Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15

I think we should go like for like. Therefore, barring no other injuries I'd like to see the following based on recent VFL reports:

In: Wagner & Kennedy

Out: Salem & Garlett

Kennedy always seems to be high in pressure acts judging by the comments and I think this will be important against the Swans. Wagner had a slow start to the season but I think his best is very good. Not in the same class as Salem but a very capable replacement.

I'd start Tmac forward and Frost on Buddy. However, I'd be willing to move Omac forward and Tmac back if Buddy was getting on top. Though it will take a team effort to stop his output.

B:    Jetta        OMac      Hibberd

HB:  Lewis      Frost        Hunt

C:    Vince       Oliver       Stretch

HF:  Petracca  TMac       ANB

F:    Kennedy   Pederson  Hannan

R:   Gawn      Tyson      Viney

Int: Harmes  Wagner  Melksham  Bugg

Still a good enough side to beat the Swans, but it will be tough with consecutive short breaks.

I'm tipping Swans by 10 points but I'm confident with the sides new found ability to dig deep we could steal another win here.

That being said we're entitled to lose this game given the back to back to back 6 day breaks coming back from Perth. However, we must beat Carlton the following week, not negotiable.

I get what you're saying but the phrase "entitled to lose" is an ugly one. Especially when being applied here because we are every chance of winning this one, short break or not.

Belief.

The team has it.

It's Friday night - another opportunity to make a real statement.

I would not be the slightest bit surprised if they pull off another remarkable victory.

What a weekend for ladder positions:

  • Dees (5th, 8 wins) vs Swans (10th, 6 wins)
  • WB (9th, 7 wins) vs WCE (7th, 7 wins)
  • GWS (1st, 10 wins) vs Cats (3rd, 9 wins)
  • Port (4th, 8 wins) vs Rich (6th, 8 wins)

So many classic 8 point games for top 4 contention!

We win Friday night and it puts great pressure on the subsequent games especially: Cats, Port and Rich as we go % or game and % clear of them!

A Demon win will make them squirm a little!

Desperately, hope we win!

Hopefully they don't lay 150+ tackles on us as they did last year. That was the most frustrating game to watch; whenever a Demon got even a sniff of the ball, he was mauled.

That was the "pressure Melb and they will cough it up" stage of our progress. I would like to think we have improved our contested work and smartness around the contest as well the ability to break out of congestion with precise kicks and HBs..at least that what I am hoping for...

And it was also a very wet game...making ball handinling very difficult...

Interesting article in the Hun, covering who will finish in the eight:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/the-run-home-gilbert-gardiner-predicts-every-clubs-finish-to-the-afl-season/news-story/ee08ebd91b7aa8e5b189af09c7e3573b

"Is Friday night a mini Grand Final preview? It’s not beyond the realms of possibility because the Swans — like Melbourne — believe they’re good enough to go deep in September. With finals all but assured, the Dees are a sneaky 37 per cent chance for the top four, according to Champion Data. Need to beat North Melbourne in Hobart and St Kilda at the MCG to stay in the hunt for a double chance."

2 hours , 45 minutes and counting until selection. Once again, I will be flat come bounce, the anticipation is just eating away at me.

I look at our top players that are missing and I think this will be some win if we get up, on the other hand,  albeit important , only Jeffy and Salem miss from the team last week. They had minimal impact last week so tonight's selection looms as the biggest of the year. Goodwin and Co need to get this right.

After reading that article it just reminds me that the games we dropped against Freo, Hawks, Nth and Tigers will be the reason we miss the Top 4. Geez, we'd be clear atop of the ladder if we'd won those.

Must account for Nth and Saints in the run home.

Ok perhaps "entitled to lose" was a poor phrase. However, given that we've just had 2 of the finest wins this club has delivered since 2006, we've got injuries to key players, coming back from Perth after three 6 day breaks, I don't think we can go too crook on them if we lose.

Obviously hope we win and believe we have the character, hunger and determination to do it. But it is a tough assignment.

Not quite sure what the adjective "sneaky" adds to this unexplained number. Irrespective of the formula used to determine the "37 per cent chance", that number is meaningless if we're not told what the percentage chances of every other club is.

it's a sneaky number because it just sneaks in between 36 and 38

Realistically we were never going to win all those games you just mentioned.

I can forgive the Richmond loss as we were down 2 players after half time in a helter-skelter contest.

The Freo loss was a disgrace as the Dockers only played 1 good quarter of footy and somehow found themselves in front at the end.

Hawthorn was also unforgivable considering they'd just copped three 80 pt losses in the previous 4 weeks.

The North game they were on, we were a bit off...it happens... good sides lose occasionally.

Wow, I cant believe this.  Someone tell this guy we are 2 games from 12th spot, smashed by injuries and anything can happen.

Yeah we should make finals, but saying it is assured is pure insanity.

Does anybody remember the after match functions we used to have back in the Daniher days? I only went to a few and they were generally at the Hilton in a big room with a stage. There was 1 back in about 2004 when wed just pinched number 1 spot on the ladder after a win over the Hawks at the G. Daniher walked on stage in front of the whole team and just waved 1 finger at the crowd which went absolutely berserk! Unfortunately the fairy tale didn't come true that year, but I was wondering now with our resurgent successes would perhaps this sort of thing start happening again? I'm not sure who or how it used to be organized but they were great events.

I'd prefer Kent or JKH to Kennedy, if one was to come in.

Kennedy is more of the same - pressure forward with iffy disposal. The difference between Kennedy vs Bugg, Harmes and ANB is the latter 3 all have tanks. Kennedy might be a bit zippier, I just don't think we can entertain too many wayward kicks, even if there has been improvement.

Walking the beach break nothing in my head the whirl of cheroot smoke riding my tread and two sooty oystercatchers coming my way low on the wave and I call out to them ...Hey who's in and they waggle their wings like two big W's and I see its Wagner and White for Garlett and Salem and exhaling I say thanks     but what does that mean and almost lost in the waves is the sooties cry ... Hunt goes fooorwwarrd... And so I stop take of my clothes and walk into the surf Byrons lighthouse is blinking on the horizon.....

Madness! Tough draw and we need 5 wins from 9 games. I'd say we are a good chance at finals but could easily blow it.

The thing that will hurt us most is that the five players missing are ~top 7 ball users at the club. I think we'll look uglier than usual and probably kick more behinds than goals

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
