Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No they shouldnt. Good on them for putting Buggy on the front foot and they probably wanted him to do it so he could be seen to be remorseful. If just hid him away then he'd be hassled at training by the media where he'd probably wouldn't say much. What Bugg did was just stupid and no need for it. Make him accountable for his actions.

Didn't seem that remorseful to me - sounded as if he was told what to say. But it was the right thing to do.

Mitch White? Well I got it wrong with Mitch White, gee he turned it over time and again, unfortunately not up to it.

Billy Stretch? failed to go when it was his turn at one stage last night and had no presence whatsoever a boy in a mans game

Jack Viney? Plantar Facia problems Gee Sorry all, but they have a problem of lingering ( It could be a two month layoff if severe enough maybe more , iwont say season ending yet!)

Bugg? probably out 4-6

Wagner? see White

ANB ? Been saying it for a while not up to it

Harmes Has a big head attitude

So  5 outs! Not unreasonable given my evaluation Inns  Hogan, Watts, Ben Ken, Weeds and maybe just maybe Trengove! Garlett will also be in if fit!

If you look at the season as blocks of games, which Goodwin says they do, then we just went through the most difficult 18 days of footy  we face for the season and came out with 3 wins.

The outs are hard to judge as we just looked exhausted from the first siren. I suspect a month ago the plan for this week and last was to rotate 2 new players in each game for fresh legs, but that went out the window with 6 of our best 10 players injured - and even just copping 2 new injuries a game over the passed 3 weeks killed any chance to refresh with players knocking down the door.

Injuries are an issue, but they are also a really good chance to see what we have. JKH will come in now, and will be expected to repay the contract faith. Kent and Kennedy deserve a shot.

Positives: Oscar is looking fantastic, and I thought Frosty tried his hardest and at least makes opposition clubs think about him since his pace is such a weapon. Jetta has been great for 3 years.

How good will it be to have Watts, Hogan and Pedo forward and then have Oscar, Frost and Tmac back?

Hopefully that happens this year!

Sydney are a team of scraggers.

They scragged harder, and got away with more terrible footy and rugby.

Umps were gay for Sydney.

B team for us

Move on.

We had some pretty questionable frees go our way too. The umps were poor full stop, and certainly contributed to making it an ugly display of footy.

It was clear that Sydney targeted Max as well.

Did anyone else see the incident where he was kneed in the guts or nuts in a rucking contest early on?

Happened right in front of me and looked a deliberate action.

Will be interesting to see if the MRP look at that one.

Saw the hit as well, looked like Max got hit in the lower rib section or close to his manhood. He was in disbelief he didn't get a free in that ruck contest, whilst grimacing in pain on the ground he was looking at the ump with a "are you bloody serious mate" look on his face.

Omac is the story of the year. For some reason I always thought he'd be a good player but not this quickly. Without your trio we would have been really smashed.

Our midfield was MIA not solely due to Viney and I have discovered that Lewis is very inconsistent. He was so much better at Hawthorn. Many did look really sluggish and tired so who knows. Tackles wouldn't stick.

Harmes cant kick to save himself. Hes as bad as Bugg who is no longer an issue. The latter sold his mates down the river when they have so many injuries. The club should double his suspension. I know injuries happen but I recon Max is still not his old self and having your top 3 goal kickers out with both captains is very, very unlucky. (not to mention the odds of Brayshaws 4 concussions).

WTF, what a load of BS

When we were winning all these blokes looked the goods and we're kicking goals metaphorically (and literally).  Pretty tough call to single out these guys when 3/4s of our side looked spent and lathargic tonight.  Oliver had a [censored] night, perhaps he's a VFL player also.  Gawn was ok, but still not hitting his A game (with good reason).

If anything, I thought Harmes and Melksham were a few that actually showed a bit of energy and drive tonight.  Yes Harms missed a soda early in the second half, but that's hardly what lost us the game tonight (not to mention the clutch goal he kicked last week to keep us in the game in the fourth).  Let's not forget that a number of those you list are still essentially developing players who have continued to improve and pretty much all normally fearlessly and relentlessly attack the contest, hunting the ball and the opposition and take on the gamr in a manner that our game plan/style which has been so successful over the previous four weeks demands.

I'm quite prepared to put this game down to 3 X 6 day breaks, No Watts, Garlett, Jones (& Pactically Viney) and comming up against the other form side in the comp who are at close to peak fittness/personal.  Even then, we hardly discraced ourselves.  If next week's game is a disaster, the things would look more ominous for some, but let's wait and see there, so far this year we have been pretty good at backing up after a loss.

AFL Scheduling has put us in this position, find me a club that has this grueling draw disgrace I hope Ox, KB and all the media identities jump all over this because this was not a fair representation of the body of work we have produced this year. What Gets me is they put us up against a well rested and experienced outfit not even sydney could cope with one 6 day break against Essendon but its ok that Melbourne have three 6 day breaks in a row this can not be allowed to happen again. Shame on the AFL have destroyed our top 4 hopes and hanging on to top 8 by a thread.

We all are!

But to bring in the grim reaper and say we'll only win 1 more for the year is way OTT. Cheer up mate, we've done remarkably well in this patch with the injuries. Plenty of upside to look forward too.

The more I think about it, the more it irks me.

Apart from GWS and we know the talent pool they have been gifted, no other team would have gone close to the Swans last night under these circumstances. In saying that I don't think GWS have gone through a patch like we have anyway.

Our players are dropping like flies and from what I read, our training loads have been minimised to compensate for this tough month.

Now, I sit comfortably in saying, that for the first time  ever I couldn't care less if players last night went in half hearted or without the required effort. Enough is enough and the boys have been exceptional with winning 3 from the last 4.

I don't blame one single person from the MFC last night for the loss and even if Trengove, JKH, Weed or Kent had played,   the result would be exactly the same.

We had two of our best contested out of the match for either a half and the whole game.

We had a 2nd game back, no match fitness, Big Maxy who was spent by half time.

Wags a turnover King playing in the position where Hunt should have played.  Coaching error.

White simply not up to this level right now.

T-Mac spending too much time in the ruck....see Big Maxy issue above.

Clarry, probably our best contested inside player this year, spending the first 15 min on the bench??  Handing the contested momentum to Sydney early.   Another coaching error.

No genuine small forward.

Our best ball user, JW, sidelined.

A 3rd match with a six day turnaround, probably resulting in many of the youngsters being out of the contest for much of the night.

Take absolutely no notice of this match.

If we get Watts, Jones, Jeffy, Hogan, Salem and Viney back the next time we meet, we will pummel this mob.

The only thing standing in our road to success from here are injuries.

No probs with this and I reckon we are tracking very nicely. Just reckon they are the standard for contested footy over a very long period - what Roos introduced for them and what he has started with us. Only thing I don't agree with is that once we get our players back that we will pummel them. Guys like Parker and Kennedy are seriously good players - Kennedy being the standard, he is a competitive beast. We were very fumbly and that is a direct result from referred pressure (we did the same against the doggies). I don't reckon you can shrug that game off, instead I think we can learn.

Last night was a good reality check. But for me the goal is still very achievable - make the top 8, which is completely in our control. There are enough beatable teams left for us to play, regardless of the current injuries.

And should have been a free kick for blocking Max from contesting the hit out. Happened right in front of the umpire but play on. I thought the umpiring was atrocious last night not that it affected the outcome, it was just hard to work out their decisions. Holding the ball, incorrect disposal? Anyone understand the rules anymore?

Well, we just 4 on the trot and your response to our first loss is utter despondence.

We have injuries, but can we fashion a forward line out of spare parts to kick a winning score?

Done that.

Can we lose a huge plank of our stoppage work and still get enough footy to average over 50 entries forward?

Yeah, we did that for a couple months.

Footy is never easy and yes we look to be without Salem, Jones, and Viney for a month, and Watts and/or Garlett for one or two more weeks, but we are 8 and 6 and in a great spot to not look for nihilistic excuses to be despondent about watching footy in the last 2 months of the season.

I think of it this way, we had 4 games in 18 days with 6 out of our best 10 not playing. To win 3 out of those 4 is an outstanding effort considering the above. I never expected to beat WCE but thought we'd beat Sydney so we are no different to what I expected. Our best, with a full side, can win it.

Thought Maxy Gawn has really struggled his first two games back.

Missing a lot of marks he would usually take.

Not concerned as I'm sure he is just a bit rusty, but something I've noticed.

Yeah, he seems to lacking some strength at the moment. Was bullied on occasion at ruck contests as well.

He'll get there.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
