Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Oliver is no 'stager'!

Sure, I get that view. There is an imbalance in terms of the amount of focus on Oliver when he's the one whose been elbowed in the face. Schofield would've been worthy of a week suspension had it been upheld.

But by the same token, I'm not a fan of staging. Never have been and never will be. I gleefully mock those who do it. Lindsay Thomas is my most hated player purely because of it.

IF this is in that vicinity (and I acknowledge it's an IF), then I can't be a hypocrite and shrug my shoulders. Plus Oliver is way too good to be mucking about with this stuff.

Fair enough. The other part that galls me a bit is the fact that you acknowledge that it's a "big if", but are carping on about it as if it's fact. But that's nothing I haven't already said in this thread a dozen times now, and I'm a fan of yours and appreciate the reasonable middle ground approach to your post, so I don't think I'll keep going over it.

Likewise mate. I was applying benefit of the doubt to begin with but it's lessened. That doesn't mean I'm certain about it, because I'm not. I'm also not just going to disregard his own pleas of innocence.

He's 19 years old and still wet behind the ears at this level. So either way there's no reason to think this will define him. But I am hopeful we won't see another incident that causes focus being taken away from his talent.

It's not without possibility, but it still upsets me though that after all this, the focus is still on how the victim reacted to being punched. It's part of a much broader cultural issue and I thought you would get that. @rpfcdid a good post on this on the very early pages on this thread.

I want to be clear. I give Clarry the benefit of the doubt on the dive, but ultimately it's irrelevant. I don't care if Oliver did a triple backflip with pike - Schofield threw an elbow and got away with it purely because everyone decided they weren't happy with the way the victim of the elbow reacted to it. I reckon it stinks to high heaven.

This.

Close thread.

Heard various media today and the general consensus is that Clarry is a stager with no ifs and buts about it. Apparently a new form of low life.  There is also an expectation as well as anticipation that the Swans will punish him for it tomorrow night and that Schofield is basically a saint. Hope he puts a 40 possession game and sticks it right up them and then tells them to fark off if they want an interview.

The foibles of the Footy Fraternity. Schofield at half time, ten weeks coming up. Sunday, mom to the rescue. We'll find someone who ran into him to say you didn't touch him. Monday/Tuesday by the grace of grace, attack any messenger within the industry( sound familiar).

That's hilarious. And these front runners can't defeat a team they depict like this. Wet Toast are on a fast train to nowhere ( as we saw last week).

Clarry definitely didn't stage. Clearly must be playing concussed tonight

He was on the bench for the first 12 minutes of the game. Oliver has been in and around the contest, but just hasn't been able to get his hands on it. We were getting absolutely smashed in and around the contests before Oliver was even on the ground. I suspect Oliver has nothing to do with why we have been ordinary. He always tries, and tonight he can hold his head high.

He needs to ping for the goals. Petracca is always chasing that goal. Oliver doesn't seem interested in kicking goals. He needs to be damaging forward of centre. He is still a great young player. Oliver's work in and around a contest is up there with the best I have seen, but I think he can push forward - he just isn't. Why he isn't may be something we need to get to the bottom of. Because he is capable of pushing forward and kicking goals.

What is MFCSS?

Melbourne Football Club Supporter Syndrome.

There was an experiment demonstrating MFCSS back in the 1970s, the 'golden days' of psychology (back before there were ethics boards and all that terrible red tape).

They put a dog in a cage with an electrified floor. Periodically they would run a current through the circuit, inflicting pain on the dog. The dog would try to get away from the pain, searching for any spot without current, but it was all painful. The 'researchers' kept repeating the test until the dog gave up trying to get away from the pain, and just remained still and whimpering each time it got blasted. Then they flicked a switch which meant that part of the floor was no longer electrified. But of course the dog had given up searching, so even though safety and relief was literally centimeters away, the dog kept on taking the pain over and over.

MFCSS in a nutshell.

Yes - agree. I was worried when I heard that - but I think it's going to die out.

Thanks heavens.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
