Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Of course I am disappointed, the Club has handled it, I don't feel the need to adopt a holier than thou attitude and go on and on about it

They [censored] up, nobody died

No they didn't.

But if players on the list (like 4 of them at a single time) are going to continue to f'up  like this then surely you must understand that it'll add considerabley to the club continuing to underachieve.

I find it quite astonishing that you defend this quartet of players given the circumstances of the injury list and available spots in the 22 that are there for the taking.

I guess those spots are for the players on the list that are totally invested in the club, have bought into the 'journey' that Goodwin speaks of so regularly, are driving the right behaviours to produce a strong culture at the club which will set is up for a sustained period of success.

FMD, Saty. I don't care if we're not in a position to know what actually went on - I couldn't give a stuff! And it's great the club has handled it - I mean as if they didn't have better things to do like pick the best 22 players available to hopefully pull off a remarkable victory against the Swans considering we'd played 4 games in 18 days!

You need to look at the bigger picture here. You commit a lot of your time to the club in volunteer hours and we all invest time, money and emotions into the club hoping that one day soon we'll win a flag. To achieve this, these "young blokes in their 20's" sign a contract and enter into an environment that gives them every chance to succeed at there profession but ultimately it's too easy to go a drink beers against club/team rules.

Pretty simple really.

How you can't be disappointed is beyond me.

Two of Kennedy, JKH and Kent in place of White and Wagner would have helped us in the midfield by providing some much needed run and spread.  Glad the club set the tone by making them ineligible for selection and look forward to seeing the players to work hard and make up for their indescretion.

This is just twaddle

From what I heard Trac explain on Game Day, they didn't go out on the razzle, they had a beer, when under the circumstances they shouldn't have, so they were stupid

The Club, if it was a serious misdemeanor, could have punished them a lot more, so they have punished them appropriately

In hindsight perhaps one or two of them could have helped change the result on Friday night, although I doubt it coz they have previously been lambasted on this forum for not being up to it

So you can't have it both ways

Move on, nothing to see

Twaddle? Is that how you comprehend it?

If so, I'm wasting my time.

This is really frustrating. We had about 5-6 guys on Friday night whose only plausible role was to play off half-back.

We were unable to lock the ball in our forward half and get repeat entries. 3 of the 4 players involved would have been a chance to assist in that role.

Sydney were better around the ball, so I don't think it was match-defining, however, it would have helped.

Kent is not noted on here for his defensive efforts

Kennedy Harris is noted on here as mot AFL standard, has been playing midfield at Casey

Same with Kennedy

Spencer is a ruckman

Who do you mean

Just a note

Half of the AFL squad is at a winery this weekend for a function, god forbid if they have a drink of wine

Anybody actually know the facts on here, the Club obviously did and metered out what they thought was an appropiate penalty

Done and dusted in house, move on

Done and dusted maybe, but that was a costly mistake!

Kent and JHK would have been a lot better to have in the team on Friday than White and Wagner.

Considering these 4 players are struggling to get a game at senior level, it is a pretty dumb life choice to break clear club rules and set yourself back further.

They are lucky we have so many injuries, or they would struggle to break into the senior team.

Idiots all 4 of them, and glad we took a strong stance. Hope they get their sh*t together.

Give me a break! We have 8 days off, and all the players at that function are senior players, who have runs of the board and who I trust completely to do the right thing.

I doubt any of them are getting wasted at a function during the day with their wives/partners.

We are finally a professional club setting standards. Thank god for that!

Completely different circumstances. There's a 9 day break after the Sydney match, completely different recovery protocol to a 6 day break with interstate travel.

The club clearly imposed a no alcohol ban during our successive 6 day break games for the entire list, so as to ensure everyone was available in elite condition if required for seniors. The 4 players in question burned the club, defied the ban, and weren't selected at a time we desperately needed their contributions.

They let the entire team down and were rightly punished.

Demons midfielder Christian Petracca addressed the matter on Sunday morning.

"The VFL (team) had a seven-day break so they were allowed to have a few beers but they probably got to realise that halfway through the game (against West Coast), Jeffy Garlett came down injured and so did (Christian) Salem, so there were (opportunities) for selection," Petracca told Channel Seven.

It's fairly obvious to most. But some on here think they always know more....

Not defending the quartet because I don't know what specific parameters were set.  However, there is a possibility that the Club put in place a protocol for the 4 games in 18 days for the entire senior list without thinking through that the 6 day turnarounds and travel component didn't apply to the Casey fixture and therefore ought not apply to the Casey players.  There is also a possibility that the quartet thought for the same reason, that it didn't apply to them ie misunderstanding.   I'm fully supportive of the Club standing firm, would just advocate that the protocols put in place are well thought through.

Im sure all players would have been clear on the rules & if not as a professional  would you not check??

Players let down their team mates and club down!

I know their surnames both begin with W, but please, could DLs stop talking "White and Wagner" as though they are joined at the hip. This is very short-sighted, and means that anything else above mentioned DLs have to say is disrespected! Wagner was a replacement for Salem. He provides good run off half-back, has already established himself as a handy pick-up (and "up to AFL standard" for those that adjudicate according to some subjective judgement that is set in concrete at birth!). Wagner earnt his spot and should remain in the team beyond the return of some of our stars!

Overheard Jon Ralph on Fox earlier and he elaborated on Petracca's comments. I believe he said the 4 players were kept appraised on the injury situation as it developed during the West Coast game. But rather than call it a night, they disregarded the messages and partied on.

Hard to defend that and certainly not just "a beer or two," as cited by some posters.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
