Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

How does Smith survive over Stretch, I know Stretch hasn't been great but what has smith done, looked completely out of his depth last week and has only had one game in the vfl coming into that, the kid must have pictures of someone or something.

More than happy to give JKH a chance. He's a young player, has missed a lot of footy with injuries, and this is his first real season where he's had a decent run at it. I don't think anyone would disagree that he was poor earlier in the year, but we don't pay top dollar to guys like Brendan McCarthy to be a development coach if they can't actually develop players.

Very surprised to see Lynch in there but they couldn't be rushing him back for us? I know they think we are a good team but Adelaide have enough to hold us off so I can only assume Lynch is good to go.

That is a powerful forward line...

Glad to see JKH back, hope he can get used to the tempo straight away but it isn't an easy transition.

And those that want Goodwin to 'just be straight with us and Trengove' about his status have never been a coach before; you can't be that honest because a) it might not be true if enough blokes get hurt, and b) you don't want to have that dynamic of a player being told he is done.

Players know the score, no need to smack them over the head with it to appease sentimental supporters.

Viral meningitis,  and his first game back is in the Darwin conditions.

They will be playing a man down.

Goodwin also confirmed that both Watts and Tyson WILL play vs. Port next weekend.

Unless we win so big they can't get back in.

Goodwin, and Roos before him, seem intent on giving most promoted players more than a week before they send them back to the VFL. (I know there have been exceptions, most recently Mitch White). If Smith doesn't show something in Darwin, he may find himself back at Casey next week. Of course, if the injured players start to return, he may find himself back there anyway.

Lynch back after 2 weeks with meningitis hmmmmm. My partner had it several years ago, viral which is the lesser form, it is a very debilitating diease. She would still get partial symptoms for a few years if she was tired or run down. I reckon he'll struggle as the longer the game goes.

I'm absolutely staggered Lynch is playing.

You would've thought Darwin would be the last venue they'd risk him given the oppressive humidity and the fact they have a massive game against Geelong 6 days later.

Hope the risk backfires on them.

Was looking forward to not having to deal with Lynch on top of Jenkins and Walker.

Surpised the Crows picked Lynch he's been crook for 2 weeks & in hospital.. He will blow up in 5 minutes in Darwin, hopefully this is a sign the crows are underestimating the conditions :pj:

The footy dept clearly want to get games into Smith and Hoges after a long lay off.

Remember Smith has played half of 1 qtr of AFL footy before last week.

He'll find his legs at some point and he did just enough to go again especially with Salem, Viney, Watts and Jones all out meaning we need someone like Smith off half back.

I can understand the Stretch omission given how poor he has been the past two weeks, but how Kent survives is beyond me. A small forward who can't kick goals from 30m out directly in front, and who won't tackle is a complete liability. Smith gets a chance to do what Wagner did last week, and play a million times better than his first game.

If Adelaide get on top early, I suspect Tom might end up playing in defence at some point, as we look undersized down back at present. Hopefully Max & our midfield can at least break even and give our forwards a chance.

Thought Stretch wasn't bad last weekend. Certainly would have kept him over Smith. Especially in the top end heat. Interesting, like some other choices this year. JKH probably needs to strut his stuff after the 3 games this year with little impact. Deserves another chance from the reports of his work at Casey and we could use his speed.

Can't say they don't give players a go at the MFC (except of course for Trenners).

I wouldn't be surprised if Trengove has already told the club he's retired and just wants to play out the year and help the younger players coming through in the vfl, similar to Cross a few years back

They wouldn't pick him as an emergency on that basis. Rather play a younger guy.

Would explain a few things.

Whenever  I read  a Casey report they always wax lyrical about how well hes going but yet why always tell us and never give him a gig.

Dont know how the guy stays motivated to be honest. Wish him nothing but a great future.

I'm excited about JKH's selection in the team so did some digging on his VFL stats (which have been eye-popping at times).

In 8 VFL games this season he's averaged 27.1 touches and 5.8 tackles. I don't go to the games themselves and didn't catch Casey on TV a couple of weeks back but I believe he's playing as an inside mid. He's going at 62.6% which isn't great but inside mids tend to spray it more than backs or wings. He hasn't been very consistent (3 games under 18 possessions) and he wouldn't be the first player who failed to impact in the seniors after big VFL showings but I'm keen to get another look at him in the seniors.

In his three AFL games this season (rounds 5-7) he averaged 11.6 touches and generally failed to get amongst it playing as a forward. He'll probably still primarily play forward but there's a good chance he gets some run through the midfield with Jones and Viney out of action.

One of the things I've liked most about this year has been Neal-Bullen's ability to transfer his VFL form of last year to senior level this year. Would be nice if JKH could make a similar leap at some point. Don't expect it to be this season, in fact he'll probably disappoint this weekend, but I'll be watching him closely.

So drop him after one game back - that'll get him up to AFL standard for sure lol

Stretch has been poor for two weeks, as others have stated.

Kent was pretty average last week but has clearly been given one more week like Stretch was given.

Goody won't unsettle the team too much by taking out a player that performs poorly after only one week. White was an exception perhaps because positionally, he's not very versatile and Wagner is virtually the same player. Smith on the other hand has a different mix of attributes.

I like that JKH has come in for Stretch, I certainly rate him higher than Billy. I reckon supporters have jumped off the JKH-train far too early given the fact he has been playing VFL and has been injury-savaged prior but his form has been super solid and he's a very smart player who offers more than Stretch does imo

For an outside player, Billy is fairly average. His disposal isn't damaging but rather neat and he's not a line breaker in terms of pace. I don't really know what the future holds for him.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
