Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Even if Joel Smith has fully recovered, we are not going to rush in a first year player who has played one quarter in 3 months.  No way.

You're interfering with my glow mono. And I am keen on introducing more potential gems. But, yes, misplaced in the selection thread. More a general question.

No one really thinking Viney won't get up next week is surprising? Garlett was tight which may not surprise after a long flight. I thought Salem was also tightness rather than actual injury? I cant see with Watts coming back this week into our forward line ANB, Melksham and Bugg all playing.

Are you seriously suggesting that if Watts is fit he will be sent to Casey?

If Salem is out,I would like to see White given a go as he still has something to prove.

A lot of fringe players may have something to prove - NOT a good enough reason to get a gig at this very important time of the season.  I would go for Wagner.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hannan is rested, hip can tighten up badly especially with a four hour flight.

if not, then

out: Garlett, Salem

in: Watts, JKH

JKH scares me as he was super terrible when in last but he has excelled at VFL and is perfect to replace Jeffy if his hammy requires rest.

Wagner will play before JKH

On the hamstring issue, broadly there are only two reasons for hamstring pain and tightness. Firstly referral from the low back, which has no time frame on recovery. Could be a day, could be ongoing and frustrating. The other is a tear, of which the severity spectrum is broad, from small and undetectable on MRI or US scan (? Jack Watts), to big rips or avulsions (Max Gawn). For ANY hamstring tear, as minor as they are, it is a mandatory 3 weeks, no exceptions. The reason for this is that statistically the risk of a worse re-tear under 3 weeks is unacceptably high. Hopefully Jack Watts, Salem's and Jeffy's are back related, otherwise they'll follow this management, sadly. If Jack Viney has injured his Acromioclavicular (AC) joint and it's structurally stable (which it must be, as he came back on after a jab), playing relates to being able to play with any pain. Jack won't miss, I'd say.

Interesting that Scott Selwood played this week. I gave him no chance.

Hannan Garlett are doubtfull Watts and Weidermen in. Will see eh . I wouldnt drop anyone but if its injuries thats what will happen I say .

That'll be interesting if Hannan misses. We'll need the other forward, maybe Petracca, plays forward. Then another mid could come in.  Wagner has run. He could help us through the middle.

The danger is getting too tall, & losing some run & pace. Benken could be one in, if we were to lose Garlett's speed.

But the key will be the midfield.  We have to keep up supply.

I can only see forced changes, and fingers crossed, it's only the two:

OUT: Salem, Gartlett.

IN: Watts - assuming he's fit after being close to selection this week.

Wagner - travelling emergency this week, good form in VFL and the coaches love him.  He's a lock IMHO.

I've had hamstring soreness that's gone away within days. Are you saying that was all because of my back?

Out: Salem, Garlett.

in: Wagner(backman/left foot/neat skill), Watts (Goodwin said he would come in).

Potentially out: Viney, Salem, Hannan, Garlett. On top of Hogan, Jones, Watts*

Some luck with injuries wouldn't hurt, but hopefully we get them all back in one go!

With the history Salem has with hamstrings I don't think they'll risk him. 4 weeks sounds right. Back fresh for finals!

Hopefully Jeffy and Hannan pull up and Watts is fit.

I think some fresh legs won't hurt. I thought Stretch was good and he looked full of running in the last, no coincidence. With Casey in good form, do we bring in some fresher legs this week?

I really worry we won't be able to sustain a 4 quarter effort again after another 6 day break plus a long road trip. Players looked absolutely stuffed last night!

Doubt it. The steamroller would probably get a report from the Carlton doctor about permanent damage sustained, and the MRP would give him 3 weeks down to 2 ... :D

gee we are having a rotten run of losing key players at the moment; just hoping viney is right to play, we'll need him against the swans' mids

IN: watts, jkh
OUT: salem, garlett (both hamstring)

B: Jetta - Frost - Hibberd
HB: Hunt - O. McDonald - Lewis
C: Petracca - Tyson - Vince
HF: Hannan - Watts - Melksham
F: Pedersen - T. McDonald - Bugg
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Stretch - Kennedy-Harris - Neal-Bullen - Harmes

watts back will be so important - how many times in the first half in particular did we kick it long to bugg to see if he could outmark a bloke 15cm and 20kg bigger than him? bugg might have not have been as 'busy' as the weeks before, but his willingness to compete and contest as a mid-sized half-forward remains vital for mine - but we really need watts back this week

Can be. Nearly all of my hamstring issues were back related. Once I fixed my back I had 1/4 of the hamstring issues I'd had prior.

Watts a given

JKH next in line midfielder

Kennedy next in line flanker/midfielder

Kent next in line forward

Wagner next in line defender.

Weid next in line key forward.

No point trying to guess who will come out. Too many permutations with the number of players we had injured or sore.

Despite what Goodwin said in his press conference, I've heard a rumour that Hogan is very close to playing this week.

It makes sense.  We have constantly talked about how we have prepared for this run of 6 day breaks.  He could play this Friday night, then have an 8 day break until the Carlton game.

The reports of his hour-long (or so) individual training session on Friday sounded that it was quite intense.  From the brief footage they showed, he looked pretty sharp too.

And to top it off, it's Friday night footy.  Hoges loves the big stage.  Time to unleash him.

Garlett has played a couple of times in the past after looking like he was going to be out for multiple weeks, so given he was still running (albeit restricted) at the end of the game I think he's a reasonable chance to come up. Don't think Salem's was particularly bad either but he'll miss, but hopefully only 1 or 2 games.

Garlett will be vital against the Swans and how they load up from the backline, I'd suspect Kent might get a run if he is out, he'll be told just to pressure everything and stop their run out of the backline.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
