Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

huge game with a massive fillip for the winner either way

pressure is all on the dogs to perform

can't wait for the game, shame it's at docklands!

Dogs play a similar game to us. I suspect the lack of space (relative to the MCG) will favour us in the sense that the Dogs defence is probably superior to ours and the lack of space will help us to close down that space.

Very important that our small forwards fire.

Dogs play Etihad better than anyone. I reckon it'll be a tough game. The boys have to be 100% on. They were rusty last week due to the bye but came back strong. I predict a very solid hit out and a 5 goal win ?

We play Etihad as well as anyone.  Funny we know say that but its a sign of what Goody likes to say about the past and this group being on its own journey (as much as i don't like that term). Game will be won on who can run it out better and applies that most pressure. Interesting game the coaches are from the same mould. I hope we are hungry for the win. What I love these days is as supporters we go into game with a real expectations and the game is never lost. 30 points down means nothing we can still win. I bet next year we have less graveyard shift games. Why seven would not broadcast this is beyond belief, we have been involved in some of the best games this year.

Really looking forward to this game.  Regardless of their form, the Dogs are tough opposition and will smack us around on their home turf if we don't play at our best.

The thing that has me excited for this game is that, right now, I believe our best footy is better than theirs.  If we get our running game going and we are breaking even around the clearances then we can easily kick a score that can win this game.  Our diversity up forward has held us in good stead to this point and there is no reason why this can't continue.

Dees by 20 points.

Jim, I see it the polar opposite.  I think the Dogs defence is a large chunk of their current problem.  Boyd out of form and dropped, Suckling lucky to stay in, Murphy and Adams injured (and Morris only back in today).   Biggs very ordinary and Johannisen shown up last week for his soft underbelly and now under huge pressure to stand up.  Wood is the only consistent performer in recent times.

Level 3 unfortunately.

The difference between a win and a loss today is enormous.

This isn't about top 4 though, as (incredulously) realistic that is. It's about top 8. A win today puts us 7-5, 5th on the ladder with a useful percentage gap between us and the 6-6 sides. We get our tail up before heading over to Perth.

A loss puts us back in the 6-6 quagmire with that trip to Perth next week and gives the Dogs, one of our direct competitors for ladder spots, an extra win.

These 8 point games are crucial to our season and this is now our third of them in a row, with another two to come straight after (and the way Carlton is going, there could be another one after that!). There is so little respite for us given what we are trying to achieve this season and how many other sides are in the same boat.

The Dogs have been under the pump for the last 10 days and I get the feeling they've set themselves for this one, but they're going in with a chopped and changed line up and, although they are undefeated at Etihad, we have played some of our best football there this year.

I'd love to see us start well and get on top early but without a ruckman I wouldn't be surprised at all if we fall behind early whilst trying to learn how to set up at stoppages and read Roughead and their mids. But if we do fall behind, we should all be confident of a comeback given it's happened in every game we've gone behind in.

Just looking at the quarters won statistic: the Dogs are the equal-worst starting side this year, having only won 3 first quarters (level with Fremantle) whilst we've won 5.

We've won 26 (puts us 4th but obviously with a game in hand on the other 16 sides) with them winning 22 (10th).

Agree with this. It's. It about top 4, but top 8. Win, and we stay in the 8 and one step ahead of the 6-6 group. Lose and we fall back into the pack and could drop well out of the 8 in a fortnight. We need to win today to keep our top 8 chances achievable and knock off our direct competitors for the spot. 8 point game today. Worry about top 4 when we have built consistency and have a few more wins under our belt.

Go Dees!

Got my 2yo girls to mind this arvo. Let's see if they have the attention span to commit to four quarters of footy.

Now there's an idea....

Run 'em ragged for a couple of hours before game time.  Park, playground, back yard whatever, just keep them moving and entertained. They will be out like like lights at first bounce. Worked like a charm for me when I had multiple babysitting duties albeit 35 years ago!

Sucks when you get commentary that is negative and incorrect ( malthouse on garlett - jeffys killing them for pressure acts number 1  in the league)

i reckon a few on demonland could hold fire when we are down today in the matchday thread . Just saying .

Wood is our biggest headache, though.

If he's not properly attended to, and just roams half-back taking intercept marks as he pleases, we'll lose.

He's as dangerous to us, if not more so, than Johannisen.

Edit: Someone has grabbed them

Super late notice but I had to pull out of going today at the last minute, would anyone want 2 tickets to medallion club seats? Would just have to come pick them up in the Brighton area. Free of course

Spot on, titan.  We can't kick it long to a contest like we did last week with Howe, who just picked everything off with ease.  We did it in the second term, but the moment we lowered our eyes in the second half we took him out of the game.  Hopefully we have learned from that and we don't allow Wood to dictate terms.

A win today is so big that we could lose to WC next week and id still be very confident of making finals.

A loss today and wed still be in the 8, so its not wrist slitting time.

Nevertheless, we will win.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
