Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That West Coast team looks woeful, on paper at least.

Woeful enough to have 3 emergencies who are regulars. Other than the injured Kennedy and Nic Nat who has been out all year and the out of form Le Cras they are all there.

West coast will be lucky to make the 8. They are slow, old and predictable.

Their last quarters are have dreadful and have only one 3 from 12. Dees will overrun them in the last even if we are a couple of goals down

Contested possessions is a pretty silly stat to pick someone on.

Hardball gets? Yes.  But a loose, bouncing ball in 25 m space away from opposition and an in and under clearance handball are both considered a "contested" ball according to champion data.

I'm not really sure of the skill set of the Match Committee, but I'd be extremely surprised if they chose players purely based on stats.

Due to an 'oversight' I missed the MFC interstate member allocation of seats but thankfully I've got my mates Eagles members seats for tomorrow night so I'm desperately hoping we win. Sitting right in the thick of the some of the worst supporters in the league, challenging every single free kick they get and roaring like a demented fool at every goal we kick (I'll wait until we're in the clear) will be so thouroughly therapeutic.

I'm pumped and feeling very confident that our best footy is clearly better than the Eagles.

Not sure what to think of this game. Like Adelaide I think West Coast's credentials are grossly overstated. I see that we're more likely to lose than win but gee a win over there with Jones, Watts and Hogan out would have us in serious flag contention.

We've got the best possible ins from the list of available players, but gee those outs hurt. I'm very pleased we are picking the best available, rather than looking at a certain type of player (eg Weideman to replace Watts).

We can win if we play with the same attitude and intensity that we showed against the Dogs, but not if we drop off for a period as we did against Collingwood. Hopefully the umpires don't influence the result of the game, as has clearly been the case in previous trips west.

And... while I know this is frowned upon by some here... if we're comfortably up with 10 to go, a rousing rendition of "a grand old flag" could be appropriate..?

I wasnt suggesting that was the case and as per DD other stats like clearances are important.

Im just surprised how often contested balls get thrown around as a valuable indicator of performance or toughness.

I knew you weren't suggesting it. But I couldn't help myself.

I love to look at stats even though I know that they are subject to a myriad of interpretations. For example, should we all be worried that we haven't won a game without Nathan Jones playing for nearly 5 years?

Looking forward to Viney running straight past the ball and cleaning up Shuey with a shoulder bone to the head.

Agreed. But then watch him get 3 weeks, appeal it, and then get the rest of the season because he plays for Melbourne.....

Meanwhile Joel Selwood knocks out Nat Fyfe with a fly-kick to the head before the opening bounce and receives a $20 fine.

Glad to see Stretchy back in. I thought it was a mistake when he was dropped...but then we started winning a whole bunch, so I guess the moral of the story is that the football department knows what its doing

But can the football department know more the luminaries on Demonland ?? What we actually know is frightening  !!

I'm not sure If I'm prepared for the possibility of being a top four side yet, even if we win.

Some sinister part of me almost misses the days when we played James Sellar at full forward and we'd be relatively satisfied if we stayed within five goals.

I think one of the great things about the win against the Bulldogs, thus what holds us in good stead for this week and ongoing, is that we are able to get ahead, and stay ahead (against a damn fine team) - that was a completely different style of win to the rest of the year - personally, its a sign of growing maturity, and capacity. Belief, confidence et al, fluctuates dramatically in games, there is no better evidence for competence, than competence. This team of young skilled dudes is really really coming together, guided by the leadership of the players on the ground and the FD.

Prediction, Melbourne by 20 points.

With the evenness of this season each week is of significance, a loss has you tumble far and win inches you closer to September.

Only two of our games for the remainder of the season are with teams now out of contention (Lions and North) and North stitched us up last time we played them.

Imperative we keep winning, to keep the pack at our back. Ladder pressure within this season will help.

Not a problem. We've spent more time I  the top 8 in the first half of this season than we had in the previous 10 seasons collectively.

We've got this ;)

I think it just highlights the structural imbalance we would have had.

And still will in coming weeks.

Having Gawn back is a huge bonus. However with Jones and Watts out there is huge loss in talent and experience. Eagles have their problems as well so it will be even but Jones and Watts are huge losses.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
