Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hogan dropped or rested?  Seriously?

None of the posters criticising Hogan are calling for Max to be dropped and he has had 3 ok games.  Max should not be dropped...just saying the double standard applied to Hogan.

Realistically, our good players (Gawn and Hogan) are coming directly into the seniors after long absences rather than a run at Casey.  The same will happen with Jones, Viney, Watts and Salem who also will need a few games to blow out the cobwebs!  Or do the Hogan critics want them dropped after one not so good game.

Get a grip and perspective, Hogan critics!

Kent was awful today and don't need pedo next week.

Out: Kent, pedo

in: watts & Tyson.

ps has Damien Barrett seen Tyson play yet by the way?

No point being rotated through the midfield if you're not actually getting the ball. Hannan had something like 2 possessions in the first half.

I'd leave Smith in, you can't miss half a season and come straight back in for your second game. In the longer term, we'll all be better off.

Kent and possibly Stretch the outs for me, though I find Stretch a hard one. Even though he's struggling, VFL is too easy for him (there's much more time) and I'm not sure how much he's going to learn/improve. We saw the gap in quality between the AFL/VFL with Kent: he's done OK in the VFL the last few weeks, but looked a different class (in a negative sense) today. I wouldn't play Kent again, if we want fringe half-forwards would rather Kennedy or JKH.

Kent has to go out. Cannot or does not bend over to pick the ball up, cannot take a mark above his head and again shirked several contests today.

I don't think he adds anything to the team. Hardly ever wins a one on one. Always takes the easy option.

Clearly we see things differently. I thought Kent played his best four quarter game ever for us. It's the best effort I've seen from him. On the other hand, Stretch, Pedersen and Smith all really struggled. Smith, in particular, looked completely out of his depth.

If Watts is ready, the only way that I could see Pedersen staying in the team is if the club is nervous about Adelaide's tall forwards and recognises that Tom McDonald might need to be shifted back during the game. However, given Darwin's humidity, I suspect we will need more run, so, on balance, Pedersen out for Watts.

If Tyson is ready, I see him coming in for Stretch. While Stretch was better than Smith yesterday, I think Smith deserves another game to see what he can do. Yesterday was virtually his first game. Also, if Smith stays in, that allows Lewis and Vince to play up the ground instead of one of them taking Smith's spot. I always think we look better with Lewis and Vince in or around the midfield.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hogan steps out himself and takes a week off. But being critical of his performance is silly. His presence is undoubtedly important, and the likes of Garlett, ANB, and yes even Kent are better when he is in the side, regardless of his output. His last quarter was very good.

People calling for Hogan to be dropped? Good grief

When he played up the ground he started to find form and touch.

Silly to suggest he take the year off.

I guess we do see things differently...

I thought he was a liability.

He tried to work hard, ran to wrong positions, overcommitted on tackles and as usual missed a regulation set shot.

At least he wasn't lazy, but he's just not a smart footballer.

Admittedly I'm not a fan.

We can agree on this point. But I think his other skills compensate for that...but only when he works hard. I also think he's lost some weight since earlier in the year. He's solid, but at the beginning of the year I thought he looked a bit pudgy around the midriff.

Drop Hogan?

Despite so many of our play-makers being out, other teams have got to do some serious planning to counter our forward line.

Hogan's brute strength and contested marking means they have to try and get a third man up to spoil, and at times he is effective in the midfield.

Meanwhile TMac's repeat leading aerobic capacity gives us an efficient, tough MOBILE target.

No way do we drop Hogan while we can play this two towers setup.

And to think we have Garlett, Petracca, Watts and Hannan prowling the same region. Hogan is far too important to how this all works together even if he genuinely does have a second effort problem which has yet to be fixed.

Kennedy gives a better effort and is less likely to fall over than Kent.

I'm assuming Watts gets another week to sort out his hamstring.

Apparently Kent lead the team for distance sprinted and repeat sprints according to the "Telstra tracker". I don't think effort is the issue with Kent, I just think it's an issue of quality and I'm doubtful Kennedy is that much of an improvement.

I think if there's no returning AFL grade player (ie Watts), we might as well persevere with Kent rather than swapping one NQR for another.

leaning towards no change or Just Tyson in if he's ready. Flights to and from Darwin cant be good for Watts Hamstring. Persevere with Kent to get back up to AFL pace of game. no idea who would come out for Tyson - maybe Stretcher but another inside mid would be good for his game to stay as a pure outside mid

Kent must go. No skills No speed. Can't tackle

Tyson to come in.(hopefully)

Pedo to stay. (Gawn definitely needs help in the ruck. ( they might bring Pencil in as well))

Watts to come in if 100% fit. If he is fit the travel wont affect him.

Hogan to rotate in the centre with Petracca until he gets the speed of the game again.

Agree. I've done the Darwin flight a few times.  Its just too long and hard work and I'm only 178cm..  Then there's the flight home.

Save Jack for the run home and finals.  I'd even consider resting Max in the VFL for the week for the same reason.

Hogans second efforts were a disgrace. completely non existent.  it's embarassing. And this has got nothing to do with being out of form or fitness its about mental intent. And its a part of his game thats never been addressed or fixed. Needs to be dropped. Cant afford to carry guys who don't chase. People have a go at guys like melksham and even in previous seasons guys like Dunn. but at least they have a crack.

In all fairness to the guy hes played about 4 games for the season. Hes been out for 6 weeks and struggling with a life threatening illness. Hes out of form thats all and was rushed back in. His father died as well. The mental challenge for him at present is huge. He has chased in the past. Not making excuses.....just laying out the facts. Yes it was a poor game but it was no worse or better than Gawns. He will improve next week as I'm sure you want him too. You'll see. What a season this has been. If we could just dump the Darwin game.

I thought the same thing last night but after watching the replay he "just needed a run" and im confident he will improve more next week, he is too good a player not too. If Hartigan returns for Adelaide then I think having three talls (Hogs, Mac and Pedo) roaming up forward can work. Darwin is a small gound and covering the ground wont be as big an issue, its only the humidity we need to be concerned with.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
