speaking of spoiling, hoges spoiled one late on the members side wing, blindly, and perfectly.  it was a crucial spoil. had he not pulled it off the power were out the back and away.  whilst im at it.  anyone who has bagged watts today and hogan in the last couple of weeks do not understand sport or athletes or have no idea.  The bottom of the barrel when it comes to football supporter intelligence.

ANB has become an important link in the chain. A number of our goals were caused directly from his efforts and ball use, including two pinpoint passes - one to Petracca on his own and then to Garlett on the lead. He is a development success story in my opinion.

Until recently I thought the half forward flank was where second string midfielders went to die, but ANB, Harmes and Melksham have really started to deliver in those roles.

A big factor in Port's wins has been Robbie Gray.  He has averaged 2.4 goals per game.  And he has had some big hauls of 4+ goals in some games.

His tally yesterday:  0 goals, 0 points!!!  He did play on the ball for some of the game.  But him going scoreless was huge for us. 

He is Port's danger player and the difference between winning and losing.

Our defence, especially Jetta and Hibberd did a superb job of keeping him on a leash when he was down there.

I am not a Tyson hater but maybe we should go and look at his other 10 kicks. His disposal yesterday in most part was deplorable but he won the ball well and attacked the contest with vigour. His disposal was very similar his first couple of games after missing early in the year. Another one better for the run.

My main indicator this year is what team is last to get up from a pack. It's usually us (apart from the last few games for obvious reasons). And regardless of stats it's in invariably Jack Viney - seriously that guy has been a culture changer the moment he walked into the club! Our attack on the ball this year has been outstanding. I'm very proud to be a supporter when they give it a crack. I think this is what the great "Checker" Hughes meant by "playing like demons."

Good luck trying to convince people otherwise.

An ability to kill a contest in the air is something all defenders should have as their number one attribute. 

Oscar's first attempt at a spoil on Dixon within the first couple of minutes of the game was literally unbelievable. King was so confused with what he was doing. 

We've simply got to land Lever.

You quickly realise a players worth when they are not playing. Tyson is so important!! He is a ball magnet and just needs to polish up his skills. There are no technical problems - watching before the game he nails everything. It's just a matter of a bit more experience and confidence. I think he has the ability to be one of the leagues elite.

We must simply land lever??? Or what? We have the nucleus of a premiership side without needing lever. Tom Mcdonald will go back next year and o mac can get the 2nd/3rd best defenders as he should.

Kinda like highlighting a couple of Oscar's mistakes in an otherwise solid game. 

 

It's not just Tyson's kicking that is the problem. It's kicking, handballing and decision making. I can handle mistakes under pressure. It's when he just butchers it under no pressure. Or taking too long, creating unnecessary pressure and then [censored] up. How do you reckon that's gunna go in the heat of a final. 

You can highlight the the good things he did yesterday and gloss over the bad because we won. Making that many mistakes in a close game, we will not win. 

No doubt he has tools and can play, but how long are we going to be saying "if he can just..."

Its almost like calling out one missed defensive spoil to highlight a players deficiency isn't it?

How many contests did O-Mac lose for the rest of the game? Needs to fix where he lands his spoil (please not central) but rarely beaten in the air recently. Big challenge for him against Brown or Waite next week but a lot better than given credit.

It's not just contests. It's many areas for his game, which is the main worry.

I'll do a report of the first half and get back to you.

It's not so much the Tyson haters, but it's the fact that of his first 7-8 disposals, only a couple hit the target... that was the feeling i got at the game, and while watching the replay the commentators made a point of it too

EDIT: I'm not saying he's terrible and needs to be dropped, there's a lot he does well for the team, but there are a lot of turnover possessions he has.

Im glad your negativity is confined to forums and that you will never have any involvement in the club.

go have a look at what tyson actually did yesterday. 

Yes, he did have 7 turnovers however made up for it with 7 intercept possessions. 12 massive contested possessions. 6 score involvements and 425 meters gained.

Just returned from swanning around Krabi night market very proudly in my demons polo. What a game, what a start and we played some of the toughest football that I can recall for a very long time, to hold them scoreless for 13 minutes when they started their run was just sheer will power and guts and determination. We were feeling the cold early on but didn't seem to notice it as the game wore on, Also great to see Wona and Liam walking the boundary at half time with Robbo. Could quite easily been 8 goals up at half time. I thought that the umpiring was quite bewildering at times Ump No.1 should go back to the Bush where he belongs!!

I watched Trenners pretty closely today from level 2 behind the goals. Most of the above are spot on but ill add some thoughts:

- he only played 90 minutes (of the >120 minutes), about the same as Mellsham and Salem, with JKH our lowest at 82.

-he effectively played on the left back pocket on Sam Grey for 90% of his time on ground. Picked up Boak a couple of times.

- Acted as a structural general, pointing and setting players and positions constantly

- Didn't attack much: only left his place in the zone when his direct opponent ran into the contest. This happened less info the second half. 

- Mostly got possessions linking across half back either when we switched our as a safe option.  Got involved a couple of times when he was in the play. 

- I saw him get beaten by his specific man twice.  Once by Grey up the field on the HFF (the ball went out of centre bounce, Grey got their first, and got an inside 50 that resulted in a goal) and once during a run on play by Boak I think, as a chain of possessions caught our structure out

- He obviously isnt fast. That didn't matter when our structure was working.  He wasn't going to chase guys down but was fine in general play.

 

 

 

My thoughts are he offers more than many.  I think there is a role for him when Vince and Lewis decline but unsure where he sits in the coaches eyes behind Wagner and Smith in the longer term. Does Melksham fit into this group too or is he a forward now? Trenners didn't play mid, and he didn't attack much, so it's clear to me what his role is at the moment. Just wait and see if they think he is handy depth. 

I also watched Trenners closely from the top deck, which is good for seeing running patterns  etc.  I agree with Deanox observations especially his role as a 'structural general', he was very assertive at this and considering Port didn't kick a goal till close to half time you would have to say he was very effective.  Seemed to slot in much better than Smith or Wagner.

I think Trengove compliments Hunt at half back. We all love Hunt's dash but often he gets himself in a tight spot and kicks it to the opposition.  Trenners provides a get out option, doesn't panic and almost every time hit a target.  This was a big improvement to last week and Trenners really contributed to it.

20kgs??? Weideman already weighs 96kg. Not sure how much more than 100 he needs to be. He will need to start playing games at CHF next year after another solid pre season. No room for t mac in the forward line if this happens
