Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Casey Demons v Footscray VFL

The early vibe on Corey Maynard is reminiscent of the steady growing buzz on J. Hunt (post-injury) and J. Smith from track-watchers. Have we found something here? And the starting five of the Melbourne Demons social basketball team is surely the best in the league now, right?

JKH will get another chance next week or the week after and so will a couple of others (Stretch, Wagner, Kent and maybe Trengove).  The back to back to back 6 day breaks and a long road trip will ensure this is the case.  Am amazed if all the Dogs' emergencies in fact played.

We clearly will need fresh legs in the next weeks with the 6 day breaks and Perth trip.

I would bring in players like JKH, Billy and Wagner next week to give us some run. Eagles are hard to beat over there and maybe some fresh run and desire to stay in the team may help. We will need some fresh players again for the Swans game, so resting some is the way to go.

We may have found another player in Maynard though he is not a youngster.

I see young Mitch Cox got a late goal. He went to school with my kids - can anyone tell me how he went? He missed the draft last year or year before and he is desperate to get listed with some AFL club.

Yes, it's all over and the Demons win by the lucky number 13 points. That makes it four wins in a row.

Did Spencer play? Looks like Kent did bugger all because i have not sern his name mention

Spencer played, he did well in the ruck but it wasn't a good night for talls as the ground was wet. As for Kent, he was there but didn't see him do much although I could only see half the game due to it being Casey Fields combined with the fog and the smoke from the bacon and eggs.

Not sure, from memory Mitch was a Hawthorn supporter, but don't know his family well.

I'm gonna need you to expand please. From who. What buzz. What exactly are they saying. What tone of voice did they use when they said it.

Is the comparison to do with pace/style? Or more just the level of excitement?

YILBER DABBA DO by Ice Station

In a tight contest played on a cold night and in slippery conditions when the lead never stretched beyond the final 13 point margin, a little known Casey footballer was one of only two on the ground to score multiple goals. It was journeyman Yilber Zijai's three goals that made all the difference in the VFL 2016 grand final replay against Footscray to make it four wins in a row for the rapidly rising  Demons at Casey Fields on Saturday night.

Zijai who previously played 27 VFL games for the Sandringham Zebras over a four-year period moved to Eastern FL club Noble Park last year and was recruited to the Demons along with the returning Mitch Gent at the start of this year. He injured a calf in the opening match of the season and this was only his second senior game for the club. His third goal, kicked at the fourteen minute mark of the final term, helped break the deadlock between the teams in a tense period of play. Seven minutes later, first gamer Mitch Cox made the game safe for the home side with a goal after a fifty metre penalty.

It was a fine effort because the Doggies had 16 AFL-listed players while Casey's team was a far cry from the one that won the minor premiership and contested last year's finals. Gone are the likes of Lynden Dunn, Jack Grimes, Matt Jones, Viv Michie, Ben Newton, and Dean Terlich while Colin Garland is out injured and some of the younger players are now at AFL level.

The Demons did gain from some significant contributions of players on the cusp of an AFL recall, especially given the circumstances of the club's multiple six day breaks at this time. Jack Trengove is one "veteran" of last year's campaign who continues to provide inspirational leadership. His 29 disposals through the middle were huge. Jay Kennedy-Harris was again impressive with his work rate continuing a superb run of form in recent weeks. He was on from the beginning, kicked the game's opening goal and amassed 33 disposals and nine tackles. Billy Stretch was in fine touch and all class with 24 possessions and Josh Wagner also put his hand up for recall.

Rookie Corey Maynard looks a likely type who has made great strides in the transition from NBA to VFL. On current form, further promotion beckons at some time in the future while James Munro was once again solid and prolific in his ballwinning efforts.

Now holding down sixth place on the ladder, Casey faces a challenging encounter with top-of-the-ladder Box Hill Hawks away from home next Saturday afternoon, especially given the likelihood of some players being rested in a rotation to cover Melbourne's interstate trip of a second six-day break. The game will be telecast by Channel 7.

Level of cautious excitement re. the trajectory of development and potential. Just the word on here and elsewhere from track-watchers. The momentum gathered pretty quickly on here toward the end of last year for Joel Smith from many quarters and they were spot-on, with Joel a surprise inclusion in round. 1. Early training reports on Corey were solid and he's been slowly backing that up in the VFL.

So who do you think would make our social basketball team?

Went on Saturday and was extremely pleased with the Casey performance, best game of VFL footy of the year and was a high quality contest all night which was as close to an AFL game intensity that you will get.

JKH - Was great in tight at the contest, he is playing as an inside mid where he is racking up the possessions  Bit like ANB last year where he struggled when asked to change his role when promoted to AFL, not a big runner so Subiaco might not suit this week.

Spencer -   When he was in the ruck we had the upper hand in the clearances, struggled to impact the game outside the clearances though.

King - When in the ruck against Tom Campbell was taught a lesson, he got his hands to a couple of big pack marks that would have turned his OK game to a good game if he had managed to hold them.  Building and happy with progress overall.

White - Another great game from Mitch, plays well in the zone defense scheme and has a weapon with his left foot kicks.  There is no spot for him at the moment with our half backs playing well,  but I would be very comfortable in being brought into the AFL team.

Wagner - Another solid game with moments of class, Casey have 2 AFL quality half backs which one of the reasons the Casey have now 4 in a row.

Maynard -  Playing very well and consistently every week only interrupted by his concussion, playing purely as a inside mid which is a very competitive spot on the senior list.  Might need to find some other positions to have a crack a game in the AFL in the short term.

Johnstone - Struggled to have much impact after pushing onto the wing, when he did get the ball he produced some classy moments and put some signature pressure on the opposition.

Stretch - Loved that he was able to showcase some of his class in contested situations, chance to come in from the performance.

Trengrove - Loved his work across half back, great decision maker and a beautiful kick.    He plays like a coach on the field, always following the team instructions on how the team wants to play.  He is playing like he has full confidence with his body this year, when he was selected the same time last year he was still a but unsure but deserves a shot soon.

Weiderman -  Struggled to have a big impact on the game, didn't make the most of his opportunities when he did get a chance to hit the scoreboard.  I Like it when he pushes up the field to get himself as involved, classy user of the ball.

Hullett - Kicked an early goal but struggled against an solid Dogs backline.

Kielty - Played across the backline and was OK, would like Dec to settle back for a while to regain some of the form from last year.

Kent - Busy with little impact, seems like he is just trying too hard sometimes.   Plays better in the AFL where there is more space to run into but his lack of tackles and pressure acts is probably costing him a game.

Fritsch - The only tall Casey forward that looked dangerous on the night, looking confident and has a great left foot kick.  No doubt the AFL scouts I keep seeing at Casey games will be keeping a close eye on his progress.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
