Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No, Champion Data are the ones that take their own data out of context.

I'm happy to see stats and I fully understand that they are about what has happened...

...but Champion Data like to think they can use their stats to predict what will happen and that's where they get themselves into trouble.

Last years premiership is a prime example.

Their crystal ball is no better than the next mans.

It was an off season page filler based on the stats from 2016.

Meh....

Check out Hibberds game saving spoil with 1:40 left.  If he didnt get a fist on that, De Goey would have been lining up to give them the lead and possibly the match.

The spoil went to O Mac, who kicked along the ground to Harmes, who kicked to Watts in space.. and the rest is history.

Hibberd has been fantastic all year. What a steal

We were watching the game from the nose bleed section in the Members. You could see absolutely everything.

The game was completely in the balance. Time was running out. 71,000 people had their hearts in their mouths.

Harmes kicks it long to a player in space. It was to Watts who had sprinted from the CBD to run onto the bouncing ball on the wing. The rest played out in agonising slow motion.

Watts, with ball in hand, laconically moved into the forward 50 looking for pass options. Jones was on. Bugg was on. Not sure he saw either of them. Garlett was in the goal square but was well covered. Watts was on a tight angle. And yet he kept inching towards the goal square, almost begging for a Pie player to approach him so he could give it off.

And then he seemed to realise that it was he who had to do it. He had to kick the winner. At that moment, he seemed to slow down, focus on the goal, and steady himself. It was like the bomber in the Dam Busters knowing that he had just one attempt and he simply had to hit the target. Civilisation depended on it.

And he nailed it!

A truly seminal moment in his career. A truly memorable footy moment for the rest of us.

I still get nervous watching it on replay, which I have about 350 times.

Great post. I so wish i was there. Such moments are what make going to games so special. the noise on TV was unbelievable it must have been off the scale at the ground.

A couple of things. In this video he said he looked for the options to cross to a an open dees player (of course he did!) but their defenders were shutting down the space (which you can see on the replay). In any case going for goals was the percentage play as he would have to have hit that target who in turn would have had to kick the goal - and one of the options was Bugg (ye gads)

The second thing is that i don't reckon he was 'begging for a Pie player to approach him so he could give it off'or that he had a sudden realisation that 'it was he who had to do it. He had to kick the winner'. i reckon he wanted the pressure, wanted to to be the player to kick the winner. Just as he did against GC last year. Goody said as much in his post game presser

That statement just flawed me. It makes you seriously question the knowledge of these guys especially as you say Howe made a big thing about how Buckley said he could play forward as against Roos playing him down back as the big reason for leaving Melbourne.

Takes the marks which looks great on TV but as we know with our own Oscar Mc it is what you do then that is most important. Would be interested to know his disposal efficiency over the years. Anyway.. wish him well in all games except against us !!

they're hopeless.. on radio and tv. as long the commentators get to ask gawn *zany* questions about his beard ? the old players still have no respect for us. but it'll come. once we're entrenched in the 8 year after year, they'll know alllll about us!

Can we just talk about Hannan in that final quarter? He collided solidly with Dunn (who came up second best) and was up three seconds later tackling Jack Crisp?

We've found one here.

A great spectacle, very entertaining, and a close ending which we didn't fluff. Another step forward.

The umps didn't win it for us. They missed plenty all game, both ways.

We were misfiring on one cylinder in the first half. Close to slick champagne football, but ball handling just off. Picked it up big time in the third and C'wood's fell off. Last quarter they were tired, but so were we otherwise we would have run over them.

And who else to seal it but Jack? The universe is smiling.

I think that's about as well as C'wood can play whereas we have room to improve. I expect C'wood to fall away in the rest of the season due to the difficulty in maintaining their high intensity style. (They must work on their anunitotion if they are to challenge for the 8.)

Next 3 weeks will be testing, not just because of the 6 day breaks. We have a bunch of players carrying injuries.

Has to be said: Oscar was good. Looked slow and out of it in the first half; he really showed something in the second that he has rarely shown this year. His composure and judgement were like a 150-gamer. Well done Oscar. Maybe he'll be the good McDonald?

Pedo is a natural forward and Tom should only be sent there as an emergency measure.

Lewis looked complacent. Winning 4 flags and coming to us like the second coming of Christ does not mean you don't have to put in. No one can live on reputation forever.

I think he will be the Other Good McDonald!!!

Yes, I completely lost my s#!t when he kicked that goal, everyone around me lost it. A really great moment.

My little transistor radio flew out of my hands in that moment of jubilation and I had to go find it in the stands afterwards.

Up there with one of the best moments I've watched at the MCG in recent years.

He's a bit like Hunt in that he's tougher than he looks like he should be. He hits the ball at full speed, even if there are players in the way, and gets up for a second effort every time.

He was a liability first half, but had a ver good second half. I think he panicked with the occasion and the pressure.

Hibberd has been immense and was again fantastic. He and Salem are our two best field kickers in the team, where everyone else blazes away and bombs it long (in the two Macs cases I don't mind) they will take the extra quarter second, sum up a situation and hit a target. I would actually prefer Hibberd taking kick outs than Vince.

Just on kick outs, was it me or did the Pies seemed to get the ball out really easily from our behinds? I know they had more tall timbre but I'm talking uncontested marks outside the 50m. Shouldn't be that simple.

Some people need to watch the game again. Which of our players didn't panic in the first half under the pies pressure and make mistakes. Omac was great for 4 quarters.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
