Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You just don't want to remember.

Most games in the 80's had a single camera coverage provided by the TV News crews.

Players belted each other all the time off the ball, some got caught

bugg is fool for what he did, but don't change history

I agree Bugg is a fool

I'm not changing history. I don't need to. ! was there watching it mate. I'm sick to death of the 70's & 80's being made out to be worse than they were, Clowns making out footy to be a weekly bloodbath. If that cap fits.......

"Rod Grinter did that every week"

That was your statement. I still call bullshite.

Channel 7 comentators overplayed this incident big time and just wouldn't shut up about it all night.  [censored] off.

I think Dermie actually got it right, it was a stupid act, but probably not intended to make quite the contact that eventated.  Scofield's could have been just as bad.  All about the intent and the realitive needlessness, which was similar in both cases.  If anything at least Bugg's was actually in gametime and far closer to being in-play than Scofield's.

And the fact your quick to defend him is disgusting. Your probably one of those flogs that was calling Oliver weak as [censored] during the week.

I did exactly the opposite.

For you to know that would require literacy and comprehension skills. Maybe go get some ;)

Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for him, but I don't feel as though Buggy intended to get him as he did.  A whack to the neck/top of the chest may have been his intention, but if you take the risk then this is what can happen.

Doesn't excuse what he did and he will get weeks (4 sounds about right), but doesn't deserve the high level of criticism on here at the minute.  Buggy will be back.

Of course he didn't.  He flung out reactively. He did clock him a cracker but that was more luck ( bad ) than intent or aim.

Agree...the vitriol, the hyperbole, almost laughable.

Buggy made a mistake, a reckless act like Hogan like Lewis, like Fidge, like Grinter, like O'Dwyer, like Hughes like Pike like another 50+ MFC players have done.

He will probably be lucky receiving only 6 weeks. He probably won't get another gig this season in the seniors.

If he did that in King Street he would end up arrested - lucky for him it is on a sports field.

Society and the AFL have a different view on this type of incident from bygone days - but the Bugg hating on here about get him out of the club, not what this club stands for etc  is such an over reaction  and typical on this site of people turning on their own players like something akin to the Roman mob in the arenas

I thought it was an accident.

Maybe unduly rough play, perhaps taking into account his services to boy scouts, the rspca and and his sponsorship of amnesty international we could get him off with a reprimand.

Yep don't disagree with that, probably get internally fined as well, he was remorseful, he played a very poor game after that.

He's not in the realm of Leigh Matthews, David Rhys Jones or Barry Hall.

The 70's and 80's were worse than now, I clearly remember Matthews taking out Giles and Smith  and remember Jarrot dropping Matthews in retaliation for his dog act on Giles at the MCG. I clearly remember the 10 minute all in brawl against Carlton at the MCG in the second quarter after Rhys Jones shirt fronted Elshaug. I clearly remember Big Carl 's last game against Collingwood where he laid out Kevin Morris and we were all joking about it. I remember Ted fidge taking tony shaw out, Grinter' s indiscretions, against Eagles, Essendon and Footscray in 87-89, O'Dwyer was lucky not to be suspended in 88 in the finals against Collingwood where he punched Fellowes to the jaw and then moved off before he could get reported. He got caught the following week against Sartori.and missed the GF.... More cameras now more tv exposure, if that was the case in those days there would have been more suspensions. It was very much a different game then.

I reckon Bugg would wake up this morning feeling pretty ordinary. It was dumb what he did but coming from Buggy Im not surprised. It looked wrose when when I got home and saw it on the replay.

It's just something we didn't need. In the past week we have seen Oliver questioned about staging, Houli cop it after his whack, Hall and Staker face each other about what Hall did and now we have to have our team in the media again for the wrong reasons.

The worst thing is this will drag out to tuesday when Im assuming he will have front the AFL tribunal.

I would be surprised if it less than 5 weeks given recent events. He is a player the pushes the boundaries and annoys the crap out of opposing players. I doubt he would plays seniors again this year.

I do really like Bugg, along with the agreesion, niggle and bit of moungrle and dare he brings to the side.

But he has been on the cusp of something stupid and completly out of line like this for a number of weeks now, because he hasn't been smart and moderated, adapted and controled his outbursts of agression in a way which is acceptable to the current state of play and tolerance for impact type asults (flying fists and palms) on opposition players.  Any player who throws around their arms and punches/slaps etc opposition players is bound to make contact and result in something serious sooner or later.  The club should send him to Judo lessons to learn how to wrestle better in his absence from the game as a new acceptable way for him to exert physical dominance and intimidation on the opposition.

I actually thought his attempt at an apology came across as scripted, staged and a bit insincere.  He had to do it and I'm not saying he wasn't sorry at all, but it didn't come across very well.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
