Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

JACK WATTS INJURY NEWS

MELBOURNE forward Jack Watts looks certain to miss Saturday's clash with West Coast in Perth after failing to complete training this morning.

Battling a hamstring complaint, Watts left the track early after completing only some light running.
He was seen hunched over speaking to staff before leaving the field.

Demons coach Simon Goodwin had told media this morning Watts had to complete full training today to be picked to take on the Eagles.

"We're in this period of six day breaks where if anyone's sore we won't take any risks on them," Goodwin said before training.

"So he'll have to train fully today but we do expect Jack to be able to do that and get on the flight later today."

Frost is an athletic straight line runner.  While he's not the worst big man on a small, it's far from ideal.

As for Kennedy ?  They beat Geelong without him.  Geelong had Hawkins out, so that squared the ledger.  At least we've grown accustomed to not having Hogan.

As usual, the game will be won in the midfield.  Out-tackle them with the same pressure game as last week then we can win.

On the weekend against Geelong, West Coast had virtually identical CP and disposals and Geelong won the clearances and centre clearances, but importantly, West Coast had 93 tackles (19 more) and 16 more inside 50's (59 to 43).  Put the brakes on Dangerwood and you're a long way to winning.  They'll always get their clearances, but in general midfield play West Coast were on top.

Tellingly, Geelong had more handballs than kicks, which is a recipe for a loss, while West Coast had a far better balance.

So in essence, West Coast out-pressured Geelong, Geelong then overused it by hand, and West Coast were more direct with 16 more inside 50's.  The imbalance in inside 50's led to West Coast having 8 more scoring shots, which will usually be the difference.

If we drop off on the pressure stakes we lose.

Completely agree with this,

Remember the JLT game against these blokes?  They looked like they were trialing a new handball happy game style.  IF they try that against the same pressure we applied last week I think we will do the same to them as we did to the WB. However if we drop the pressure even slightly and they play more direct I suspect we will get our pants pulled down and the reptile Jack Darling will kick a bag.  As you said, drop off the pressure stakes we lose, and lose easily.  Gees it will be hot early, I can't wait for this game!

Watts a big out but Pedo to play his role shouldn't be too bad, very interested who comes in for Jones.  JKH and Stretch the most likely for mine.

Go dees!

I am staggered at the suggestion of bringing in JKH for Jones. I don't think you could find two more different players. What does JKH offer? Be honest...he isn't as fast as what people think...he drops easy chest marks...makes horrendous decisions with his ball use and ...and... is one of the great squibs I have seen run out for our team. Right up there with Cale Morton. This is a super important game, and this bloke has shown several times that he doesn't have the work ethic and a committed attitude to cut it at AFL level. It's a massive NO from me. Rather get Wagner in and release Lewis or Vince into the middle to scrap and fight like Jones does.

Well champ, I have watched JKH play last couple of VFL games, including one where he was the holdover and only played half a game

So honestly he did all the things you suggested he is incapable of and was praised by both Justin Plapp, the Casey coach, not only for his play but also the atttitude he is bringing, also spoke to Macca about him who said same thing, so honestly again, think Goodwin will listen to those 2 rather than you in tegards to JKH getting a game at AFL level again

I also know one of the ins, which I am not willing to share before official announcement

I would be staggered if he wasn't the replacement for Jones.

He has been blitzing it at VFL as midfielder which is what is he is. Never has been and never will be a small forward.

I have no idea whether he will or won't make it at senior level. But we need a midfield replacement for Jones and JKH has more than put his hand up for that role.

Same old condescending rubbish. It's getting boring Saty.

I see the same things in JKH that Leoncelli_36 does. How about you let posters have an opinion, I understand you're 'one of the lads' at training, but try not to take it so personally when a poster provides his/her thoughts on one of your pals.

There's plenty of players who kill it at VFL level but for whatever reason can't manage to make that step.

i'd consider JKH in to rest someone given the 6 day breaks.

Yep. Doubling up on commentary a bit but Salem replaces Jones in the middle, Wagner replaced Salem at half back, Gawn replaces TMac in the ruck and TMac replaces Watts.

Gawn goes forward, TMac to the ruck as plan "B". Pedersen to the ruck as plan "C". Good chance all plans will be used with such a makeshift forward line.

Too many talls problems defered for a week.

The point is that JKH hasn't killed at VFL like he has been of late and hasn't had a full time role in the VFL as an onballer.

As I said before , not sure if he will make an AFL footballer but he is great VFL form playing in the position he is best suited to and then is an opening in the team for that very role.

If the noise sources earlier in the week on Hibbo being 50/50 to get up are accurate, then that would be three players in the top 5 Demonland players for the year not playing in this game (if he doesn't).

Of course, Max would be one of those players if he'd played all year.

Hope pig gets up.

I think Gawn and Wagner in. Watts and jones out. Pedo to replace Watts. Wagner to free up Lewis/Vince/Salem to cover Jones' role.

Wish it was trenners.

JKH has been beset by injury. He was brought in underdone last time. His form at Casey has been first class. I suspect ANB will play more of the Jones role and vice versa for JKH.Think you're really tough on a young bloke that has had an extremely rough passage.

And once again the thread descends into Saty-bashing. Give it a rest.

At least Saty (a) makes the effort to go to training and (b) posts on Demonland so we know what he's seen. Whether we like what he says or not, surely those opinions can be withheld.

It's been said before...if you don't like what he posts you can always place him on Ignore.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
