Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

JKH and Wagner in? How's Kennedy tracking in VFL?

Like for like would see Wagner in for Salem and more likely Kent for Garlett...

JKH is not a small forward and whilst I'm not a Kent fan his pace around the forward half would be an advantage if he's switched on.

For JKH to come in he needs a midfield rotation, maybe another option is to use Billy more as a forward and Jay in the mid mix.

OMac can't go with Buddy and although Frost has the speed, I don't think he yet has the ability to go with Buddy either. For mine that means TMac goes back to Buddy. O'Mac to Reid and then Frost can play small given his pace.

Sydney have a relatively short and quick backline so we should hopefully match up on them pretty well.

Maybe Weidemann might come in though?? Kent/JKH/Kennedy can raffle it if not.

Wagner for Salem for mine.

On the MCG I'd bring Wiedemann in as another marking target.

OUT: Garlett, Salem

INS: Kennedy-Harris, Weidemann

I'd play Hannan in the Garlett role, Tom McDonald as a roving CHF, Pedersen as a decoy, and Weideman close to goal. JKH as an accumulating midfielder (none of this small-forward stuff. He's no more a small forward than Jetta is).

Frost on Franklin, with instructions to play a slightly more close-down role. Make him pay on offense if there's an opportunity, but contest every ball delivered to Franklin, who is actually not a great contested mark.

O-Mac on either of Franklin or Reid gives me nightmares.

Weid in, T-Mac to defence and Oscar out for matchups.

Frost on Reid, T-Mac to Franklin and Hibberd to help out in the air.

Salem and Garlett the other two outs for Kent and Wagner.

Probs won't happen, but I'll feel more comfortable if it does.

No Hogan, Watts, Salem, Garlett, Nath Jones? Thats 5 of our top 10 most important players.

I can't see Caseys fwd line kicking enough goals for us to win this.

Far out! We just can't catch a break with injuries at the moment.

Out: Garlett, Salem

In: JKH, Wagner

I think that Kennedy could be a sneaky chance as well but JKH's VFL form of late has been to good to ignore.

Agree, it appears the only two outs are Salem and Garlett.

I'd really like to bring in a small and a tall, given we've got two tall defenders (Frost, OMac), and two tall forwards (TMac, Pedo) and Gawny in the ruck. If we lose a tall during the game, we will lose balance, although I guess Hibbo can play tall if needed and we don't really have any tall stocks in reserve to come in (apologies, Weid, I reckon you still need a stretch in the twos to smash the door down).

So the two in's for me are Wags and Kenty. Bring some forward pressure please Kenty.

PS - love that we're getting our key players right to go for finals and we haven't scheduled any operations to get players right for preseason/next year...

Thanks DC, brain fade. Meant Kenty!

 O. McDonald to Reid

O-Mac is nowhere near quick, agile or aggressive enough in the air to play on Reid.

I really don't see a matchup for Oscar this game. He allowed Petrie to kick a bag.

Petrie is pushing 50.

Wagner to Sam Reid. Oscar to the resting ruck - Sinclair/Nankervis. Or vice versa, with the important thing being Oscar gets in the right position to play a tall to his strengths (reading of the play and work rate) and Wagner can use some bulk and mobility to shepherd the other tall up the ground and hopefully give some run and rebound.

Tom stays forward because ball movement, scoring and forward pressure is going to be our best chance of helping out the backs rather than upgrading the backs themselves.

That said, I'd certainly consider Tom back and Weeds in. And if it was a final I'd probably do that, but with Hoges a week away and both Weeds and Oscar needing continuity and confidence I don't think it's worth changing it up. Oscar might concede 2 more goals than Tom but Tom might get that back up forward (through work rate and effort if not actual goals) over what Weeds would provide.

Petrie is pushing 50.

But was in our best 5 against Collingwood and the Dogs. We just have to hope the aggressive and focused Oscar turns up. Because when he's confident and attacking the ball he's good enough to stop Reid.

I think a lot of the problem against West Coast was that McGovern, Darling and Petrie were moving and swapping well together. They know how to undermine zone defending because their tall backs (ie. McGovern himself, and Barrass) are some of the best at playing it.

Hopefully Sydney don't have that same level of smarts.

could not have put it better. DS ..... who do you suggest in place of Garlett and why would also be very interesting

Haven't watched enough of Casey to tell you whom out of JKH, Kent or Kennedy should be picked.

If he'd just been a bit more consistent and kicked a couple of goals I'd throw DJ in because Garlett's tackling is probably the one thing I'd like to replace the most.

If they pick JKH I'd rather him play on a wing or high half forward and Stretch and ANB are in those spots and I wouldn't move them right now. Kent's the most natural forward but his tackling and pressure is ordinary. Process of elimination I'd lean towards Kennedy.

Thinking a bit out of the box could we bring in both Wagner and Mitch White, roll Vince on to a wing/mid to tag Heeney or Hannebery, and then use Harmes as a pressure forward? Or Hunt goes forward. I don't hate that idea. Even if it makes the backline very young.

I would go with Kent for Garlett . Kent needs to improve on his forward pressure a great deal and on the big stage he will have nowhere to hide and he could go from a list clogger to an integral part in our journey.

We will miss Jeffy with his speed and tackling pressure but Kent provides the closest thing to a replacement with his own speed and long kicking. He's a line breaker and it might just work out against the Swans slow defence.

Wagner and JKH in for mine.

Wagner to the BF would allow Hunt to go forward, as a dynamic line breaker who applies defensive pressure, in Garlett's place. JKH to the mid field would allow Petracca and other mids to spend more time resting forward as well.

I though Weid was awesome first quarter VFL, but faded with the extra attention he got in the second half, still a work in progress. With Tommy Mac and Pedo doing fine in that area, Weid in is not critical, plus, I suspect Maxy might snag a couple this week as well.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
