Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I watched Trenners pretty closely today from level 2 behind the goals. Most of the above are spot on but ill add some thoughts:

- he only played 90 minutes (of the >120 minutes), about the same as Mellsham and Salem, with JKH our lowest at 82.

-he effectively played on the left back pocket on Sam Grey for 90% of his time on ground. Picked up Boak a couple of times.

- Acted as a structural general, pointing and setting players and positions constantly

- Didn't attack much: only left his place in the zone when his direct opponent ran into the contest. This happened less info the second half.

- Mostly got possessions linking across half back either when we switched our as a safe option.  Got involved a couple of times when he was in the play.

- I saw him get beaten by his specific man twice.  Once by Grey up the field on the HFF (the ball went out of centre bounce, Grey got their first, and got an inside 50 that resulted in a goal) and once during a run on play by Boak I think, as a chain of possessions caught our structure out

- He obviously isnt fast. That didn't matter when our structure was working.  He wasn't going to chase guys down but was fine in general play.

My thoughts are he offers more than many.  I think there is a role for him when Vince and Lewis decline but unsure where he sits in the coaches eyes behind Wagner and Smith in the longer term. Does Melksham fit into this group too or is he a forward now? Trenners didn't play mid, and he didn't attack much, so it's clear to me what his role is at the moment. Just wait and see if they think he is handy depth.

Not completely sure what you are getting at here Dean, but Milkshake has definitely stamped his mark in our best 22 in my book.  A bit slow to start (who wouldn't be after 18 months away from footy), but has consistently been in our best performers over the last month when we really needed players to stand up.  Another pretty good effort today.

That, my fellow Demons, was a finals type game.

Said it in one. (And some other gubbins)

That wouldn't have looked out of place in a final. We earned the win against what I think is a top 4 side. We did it with brilliance and guts. Couldn't be happier. I place it comfortably in 3rd place in terms of wins this year. Behind Crows and Eagles.

What a year. What a great year. Other years we will be lumbered with some serious expectation. Not this year. This year is already qualified as "that year when" we discovered Tracca, Oliver and others.

Haven't loved footy this much since 2002 when Neita was running around.

Jeez, I came on here to read some positive comments about a great win setting us up for a good run at finals , not a Watts bash-fest circa 2012.

Fair dinkum.

Jack wasn't much chop today... but seriously I don't really care.

I think Jacks 100th game was probably marked by the question of would he make it as a player.  Since then, I thinkhe has proved the doubters well and truly wrong.

Fast forward a fee years to Jack's 150th and I think it's more about will the team make it.  Let's hope that question is settled in the afirmative in the years ahead as well.  Certainly looking ok at present.

Blaming The Darwin trip is rubbish always has been. Good sides win and poor ones don't.

Disagree. The Crows and us both tired in the last as the commentators said. History shows sides returning from Darwin struggle to run out their next game.

Both won against good teams Mr Leg.

if you are good you win it is that simple blaming Darwin is just an excuse by those who do not want to sell a game.

I think he was referring to the back flank position. Is trengove competing against Wagner and smith to take over from Vince or is melkshake going to be pushed Back for his foot skills

Agree entirely that Melksham has a spot.

I meant is Jack competing against him? Melksham was a HBF but has moved forward recently. Will her stay forward or go back?

Jack is playing HBF. Long term, Jack is competing against Smith and Wagner, is he behind Melksham too?

I was at the game and saw Jack Watts grab at his groin and was limping late in the second quarter- perhaps that explains his second half- he did one great smother - I think in the last quarter

Last night, last week , today, tomorrow it's all rubbish. God knows how anyone plays the game when it's roulette out there..fmd !!

Based on the above comments and a few other posts I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the umpires had a shocker. So many frees missed (mostly to us of course ;))

Correct. Both the Crows and us beat top 4 teams after playing in Darwin.

As for us tiring, Port were always going to come at us but after they kicked a couple at the start of the last we tied the game down and stoped their run and then got on top again at the very end.

Agree with all this.

Just watching the game now (at half time) and agree Watts has had better days! He got in some good spots but appeared unsure of his body I reckon. He'll come good.

I thought some of the earlier comments on this thread were a bit OTT, is all.

What has been good with playing guys to try and get them back into form - Gawn Hogan and today Jack Watts is that they have all held their own . Not being beaten by an opponent running off them causing havoc at the same time not finishing marks (  game touch ) or dominating like they can .

They have all worked at it and yes rusty to begin with but have improved or will to where we need them to be .

I watched the 2nd quarter again just now and Watts was running with discomfort , hoping he hasnt tweaked it again.

Yes, hope they have the same patience with Trenners. I thought he was serviceable today. Can only improve for the run - certainly hard at it, and plays his role very well...

It's how poor form manifests itself for Jack.  His intensity goes down and his attack drops.  When Hogan is out of form, he drops marks, shanks kicks and sulks.  Jack Viney when out of form tries to break a tackle every time he gets the ball.  An out of form Nathan Jones gets all his kicks from running around behind other players and hoofing it forward. Lesser players just don't get near the ball when out of form.  All players react and respond differently.

Watts looked out of touch today, but I don't consider it any more contemptible than any other player who has been out of the game and takes a while to get in the groove.  I think your criticism is excessive and unwarranted.

Said it before and I'll say it again. There needs to be a "post of the week" thread, with links so you can see context. Finally it happens to a mod, so maybe something will be done. lol

Yeah. I reckon it was one of those where certain movements, like jumping or sideways movement aren't doable, so you're forced to run in straight lines all day and hope the ball is delivered on a dime.

He wasn't good, injury aside... but he's more than earned a bad game or two. Hogan took 3 weeks to find form, and he's not carrying an injury (aside from post surgery + emotional scars).

Getting back to the thread. Not too many people are talking about how high they rate Port. I rate them SUPER high. They're my pick for top 4 (probably 4th), and have been all year.

There is NOTHING to be angry, sad, or disappointed about from this week. But some posters will insist on being glass half empty.

At the end of the game I was hanging [censored] on a power supporter and after i had finished having a good laugh at him we spoke about the umps and even he said they got the better of the umps decisions.

It really is pathetic cause most of the wrong decisions are so bloody obvious which makes it even more infuriating.

The dees should talk and demand the afl/umps association pull their finger out.

Haven't seen the gameday thread and just saw it briefly alluded to above but WTF was Dixon doing sledging Jetta when he took him over the boundary line?  (2ndQ maybe)

Could he pick a less deserving person to sledge? Jetta was absolutely magnificent again!

Hope Jetta told him to come back to him when he's an AA player not a hack with a hipster beard who can't kick.

Nicolls did an excellent job trying to ruin the game and making me lose my voice.

Hibberd, Jetta, Viney all immense. Tyson good, Oliver good, Hannan good, Oscar is ridiculously improved and can't believe I'm saying it, Melksham is coming good.

It was a very good win. We played on our terms for a half and opened an unbeatable lead. They amped up the pressure, as good teams do, but we didn't relent. We went hard all day and held off for an excellent win.

Hogan seems to be getting better and better and Gawn was excellent before he got injured. He was back in form.

A massive win for the club and another step forward with a win at our 2017 hoodoo ground.

Had bad case of MFCSS until Melksham shut the door. Still adjusting to our arrival.

With the return of 1/4 of our best 22, the only team that I fear stopping us are Sydney.

Love this club, hate bald umpires.

I thought Oscar McDonald was one of our worst today. WTF was he doing spoiling the ball into the corridor? It's like he never defended before in his life.

Solid win under the circumstances. A few players off the pace returning from injuries, and Gawn hampered for the second half, but we still ground it out.

People look at the forward line and salivate with the potential there, but the back half isn't looking too shabby either.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
