Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought were Carlton were the better side for the most part, and they clearly had the best 3-4 individual players on the ground but, and full credit to the playing group, we just had more composure at the key moments and found a way to get the job done. Last year we lost in a similar game by 4 goals, so mentally at least we are greatly improved from last year. With half a dozen top players to come back, we can do some damage if we slip into the top six.

THE GOOD

Tom McDonald - absolute star. Get a long term contract in front of him now.

Petracca - last week he had a couple of moments of brilliance. This week he just willed himself in to the game.

Frost & Jetta - brilliant at the back, particularly given the lack of support they received from those around them.

Wagner - much improved on last week.

Oliver - the only other midfielder of note.

THE BAD

Kent - complete liability. Weak at the ball, weak at the contest, still can't kick simple goals. Just go away.

Stretch - lacks composure under pressure and has no thirst for the contest. Has regressed badly from last year.

Lewis - less fumbly this week, but constantly puts teammates under pressure by not taking the hit.

Melksham - remains a liability under pressure, although has some class with time & space.

THE UGLY

Drafting Weideman over Curnow. Oh dear.

Pretty good post but this last point is just embarrassing.

why do people continuously call players genius' for displays of common sense?

oh, mason wood looks at the clock and runs it down before kicking. what a genius!

leigh montagna waiting for opponents to come to him before kicking a goal from the square to waste time..what a genius.

it's common sense! it's like people have never played competitive sport before.

might i add, whats stopping a player from starting his goal kicking run up at 30 seconds from 50m from the mark and simply walking in at snails pace wiping another significant chunk of time off.

sometimes i feel like i'm the only genius around!

Maybe it's because common sense isn't that common

The one that I am surprised has never been tried is when a player is kicking for goal from around 50m - defenders could allow themselves to be used as a stepladder so that a teamate can get a touch on the ball

In a similar vein, you always see players being tackled over the boundary line, taking it out of play for a throw in.  What I'd like to see (if it hasn't been tried already) is players being tackled back into the feild of play to get pinged holding the ball.

Disappointed but not surprised by the umpiring yesterday. Number 22 officiated at the WAFL grand final last year, and I went with my mate who's a Subiaco Lions member. His interpretation of OOB & DOOB changed with every contest and he paid Peel a number of questionable frees at a time when the Lions were surging back into the game

Our two Captains...Viney & Jones then Tyson..Watts..Salem..Brayshaw (yes I will include Brayshaw as he is in our best 22 every day of the week) Gawn after 9 weeks out..Hogan after 7 weeks out & Smith after 13 weeks out.....yes the team we beat was in bottom four but in a season where bottom four beats top teams every week ...we won ...don't care what it looked like or how we did it...we won.   This is one week where criticism is not warranted ...I am just so "god dam" proud !!!!

I agree I thought it was one of our best wins of the season, up there with Adelaide and West Coast. We had our whole starting midfield out bar Clarry, Maxy is a long was from his best after so long out, but they got it done like a finals team should.

I must admit, I spent most of the game bashing Jordan Lewis, with the rage culminating around him taking forever and getting pinged holding the ball in the middle of the park. But I finally came to sense and reason after he received the ball from ANB at the end of the game to run down the clock and celebrate with the boys. Legend!

Also I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned, but how good was Hunt's (non)goal where he ran about 20m with the ball in like 2.4 seconds and snapped one straight through the middle. That should have been allowed just to have it on the highlights reel!

Hunts non goal was superb .

Made four defenders look like statues.

I counted 11-12 very large steps.

Is it 15 steps or 15 metres?

It was an embarrassment that only the umpire could stop him for Carlton.

How's about Petracca's composure and vision and execution to hit ANB in the last minute. Kid has matrix time and RoboCop vision.

I kinda like those nicknames. I always thought Clayton Oliver seems also to find max amount of time. How about Matrix for Clarry and Robocop for Trac. :)

Selecting Smith and Hogan was our own decision, we didn't have to.

I'd prefer to go in with a full team minus a few stars than to lose two players before half time.

100% correct.

We were fortunate that Carlton had 2 on the bench, one of which is Cripps who is a star. I hope the kid recovers well. Always terrible seeing a young player go down. Luckily it's not the knee!

I was weirdly confident we will win. This was the calmest I have been at a game, even though it was a close contest and I knew there was a lot riding on the result. I kept saying to my dad we will prevail because we are a class above. We played at probably 30% of our best, Carlton were at 100%. We pushed through at the end and won some vital contests and held on for the 4 points. We were so mature in the way we handled this match, missing 5 of our best 10 players, and our entire engine room.

Very proud of Oliver, Trac and ANB for stepping up in the absence of Jones, Viney and Tyson. I thought they were exceptional. ANB was brilliant in the last quarter. He has been good all year, and it's obvious his best role is inside mid. That he does some damage on the scoreboard is even better.

Great work from our defensive unit too. Best game I've seen Wagner play, and as usual Jetta is a freak. If he doesn't make the AA team, it is as rigged as I believe it to be. He is the best small defender in the competition. I would love for someone to prove me otherwise!

Hogan and Gawn will be better for the run. And yes I know Joel Smith was rusty, but gees he has some impressive attributes. I'd love to stick with him. His agility, his speed, his disposal, are all top notch. Love him.

You used to be able to use the Smart replay to go through them quickly but I understand that is not available anymore.

IN any case its not just the frees , its the blatant ones they don't pay.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
