Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Nothing much worked tonight but I thought our offensive plays were particularly erratic and easily defended by the Crows.

I reckon Gawn put it down the throats of more Crows players than our boys and they worked it out of congestion so efficiently whereas we just hand balled the absolute bejesus out of it until it was turned over.

Hogan looked more likely in the second half but gee whiz I hope he finds form next week. Otherwise put Petracca back at FF.

Not surprised.

We can beat Carlton with that midfield. We aren't beating the Crows.

With Dom and two of the Jacks potentially back, we will be in better shape. Hopefully Salo will be back soon but from memory he has three weeks out still.

The best we could do after all those injuries is win what we could and hope to stem the bleeding against the better teams. I think we have done that.

Too many passengers dropping marks and fumbling the ball. They were so much cleaner, particularly around the stoppages. We couldn't keep our feet and went to ground in around 75% of contests.

We didn't run and I lost count of the times we bombed it to our fwd line with 1 on 3. Dumb football.

OMac was again a liability, He simply has no urgency or hunger to get to the ball or kill it. Gets outbodied way too easily.

Kent was useless and won't be missed. Trade bait.

Frost had a mare, Pederson did very little, Max was outclassed again, Bernie and Lewis have dropped way off the pace, Harmes was unsighted, Hogan is fast becoming very frustrating and Garlett is back to his old ways of getting too tricky and forgetting fundamental footy.

ANB was poor, Smith tried but was very fumbly and Hannan showed glimpses.

A dirty night and surprised we we even close at 3/4 time.

Highlight ofthe might was Jayden's 65m barrel for a goal after the 3/4 time siren. Thought that would be the catalyst for a revival.

We could have stolen this one but in the end we copped a percentage pasting.

I'm going to bed.

To those watching tonight - is this total wrist slashing, or is there some truth here?  Seems hugely negative for a game we were still in at 3/4 time.

Cheers to all those who gave the feedback as well, much appreciated.  Sounds like we just lacked the cattle and the composure at key moments to stay in the game.  Lots of players to return and we get another crack next week on our home deck.  Nothing to get ourselves down about.

Thought ANB was good. Is starting to believe, and was our best link-man through the middle. Lewis had a decent game, more intent to impact. Bernie shut down Sloan. Harmes tried. And the Garlett call is nonsense. We know he lacks touch in heavy conditions, but it's not a matter of show-boating. The loss also wasn't down to a lack of running. Suit up again next week.

I asked the question earlier and got some very reasoned responses, and just wanted to know if that post was more reflective of the game than the other ones.  First time all year I've missed a game and it's interesting seeing how much the posts conflict with each other.

We looked tired and very undisciplined with the ball. Really played with very little structure or plan, and their transition from d50 absolutely slaughtered us. I didn't think we really solved this from a coaching perspective all night - which is very unlike us this year. I'd say players didn't execute more then coaches didn't address it as it was very obvious.

We miss our 2 best clearance players (Jones and Viney) and our 2 best ball users that can pick through a zone (Salem and Watts).

Positives - ANB is going to make it. He's a smart footballer and is a team player.

JKH had some moments.

Oscar is growing in confidence and reminds me of his brother 4 years ago. He's on the right path.

Hunty looks back to his dashing self.

Jesse, honestly looks depressed. I feel for the guy immensely. He kept working at it though and I do think that when it comes together for him it's going to help him a lot. The poor guy needs to have some fun on the field and see that life can be great for him. I don't think I've ever wanted to see a player smile as much as I do for Jess right now.

Wasnt our night and we looked flat. Need some fresh players back. Kent and Bernie (will get 2 weeks again) will go for Watts and Tys.

Really didn't expect JKH to lift like he did. Also saw some good signs, if only sparingly, from guys who need more time or some form, like Hogan, Gawn, Melksham... Even Kent had his moments.

While we might get Watts and Tyson back next week, we still have to cover Viney, Salem and Jones. They're the ones we miss. The Lesser lights have to give us a lot of push to get over Port. It can be done, and I think we match up better against them than we do Crows.

Best we move on quickly.

I feel a little better now after listening to Goodwin after match. Watts and Tyson will play next week,  both could have played tonight apparently.

Viney ran well today and is a strong chance next week.

Hope it helps.

Had a feeling they could have. Heart says: right call, save them, we have bigger badder games coming up. Head says: Is it a good idea to hold players back? man we could have used them tonight. Particularly Watts.

Probably a good decision to hold them back and I agree with you on Watts. His footskills and lowering of the eyes were much needed.

@Wiseblood - what s/he didnt say is that Oscar got his mitt on 4 balls on the line that would have been goals. He was a goal keeper tonight and would have been a lot worse if he wasnt back there.

We bombed it in a lot to the forwardline which was our issue.

Kent had another down day. Some good pressure work but looks a shell of last yer.

Frost had a terrible last quarter which undid a lot of his good work. Pedo he was right on and Max looks like he is short of a gallop. Again the opp targeted him off the ball and one time Jacobs took an uncontested mark as Max was 10 metres away on the ground with 2 crows standing over him.

Hogan was an almost game. If the umps were on his side, he would have been paid another 3 marks which probably would have given him confidence to take another 3 he dropped easily. Garlett tried a few things that didnt work, but we get that.

ANB wasn't poor - he was a key cog and looks like one of the only players who have grown whilst our leaders are out.

Hope that helps.

Disappointed we lost and understand that it is always hard missing so many players.

Adelaide were missing Milera, Ellis-Yolman, and Hampton from best 22.

Dees were missing Tyson, Viney, Jones, Watts, Salem, Brayshaw, and Bugg(?) (Vanders?) from ours.

Average age of the sides 24, 7 months to 25 and 7 months.

Games difference 75.3 to 102.3 (16 under 100 (11 under 50) v 12 under 100 (6 under 5).

To put this in perspective, 'playing the kids' North had 12 under 100 (9 under 50); Dockers 12 (10 under 50 and younger than us); Carlton 16 (10 under 50, older than us).

We put out the 2nd most inexperienced side (after Bris) and third youngest (Bris and Freo) in the league this week.

Things aren't that bad.......

My take:

Dirty nights for talls, Hogan, Gawn, Frost, Pedo, TMac.

Skill errors cost us big time. Counted at least five easy misses for goal. Jeffy x 3, Hogan, Kent.

Out muscled in first quarter. Adelaide looked much, much stronger. Also lost every centre bounce. Gawn is a worry with this at the moment.

Streaming into F50 you can't just bomb away. Surely there is a plan?

JKH looked OK after horror start. Threw himself into tackles which is a good sign. Decent field kick.

Haven't seen the game but observations from afar.

If we didn't have the injury list we have and if we had a decent back up ruck option then...

Gawn would be given some time at Casey to get some match fitness and form under his belt.

Same with Hogan.

...and ditto for Smith.

We don't have a player in the team that can come back/is good enough to deserve a spot straight up or near enough to after missing the amount of footy these guys have.

If we want to run 3 of them back into form at AFL level at the same time (or if we don't have other options) then expect the results we've been getting...Carton was 4 points and that's about all it was. The last month has been poor.

Kent shouldn't be playing senior footy.

Watts must be close, Salem maybe another week, Viney a few off, Jones the same and Tyson the mystery.

...so out of the missing with injury we could probably only expect to see Watts back in.

To sum up, we're carrying 3 guys not ready to resume AFL footy after a long layoff...lets hope they come up better next week because at the moment we are 3 down.

The injured players are keys, 3 of our top 4 mids is a big whole in the team and add to that our best forward (Watts) and 2 best kicks (Watts & Salem) then you have issues.

The 4x6 day breaks have also hurt...

Otherwise, lets all go into meltdown.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. Harrison Petty, JvR, Jack Billings, Kade Chandler, Kozzy, Bayley Fritsch, and coach Stafford.  The backs join them, Steven May, Jake Lever, Woey, Judd McVee, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
