Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Now is not the time to externalise our locus of control.

We'll play in Darwin, we'll win, and we'll sit solidly in the top 4.

Then a few weeks later we'll play in Canberra, to claim top spot. With a quick visit to Tasmania first, for conditioning to the climate, of course.

I'm a bit on the fence with this, I think we're entitled to review it strongly towards the end of the contract and see if it would be possible to raise the dough another way.

The AFL are very keen to maintain a regular presence there in the H&A season and regardless of where we are situated we are still their best option. So we should negotiate a deal with the AFL that we continue this on the proviso we ALWAYS have a bye after the Darwin game. I honestly can't believe we don't do this anyway (I can only imagine we've been cautious of not biting the hand that feeds you), but it is a definite disadvantage to our team for not one but two weeks. If they want that presence to continue then they should want to play ball with us. FFS we had the bye after Alice Springs, why didn't we play in Darwin for that and Alice for round 17?

I have already pencilled in the port game as a loss. Hope I am wrong. Playing in Darwin is a joke. Wonder if we would get more money playing o/s in Manila or Singapore ???????

There's a difference between some away games.... and that which we've sold out to pamper afl house with by touting in Darwin.

Today .. I'm Melbourne.... let's concentrate on.,.. MELBOURNE

Its 2017...its always NOW.

Is that the best answer you have got?

You have said Membership Numbers are growing up in the NT, i am asking what are the numbers after nearly 10 years of forfeiting Home Games??

I heard an interview with Peter Jackson on Triple M about a month ago. They were discussing the China game and asked PJ if Melbourne had thought about it.

Paraphrasing here:

Yes we did look at it very briefly. We ruled it out very quickly as it was not in the best interests of the players. The football department looks at all options with the view of what is best for the players. We already sell games to Darwin and will not do anything further that will compromise our teams chances.

When pressed on the NT arrangement, He said, the Alice Springs game is not much different to playing a game on the Gold Coast; the weather is similar and its a similar flight time. The Darwin game is a bigger challenge. The amount of money we receive is equivalent to a 60,000 attendance game the G and we simply need the money.

Wayne Carey said that surely once we started producing better results on and off the field that we will stop the deal.

PJ agreed.

If the club feels it needs to and the AFL "support" playing in Darwin then it must be demanded that this is always, for both teams, followed by a bye.

That really shouldn't be hard to arrange if the AFL actually cared.

If we have to I'll take the Alice game if:

  • it is played on the indigenous round
  • is televised free to air across the nation
  • is publicized by the AFL
  • some good charter flights were arranged together with accomodation deals (NT is not exactly cheap!)

We have none of these at present. Over time I could see it building into a good winter road trip for Demon supporters.

Not interested in Darwin for any money

Not that hard

Darwin is TWICE the trip . To say it's no different is not factual.

PJ was comparing the Alice game to GC not the Darwin game.

As for the OP's post, yes the Darwin game sucks. Two games in Alice would be preferable, if the NT games must happen.

Frankly, the 'home game' that I have always resented is the one we also had to have at Etihad (often against St. Kilda or another tenant)! Finally, they have taken that away from us just in the year that we have learned to win there! Go figure! ?

Except PJ compared the GC to Alice not Darwin. So maybe you need to take your own advice regarding facts :)

That's great but has nothing to do with what I posted.

How many NT members does MFC have? Pretty simple question.

I dunno ask PJ he signed off the deal, good enough for me, just another subject for the serial whiners on this forum to go off about now the team is winning

They obviously need it

Me, I don't care if we played on Mars and won

We also have a growing membershio out of Darwin and the NT, adding to the record membership

You claim it's a growing membership yet have no idea what the figures are. Either put up or shut up.

Has nothing to do with whining, it's a discussion forum we're allowed to discuss these things.

As an exercise I just went through a dummy booking for the Darwin game on AFL travel:

Return flight plus one night in a hotel ... minimum $1,000 !!

Hell ... you can buy a GF package for that.

I would do just that.

It is what it is. We've got as much chance of beating Adelaide in Darwin as we do at the MCG. I have faith in the club to get the players right for Port a week later. Every team has challenging aspects to its draw, this is one part of ours.

Let's be realistic though, we have four genuine away games this year (Adelaide, West Coast, GWS & North). You can guarantee we would get at least two more if we didn't have the NT games, most likely a trip to Queensland & a second trip to Adelaide.

In an ideal world, yes we would have 11 home games at the G, and draw crowds that would make each of them profitable. But it's not an ideal world. I'd much rather pocket the cash from the NT games, and try to make the NT venues work for us, rather than lose a fortune drawing 15,000 to a MCG game, 10,000 to an Etihad game and travelling interstate twice more.

Having said that, free to air TV coverage should be guaranteed for at least one of those games as part of the deal.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
