My dad accosted him at Woolies a few weeks ago after the Crows win and Dom said that he is very aware how much competition for spots there is in the team and that players are still told the 'Roos Baseline' (my term, not his) of toughness, tackling, and pressure will get you games.

MT64, you're mixing two games up, - if I recollect correctly.

The game where Garland was moved forward was in 2012. It was against the Bombers alright and we won. In fact I think it was  the first win of Neeld's tenure. Garland only kicked two goals, but he was a match winner in a very low scoring game. This though was well past the so-called tanking years.

The tanking accusations involved a game in 2009 against Carlton. Bails moved Jamar forward and for this move, the club was accused of tanking. Never mind the fact that he kicked 5 goals.

We were really crucified with that tanking rubbish when Demetriou went on leave and whats-his- name? took the opportunity to initiate an investigation against us, but ignored what other clubs had done.

My incredulity led me to a little research on the interwebs. It seems Basil was an injury-prone flash-in-the-pan for West Perth in the WAFL in the late 80s/early 90s. Went to some talent camp hosted by Mick Malthouse and didn't get a look in. 

An interesting tidbit on his blossoming media career (courtesy Wikipedia):

"In his first year at Seven, Zempilas was awarded “Best News Story” at the annual Western Australia Football Media Guild Awards for his coverage of the Melbourne Football Club being thrown out of a West Coast Eagles closed training session."

It really bothers me that those of us with half a football brain have far more knowledge of our game than these two-bit hacks leading the commentary on the national TV broadcast. AT THE VERY LEAST GET PLAYERS NAMES CORRECT. 

And then of course the condescending and inane verbal diarrhoea of BT, Bruce, etc. 

Surely this calls for a boycott/revolution/coup d'état/bloody uprising from the AFL supporters community. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Wow, what a game! What a difference three years makes. Some posters might recall a long post of mine after we were flogged by the Eagles in 2014 and how my son spent the whole walk back to the car and half the car trip home in inconsolable tears.

Fast forward to last night and the little fella (now 9) finally gets to see his beloved Demons get the choccies over here in the west. First win I've seen over here since the last round in 2000 when we were on a hot winning streak towards a GF berth. 

What a win! To come back from where we were late in the 4th was inspirational. Hats off to all of them but especially Tommy, big Max, and captain Jack. Loved ANB's game and Bernie's, and Nev's... loved them all. 

Was seated in amongst the Melbourne allocation behind the goals at the opposite end to where Tommy kicked that goal and the reaction among our fans when it went through... We'll that's why people go to the footy. It was pure unadulterated joy and jubilation, a type of group ecstacy the likes of which I've never before experienced. Strangers bound together by their love and passion for a football club hugging each other, high fiving, screaming for joy at the final siren and then belting out a rousing rendition of Grand Old Flag. It's a night that i hope I'll never forget. A memory that I will always cherish, thank you MFC!!

Just wanted to give a shout out to the bloke who was sat next to us who had  flown across the country to attend the game. Had a great time spending a couple of hours talking footy and barracking for the Dees with ya mate. Hope to catch you around the forum some time.

So.

In 2000, the Essendon Football Club, IMO the best all-round team to ever take the field (AFL), lost an infamous flood-fest to the Bulldogs 81-92 as their sole blemish on an almost perfect season.

Outside of this, are we on track for the most competitive, attacking season in AFL history?

Our biggest losing margin stands at 29 - round 3 with all the injury and inaccuracy caveats v Geelong. Our lowest score for the season: 75 (also subject to injury, where we didn't kick a goal in the last). Average losing margin is 12 points, skewed by the above. And we've also still been within a goal in every fourth-quarter for he season. Can anyone genuinely stop us, even with our makeshift attack?

2011 Collingwood were tonked by Geelong in a final-round tactical masterclass.

1995 Carlton copped some bizarre floggings in the middle of the season.

Has anyone else been this consistent in a season with an attacking mind-set?

I'm still in awe of Vineys game yesterday. One of the best individual performances I've seen from a melbourne player, ever

Confessions of a bandwagoner...

I'm a born and bred Western Australian. I was never a big AFL fan, but obviously growing up in this state you can't help but have some interest or background knowledge of the sport as it dominates the news cycle.

My wife is a proud Victorian, a lifelong supporter of the Melbourne Football Club. The year was 2014 and after a couple beers with a mate, I took it upon myself to adopt a club and try get a bit more interested in the sport of AFL. I had just heard that Paul Roos had become coach of the MFC and given the natural link through my wife, I decided that I would adopt the Dees as my club and jokingly at the time call myself a Dees bandwagon supporter.

I had heard of the dark years, and the big 100+ point losses that lifelong, diehard MFC fans have had to endure over the years. I definitely copped my fair share of flak about signing up to support a club with such a dark history, but I didn't care.

I spent the first two years taking a crash course in the clubs history, learning the club song, trying to remember all the players names on the list and watching as many Dees games as I could on TV from the West. By 2016 I was so hooked I signed up for an MFC membership, now into my second year as a member.

On Saturday night at Domain Stadium, I attended my first ever Dees match. I was well aware of the drought in Perth, the past results, and went into the game with extremely low expectations. Nevertheless, I was there proudly sporting the red and the blue amongst a vast sea of yellow and blue. Cheering and screaming for the boys amongst the evil stares and curious glances of the local faithful, but that didn't faze me.

Come the last quarter, Tom McDonald slotting a miracle goal to put us ahead, I jumped out of my chair screaming and yelling at the top of my voice in the background of dead silence and doom around me. Then the full time siren went, I've never belted out the team song with as much gusto as I did that night. The sheer buzz and exhilaration of the win, the complete strangers in red and blue celebrating together was an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life.

Not bad for the first live MFC game. Fair to say, this bandwagoner is now a MFC fan for life.

It would have been interesting (and possibly heartbreaking) had a Eagle marked at that time and in that position.  Imagine the umpire's fear of lynching had he not 'failed to hear the siren)?

There have been a few here talking about what led to them supporting the Demons, so I thought I'd throw in mine.

I was an insane Fitzroy supporter and took my kids every week. I, reluctantly, transferred my support to the Lions and did enjoy the ride. Then one of my sons got a job with the Demons (I won't embarrass him by saying which one), later joined by his younger brother (since left for greener pastures). I was watching a Demons vs Lions match one day, and found myself hoping the Dees win as it would be good for the boys. That's when I adopted the team.

So, like most, have experienced a heap of downs, but am now genuinely excited.

For me, the lid is not only off, its orbiting the moon.

Does anyone know the rule to where the mark should be placed if the ball is taken in the air whilst the player is on the move? Should it come back to where the ball was grabbed, or should it be from where the person lands, or where they end up if they fall to the ground?

Just wondering as in Q4 Pedersen was made to kick from where he ended up on the ground after he marked the ball against Mitchell in the air with momentum. It made a difference to the angle of the kick and he kicked a behind to make it 93-96. It didn't matter in the end but I noticed it whilst watching the replay
