Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's been posted by many on here and we finally have a base comparison - we cannot win AFL games with VFL standard players

White

Wagner

Neal - Bullen

Bugg (stupid tonight....deserves eight)

Stretch

Pederson (looked cooked)

Melksham

Harmes (but there's hope)

Looked like 2014 all over again out there....

You can. Just not 8 of them at once. Role players have their place but you can't carry them all.

Viney confirmed Plantar Fascia.

Great... a month at least.

I'm actually relieved to hear that it's not a bone / ligament issue - the game has lost too many from those (Trengove, Egan, Hird (came back), Clark(?e)...)

So he'll be back.

Walk away from tonight - I suspect the coaches aren't too surprised, and good on them for not playing those that "might" have got up - and getting the right.

Crap umpiring, crap commentators. But realistically they were too good, too strong. That's the standard for contested footy.

We had two of our best contested out of the match for either a half and the whole game.

We had a 2nd game back, no match fitness, Big Maxy who was spent by half time.

Wags a turnover King playing in the position where Hunt should have played.  Coaching error.

White simply not up to this level right now.

T-Mac spending too much time in the ruck....see Big Maxy issue above.

Clarry, probably our best contested inside player this year, spending the first 15 min on the bench??  Handing the contested momentum to Sydney early.   Another coaching error.

No genuine small forward.

Our best ball user, JW, sidelined.

A 3rd match with a six day turnaround, probably resulting in many of the youngsters being out of the contest for much of the night.

Take absolutely no notice of this match.

If we get Watts, Jones, Jeffy, Hogan, Salem and Viney back the next time we meet, we will pummel this mob.

The only thing standing in our road to success from here are injuries.

I was at the game and once it headed South I spent a lot of time watching our running off the ball.

Mac tried his guts out and Jetta, Omac and Frost also were very good under relentless pressure.

My main concern is the physical condition of half the team.

Petracca, Hunt, Lewis, Pedo, Vince, Tyson, Harmes all looked to be very sore if not carrying niggles.  We need to be very careful with these guys if not even rest a few to make sure we have them up and about for the business end of the season.

well tonight was a downer. Yes the 4 games in 18 days did have an impact on us. But we lost this through lack of effort, the whole team was flat, we did not tackle, we did not chase. Putting both wagner and white down in the backline threw it out of wack, both did very little for the team. Hunt and Harmes both quite. Bugg may as well went off after that hit on the swans player as he contributed bugger all. We failed to man up so the swans just chipped it around us all night long.

Guys need to have a good long break and bring in some fresh players, wager, white, bugg, Harmes and possible ANB could all have a rest and practice their skills with Casey.

Sorry to pick you Deec.

i agree that 4/18 had an impact.

but don't think they were Flat or lacked effort.

sydney went in with their best and a stronger more experienced side they proved to be. They were able to stand up in tackles and umpires allowed them plenty of time and scope to take advantage of their strength.

our "boys" were simply overrun by the bigger bodies who tackled harder by opponents who were allowed to play with vigour.

Effort was shown by most but Bugg was somewhere else and Clayton had trouble getting involved. Viney was significant loss when added to Jones. We seemed to be a forward down Hogan, and Watts was not there to mop up and deliver. Plus no Garlett to crumb off the few contests that were created.

Yeah we were beaten but the Swans have nothing more to offer. We can improve

Hope we learned

Please....I'd rather he say nothing, clearly Mills didn't want to hear it, why does anyone else have to?

Why did it require a public apology, especially prior to giving Mills a genuine personal one. Should have let the dust settle and then tried to contact Mills.

Petracca was our best I thought, along with the McDonalds. Gawn wasn't great, we needed more from Lewis and Vince when Viney went down, it seems like they've forgotten how to win the ball. Some looked tired, some just aren't up to standard (White, Wagner, Stretch). Pedo didn't have anything close to the impact of previous games and he might be squeezed out now once Hogan and Watts are back, unfortunately

What station was that? Said on Fox sports he's definitely not playing next week.

He and Christian Salam were speaking to members in the lindsay Hassett room. Simon Goodwin said in press conference that Watts and Garlett are chance next week. He also said that Hogan is getting closer.

I don't like losing as much as the next bloke and I don't believe in the cliche " the loss we needed to have."

Reality is, Essendon gave the Swans a lifeline last week and tonight was always going to be a tough assignment against a seasoned outfit at full strength.

We have to consider the fact that not only our players out are easily the first picked, they are also match winners on their day. Petracca looked the only one tonight that could win it for us. Most of the boys looked cooked and I don't blame them one bit.

I found the second half somewhat admirable to be honest, I might be in the minority here but after watching the captain limp out of the huddle and straight down the rooms just prior to the second half commencing,  it sent a dagger through my heart.

It was 3.7 to 6.4  in the second half and a lot of teams would have completely got themselves blown off the park at this stage without any true leaders out there.

Plenty of footy ahead, just hope the footy gods are kind to us soon.

I knew we were headed for a loss, our depth was tested and Sydney play one on one and that doesn't help an attacking side undermanned after a six day break from the West. We now know what our limitations are. We technically conceded rolled the dice and lost. Just unfortunate it happened on a Friday night. We may yet be in for a tough month. Our ground ball skills looked like a team who needed the weekend off. Some of our disposal by foot is at times not at AFL standard. Lewis and Vince look like they are playing in the Masters.

Gawn looked to have aged 30 years tonight. Clearly stuffed. Needs the break and the match fitness. Contradictory I know, but he looked slow and flat and also not very sharp with the footy or mobile. He will be better for the run.

It is pretty obvious JKH, Kennedy and Kent must have done something as there is no way Dion Johnstone would be ahead of them as an emergency.

Tonight was not unexpected. We didn't lack effort but lacked spark and were 3-5 steps off our normal spread. This meant they had plenty of short kick options to use and we had no options out of the backline or into the forward line so just dump kicked on most occasions. Gawn seems to be lacking his attack on the ball in the air and holding position since his return and I hope it returns quicker than his beard grows.

Whilst it's great we have won 3 of 4 in 18 days the injury toll has killed us and I expect will ruin our second half of year more than we hope.

If I look for good points tonight, we never dropped our heads. O-Mac is getting better and better. T-Mac could actually make a serious foil with Hogan on return. You realise how good Salem is when he's not there. You realise how good Petracca will be the more you watch him.

Rest up. Reset. Go again.

Top post. Saved me some typing

We've played our best footy in June, a month in which no-one has won a flag., It may be getting towards August before we start to get anywhere near our best team back on the park. But that gives us time to get rolling again towards the back end of the season

It's still a fun ride people

Have watched 1st Qtr on replay since returning from G. Those happy to shove Wagner under the bus are short sighted! He had a very good first Qtr. No way should he be lumped in with White as a dodgy selection. I agree that White had a shocker. Labelling players as VFL standard is dumb! Hannon was playing VAFA standard two years ago. Over the years I've heard the same thing said about Nathan Jones, Sam Frost, Cam Pederson, Oscar MacDonald, and so on. Bugg has copped a lot for his response to being impeded while he was trying to get to the ball. He will get several weeks for that! I loved the way he put his body in the path of a Swan who has was running at Big Max to remonstrate. Bugg has his deficiencies, but avoiding putting his body on the line is not one of them. I think we can do better with selection than we did against Swans... I look forward to Kent's return and I am keen to see J Smith again. Maynard may get a chance and I hope Weiderman can follow up on the progress he made last week. It's not all 'not up to AFL standard' in the VFL. The challenge is to have some synchronicity when a large number of players come in to the best 22. Something that was lacking tonight.

Thought about starting a new topic "Why I now hate Friday night games":

1.  We lost.

2.  We lost.

3.  We lost.

4.  Six day breaks;

5.  Brian Taylor;

6.  Brian Taylor;

7.  Brian Taylor;

8.  Bruce McAvaney.

First two kicks straight to Sydney, was ok for the rest of the quarter. Good positioning but just not clean when he needs to be.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
