Not sure why we need to bring in an extra defender, unless Tom McD plays forward/ruck. We generally play with seven being three nominal talls (O Mac, T Mac and Frost) and four smalls (out of Hibberd, Jetta, Hunt, Salem, Melksham, Vince, Lewis, Wagner, Harmes). Even without Salem and Wagner, there are enough options for small defenders already - eg, Hibberd, Jetta, Hunt and Vince or Lewis. If Tom McDonald is to play ruck/forward, then I can see the reason for Wagner being picked.

I'd like to see JKH play on-ball (replacing Salem) and Kennedy taking Garlett's spot. I remain unconvinced that Kent has got the defensive side of his game up to standard. if Tom McD is to play forward, then Wagner might come in and Kennedy might miss out.

I ,like you unconvinced on Kent, yet , but i reckon they will put him in. Swans are slowing down a bit and Hibberd and Hunt cause their Brains Trust no end of angst.........

I like it saty, I just think our big advantage over the swans could be speed. The bombers made them look really slow at times.

Hunt moved forward in the last 15 of the West Coast game (at least) and impacted a bucket load of contests. Would not be surprised with Jeffy out to see it happen.

Stability in the back 6 has been vital to our progress.  Not sure that there will be two changes there.

He was almost best on ground in last weekend's game against the previously undefeated Box Hill Hawks.  Played a very good strong game and his delivery was superb.

Agree. Yes TMac has gone forward but Goody (and Roos before hm) is loathe to make changes down back, even during games. yes hunt went forward for a while but that is rare example. As an example our HB flankers Salem, Hunt  and Hibberd could all run through the midfield in the way Hannan, Trac and garlett do but rarely if ever do. Synergy is jut too important when using the zone defensive style we favour. 

I can't see hunt playing forward for that reason but also his meters gained is a critical element of our game plan. Opposition coaches would love for us to play him up forward for this reason. 

Wagner is the obvious replacement for Salem. And it will be either Kent or JKH for garlett. Kent is the more obvious choice but JKH has played so well in the last few weeks i won't be surprised if they reward that form.

I wonder if JKH could be brought in to play a shutdown role on Mills. If not, I'd be sending ANB to him. Either way, shutting him down goes along way to us winning.

I thought Kent looked sharp. I've seen him a couple of trainings and he came back pre-season with a bit of pud, got injured for a while and has taken a while to get in good shape. I was thinking he is pretty close now.

Watts not there would make me think he is possibly two weeks away yet and may not get back for the game against Carlton.

Garlett and Jones both looked good, both probably step it up next week and both are a chance for the Blues, running at 75%.

Viney was interesting, he is still not 100% in the shoulder (in my opinion). They tested him with some bumps but he rolled his shoulder away on impact. I don't know anything about shoulder injuries so I'm not sure what the treatment is for his problem and whether it will be an ongoing problem or is nothing more than sore. Hopefully he doesn't have to carry it for the rest of the season.

 They may be rolling the dice a bit with him and considering what he is in for against the Swans mids on Friday I will be watching him closely and hoping like hell he can get through unscathed.

It wouldn't surprise me if in the long term they want to develop Nietz type skills in him.

I'm liking the calls to bring Wagner in and move Hunt forward. He looks very dangerous in the air and is a bit of a livewire, could he be used as a tagging role as well forcing his opponent to be more accountable?

His pace would surely worry a few defenders into some mistakes.

Would make sense to have Tom shift back onto Buddy/Reid and Omac chance his hand and give us a target forward.

I am in the minority - I like Hunt behind the ball, breaking the lines. Whilst I have no problem with him pinch hitting for small periods of time forward I don't like him in the tightest and most congested part of the ground. I believe his best value to the team is his running where he has some space to do so-  off half back or the wing.

I doubt anyone disagrees with you, but players need to be versatile and forward pressure has never been more important.  So, in the absence of your best pressure forward these types of moves come into play.
