshaw is not putting a foot wrong after returning from his concussion issues.

The Demons are seventh on the ladder and must win against Sandringham this Sunday to keep the premiership dream alive.

I was wondering if Billy had played as I'd hardly seen him mentioned.  Looks like from the stats at least he had a reasonable game.  13 Tackles would indicate that his work rate at least was there.

Weideman zero tackles?

After being named as an emergency last week, surely Maynard has bashed the door down? Even with Jones and Vince coming back in. 13 tackles for Stretch is impressive as well, he must be getting closer. What was the knock on him, defensive pressure or clearances? It's a shame those stats don't mention clearances.

I don't think he can be selected at senior level until he fixes this part of his game. Clearly he's not going to get 21 possessions and 8 marks at AFL level, so he needs to show that he can contribute in other ways.

Ben Kennedy 8 possessions? I'd be paying out his contract at year end.

Weideman is a key forward - his main mode of contest should be aerially. It's pretty hard to lay a tackle when you're 4 feet in the air flying for the ball.

That's not to say he's exempt from tackling or there's not room for improvement, just that I'd never expect huge numbers. 2 a game would put him up there with the likes of Tex Walker.

I seem to remember a game earlier in the year with the firsts where his main contribution was tackling and forward pressure

Pedo not in form, you'd have to bring the Weid in. not exactly knocking the door down by 3.3 and 21 touches is a good day out and we dont need a 2nd ruck with T Mac up there so less reason for Pedo

I'll take the 6 tackles and pressure of Pederson.

Weideman was a liability late last season and has not earned the right to get back in. It's great that he is taking the marks at VFL but I doubt this will translate to the AFL at this stage of his career. Considering he has poor agility and pressure (1 game aside), I hope we don't take the risk.

Edit: I'd be just as happy to go in small and play with an extra runner, but it really is a struggle to find another player worthy of a game.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
