Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Ladder

Round 12, 2006 (5th) was the last time we were this high on the ladder at this point in the season.

We were even higher at round 12 in 2005 (2nd) and Round 12 2004 (3rd).

Neale Daniher was such a fantastic coach, we really should have won a flag or two in his reign.

We had two things go against us:

1. Most dominant team performance maybe ever by Essendon in 2000. Nobody would have beaten them that year, but I think had we played someone else we would have won

2. We were always a little short of stars / match winners. Yes we had Ox and Farmer and TJ, but they were all very inconsistent.

I think we are now finally building a team that has enough "difference" players in it who will really stand up and deliver in finals, like Oliver, like Trac, like Hogan, like Gawn. Here is hoping for some sustained success for the next 5 years!!!

In the 10 years 2007 till 2016 we were only in the 8, six times!!

So far this year we have been in the 8, seven times. Sorta says something doesn't it.

Jaded - Unsure if you're saying we have players who can make a difference or we have players with different qualities. We probably have both just look at our forward line

Garlett - Electric pace

Hogan - Contested marking beast

Petracca - Massive core and vertical leap, lightning quick reflexes

Hannan - High flying mark, kicks goals from anywhere

Watts -  Best kick in the side can go back and stop a goal when momentum is against us

Bugg / ANB / Rotation - the ultimate surprise

I only care where we are at the end of Round 23. 5th at Round 13 doesn't really count if we are outside the 8 come September.

This year feels different. Smells different too.

If you said to me at the beginning of the year who are the 2 players we can least afford to lose I would have said Gawn and Hogan.

There is no dominant team this year you have to be in it to win it.

The game style of being the number 1 pressure side in the comp has a lot to do with it. That is a team working together. Then there is the ability to capitalise on that with turnover goals. We are very familiar with how deflating that is.

The thing I like about being a good pressure side is that its hard to  coach against. It also depends on US as to how much effort and intensity we bring to the game.

You are not alone there. I hope that once Jesse returns we don't become too Hogan-centric and continue to find the other avenues to scoring that have seen us through the past few months.

Just had the same conversation with my old man. We have to be better with Hogan in the team but it will take some adjusting and he needs to buy in on the frenetic pressure.

It does. It tells me that if this team played the other team of the last decade our percentage would be better.

Thanks for your responses.Regarding Neale Daniher : how long did he coach us for,why did he leave  and who did he coach after us?

He coached us for 10 years from memory, and never went on to coach anyone else, but was an assistant at West Coast until he got diagnosed with MND.

He left because we weren't performing and our board thought it would be a good idea to hire a whole bunch of inexperienced coaches and spend the next 8 years being a miserable laughing stock (but seriously, we were struggling, the bulk of our senior players were retiring and it was time for a fresh start)

Seems like just the other day.

Against the odds we won against Hawthorn but as on on that day and in the previous two or three games we had suffered injuries thus depleting the team. We were the walking wounded. Mind you at that stage we were still 12 and 4 including a loss in the opening round so it had been a good run until then.

Lost the next week to Port by over 70 points and also lost the last 3 games of the home and away..... got beaten by 3 points by the Bombers in a elimination final.

wonder when someone is going to post about the best way to secure tickets for the GF?

Have always worked on the principle that if it ever happens I will just buy one. As it has only happened twice in 50 years I think I am well ahead against buying the guaranteed ticket.

In the old days people used to buy Fitzroy memberships because they rarely exhausted their allocation for finals tickets. Wonder if that would work these days with GWS memberships.

Seems to me that we have still bombed into the foward line quite regularly and backed either a crumb or storage.

So with Hogan back the only thing that will change is Hogan will be in that contest which definately won't hurt

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
