Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rance is playing the wrong sport: he'd not be out of place in a soccer team where staging and diving and collapsing are part of the furniture.

Or, maybe he should be on stage where he can get applause for his 'acting' abilities.

Worst of all, we have the clown Gill talking big about cleaning up the AFL and sniping thugs like Rance are allowed to get away with what he did to Steve Johnson.  Admittedly, Johnson 'collapsed' as well but how and why should that be allowed to part of the game?????

The way every commentator gushes over me sends me over the edge. I concede he a a decent defender and great at leaving his man to intercept, but one on one he is average.

Still got smashed by Hogan in Hogan's first year.

One of my most despised players in the AFL.

He takes cheap shots off the ball, particularly while his opponent's back is turned, and as stated above he stages at every given opportunity. The problem is he's relatively good at staging, unlike the many who have got caught.

As Danny Green would say "he's not even a K9".

I take the contrary view. Unless there is solid evidence that no contact is made,  how can you judge how it impacts a person. I have been tapped when not really braced, prepared or expecting it and gone down from what was minimal impact. I don't believe Oliver intentionally went down from his chin tap and I don't think we can judge the reaction on someone who cops a whack no matter how incidental it looks. Rance copped a smack in the chops - why is the victim being blamed. The goose here is Toby Greene.

He somehow has this reputation of being a "good bloke" when he's actually a dirty sniping [censored]. Doesn't mind exaggerating a bit of contact either, will probably wind up on Home & Away after he retires from football. Greene is a fool for taking the bait and belting him though, even if he did exaggerate the contact (again).

I posted the following in this weeks Post-game thread regarding Rance.
"Rance is one the dirtiest and overrated players of the past 20 years. He constantly whacks opponents in the guts, clobbers them over the back of the head and pretends he is going for the ball and eye gouges opponents. In the Tigers game against the Bulldogs earlier this year he eye gouged two opponents and nearly concussed one by belting him over the back of the head when he couldn't contest an aerial ball. Nothing came of it though. He's a protected species by the AFL though due to his religious beliefs and media work.

And how about when he king hit Watts last year because he was getting beaten by every opponent he played on and cracked the sads! And in a week where someone had died from it and it got heaps of media attention. The AFL managed to get that swept under the rug quickly with his suspension and no one in the media ever mentions it, just what a star and amazing player he is etc etc *fap fap fap*

When he gets made to play one on one against an opponent, he more often than not loses, even when they're considerably smaller than him. When he's allowed to roam around with no opponent, no pressure and cut off high balls as a freebie, the media jerk themselves stupid likes he's the second coming of Christ. It's pathetic. He's one of the most overrated and dirty players in my lifetime and it disgusts me that he is so adored."

If I looked like Rance I would just say "Not the face Please Toby"

A few punches could only improve Greenes face.

I enjoyed watching Viney put Rance down with one arm last year -it evened up Rances limp wristed handbaggery.

I can't see anyone trying to mess with Viney- it would be a dumb move.

Good player, but I'll never forgive him for belting Watts in the back of the head while he was face down on the ground. His staging, sniping and 'philosophical' brilliance... the media froth over him.

Sure, I agree he was hit and his reaction (this time) may have been appropriate.  But he has history.

But what really pi55e5 me off about him is his recurrent sneaky sniping: quite apart from the serious assault on Watts last year, which the AFL didn't punish half severely enough*, he also regularly jabs opponents in the guts, something that the hypocritical folk at AFL HQ, lead by their weak kneed CEO, said they would address but haven't.  [I guess they are waiting for someone in red and blue like Lewis or Vince to do it - then watch the clampdown].

*I have said it before and will say it again, elbows to the back of the head can and do result in extremely serious injury, or worse.  It would be truly tragic if they were to wait for a "Phil Hughes moment" before they really clamped down on this low act.  But they lack the leadership to do so.  Pity.

He has had some bad moments, but I would take him at the Dees in an instant. I hated Jordan Lewis with his bullying and bravado - until he came over to us. Now I love him! Rance is a bloody good footballer.

Rance seemed to put some mayo on the Greene hit. But I reckon he should go for a week for starting it off with the hit on Johnson. Johnson appeared unhurt but to me that is not the point. If you start that sort of stuff, you're gone.  Do that a few times and soon there will be no punches thrown at all.

All the incidents you point out about Rance are on the money. However the issue is not whether Rance deserves to cop a whack because he serially hands out the same to others but whether he was staging or not.

I don't like the way he gives the sly ones either and the one to Watts in the back of the head was shameful.

I don't get this at all. You push and shove ( and the incident with Johnson was an open hand shove) and you want Rance suspended ? Or are you are saying that because Rance started by pushed Johnson over, Greene should be able to punch Rance in the chin ?

How about players just don't punch ? Isn't that simpler ? Johnson had been awarded the free, with a shot on goal, which was appropriate. Greene got the free kick reversed and reported for punching Rance on the chin.

And you want Rance dealt with ? hmmmm

He nailed Watts in the back of the head when Watts was on the ground face down. That could have caused some serious damage yet Richmond and the media in the week that followed said it was out of character and everyone believed it and moved on, except us.

This season, our acts are classed as undisciplined and thuggish.

I can't stand Rance and I absolutely loved it when Viney flipped him on his backside after going in to bat for Wattsy.

Don't kid yourselves, Rance is a gun.  And IMO most defenders are a little dirty and exploit contact for their benefit - given the amount of free's that get paid against them for marginal contact it's natural to try and even up the ledger every now and then.

Steady on, nut. Let me explain in more detail, and I think you will find we are not too far apart on this. What Greene did was wrong, no matter what Rance did to Johnson. Greene deserves to be suspended, IMHO, and two weeks seems about right. Under no circumstances should anyone be allowed to punch anyone, especially on the football field.

My point was that Rance's action towards Johnson was not in play, entirely unnecessary and what started the whole thing. Like dieter (and it sounds like, you as well) I think there is no place for punching at all. But I think we also need to look at what starts incidents like this. I haven't seen the game, only the footage of the incident on the AFL web site, but I think Rance has to carry some blame. Greene's action was worse, of course, but actions like Rance's also need to be stamped out of the game. Knocking another player over, open hand or not, when the ball is out of play is not on.

If it helps, were I the AFL dictator, I would say something like anyone throwing a punch gets at least one week, if it connects you get at least two, and punches that cause harm to another play get at least three or four weeks. Apply that consistently and without any crap about jumper punches or other such rubbish and the problem will be fixed very quickly.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
