Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought we had a good run from the umps personally. Couldn't give a [censored] though, suck eggs Collingwood.

I have watched my fair share of games where I thought the umps cost us the game, such as vs North in Tassie last year, so I'm not complaining about today.

Nope.  I saw one clear error in our favour.  That was the HOB awarded to hunt.  Otherwise, thought the umpiring was pretty even, and consistent.  When we get the rough end of the pineapple continuously, getting a fair crack seems like a gift.

Frustrating game, but they found a way to win.  Thank god.

We saw it differently, no problem in that. I thought the 50/50s and non-decisions went in our favour. Doesn't take away from a gutsy comeback though.

Totally agree - can't believe there have been posts suggesting he's dropped! I suspect the same people would call for oliver or trac to be dropped if they had a quiet week....ease up indeed. He's a big part of our backline structure and will be so important as an experienced voice to an inexperienced team during clutch games and (touch wood) finals.

I'd love a job where i get paid more that a million a year like Tim Watson and still point out numerous times what a masterstroke it was putting Howe, who 'was a forward' up in the back line. Preparation must getting their mean make up done for the Channel 7 commentary crew. Embarrassing.

And what about the producers? What do they get paid? Do you think one might send a message tot he ear piece that roos played him off the hb for a season and a half and that he went to the pies so he could play up forward? Sheesh

Actually I think it was the tactical genius Mark Neeld that was first to send him back!

Does anyone have quarter by quarter stats for players? I'd love to know Oliver's first half stats vs second half. He was almost unsighted in that first half (which given his hair is quite a thing), but boy he was influential in the second half. Another tick for the young man.

Exactly. The real reason we beat the Gold Coast scum and the filth.  MFC are aerobically fitter. We out run teams in the second half.

Geez I wish I was home. I was back in Oz during 2010 to 2015 when CS's reign of terror was in full swing. As soon as I leave we start wiping the floor with the filth.

These 10 or so weeks without Maxy (and for the most part Hoges) could be the springboard for our club. I hope we finally have developed the type of resilience  that makes a great club.

I was impressed when Goody, while acknowledging that Maxy and Spencil would be losses, simply stated that we would simply need to find a new way to get the job done in the ruck.

In years gone by, it would have been a case of waffling about how we 'have nothing to lose now' (which was usually codewords for an excuse for losing).

Plus, I've been delighted by how well we have stayed in the moment and have never dropped our heads. Losses to Norf, the Dawks and the Shockers seem to have hurt but not sapped the boys of their confidence. When we are down during matches, we also dig deep. These days I never count us out if we are within 5 goals (and have ample time).

Rewind to a match day thread during 2013 and picture any one of us doing that!

The last eleven rounds really are a wonderful opportunity. Make em count boys!

P.S. It would have been nice for Jack to have done a Tommy Bugg 'shush' to all those Magpie nuffies when he kicked the sealer. What was all that booing about? Do they still think it's 2009 and he can be intimidated by mental or physical intimidation? Or is it that he is something most of them could never be: handsome, intelligent and athletic?

I thought Pies were sailing very close to the wind with HTB a few times in the first half. One of them would try to beat a tackle, and when they were grabbed would just go to ground and make no effort to dispose of ball. As in, should have been HTB. I'd say the umps just decided they needed to tighten up on this in the second half, and they did. If the player made even a weak effort to get rid of the ball, they'd let it go, but if no effort, or fake effort, they'd pay it - correctly.

In other words, they were trying to game the umpires the whole game. Got away with it in first half, didn't in second half.

Our tackling was sensational after half time, and I can't remember a game with so many smothers.

They did it so often it has to be something they're coached to do. Go to ground and cause a stoppage. Sometimes they'd go to ground even before they were touched. They did get pinged for it fortunately.

I remember seeing on the scoreboard that he had 11 possessions to half time and 22 at 3/4 time. He was fantastic in the 3rd Q, that breakaway and pass to Melksham was absolute A-grade*, especially considering he's known more for his contested ball work. He's actually a very very good kick, his kicking was a standout at the draft combine in his year.

Heads up Bucks is on Footy Classified tonight for the whole show. Just so when they talk about melbourne's win he can sit through it.

I couldnt help think if the game was still on the line when Fasolo kicked the winner that the footy gods were with him but I think the footy gods were on Jack's side today and he got back some nice reward from 8 years ago.

also well done on everyone who donated to the MND today. I bought a beanie and they were very warm and soft.

Wasn't at the game, but thought it was class from our fans to give Dunny a standing ovation as he came from the field after a pretty courageous act. Well done to all.

Our fans showed respect, but our seniors? Dunn was very magnanimous in his comments when he was squeezed from our club, but in the pre-game trash-talk and during the match there was a hint from the like of Jones, Vince and Viney that there may be a little more behind the scenes than what we've accepted - i.e Lynden wasn't getting games last year due to not fitting in with our game-style. It wasn't outright hatred, or concocted rivalry, but it certainly wasn't a Joe Daniher welcome-hug. A sense of no great love lost, which surprised me.

Pre game Howe And Dunn were talking to most of our defensive group. Oscar ran over to Dunn and gave him a Dannaher-esc hug.

Umps helped us in the end.

Funny.  I thought most of the poor calls went against us.  Frost being pinged for HTB when he clearly got a handpass off in the first quarter was a biggie.  Then they refused to pay any HTB for us for most of the game.  Watts should have had two of them right in front of the goals in the second half, but both were inexplicably called play on instead.  Watts was also fairly blatantly taken out of a couple of marking contests so the third man could take the ball.  Basically, a normal game for him.

Still, umpiring aside. that second half was special.  It was great to see Oliver take the responsibility to kick the ball himself more often rather than giving the short hand pass.  15 kicks and 11 hand balls is far more what we want to see from him as his game improves.  The fact that 16 of them were contested as well is pretty nice too.

Tyson had a really nice game as well.  Even with his lack of pace, when he's on he seems to be able to find just enough space.

Oscar was great in the second half.  Once he started attacking the ball he showed exactly how good he could be.

One thing I have to say is that this constant chipping to the "hot spot" has to stop.  The best possible result is a score.  Constantly putting the ball to the top of the square in a completely predictable fashion only helps the defence and lets them structure up to take the ball away again.  We'd be far better off simply taking the shot and getting some sort of a score for our effort, especially when we don't have any big forwards to take the contested mark at the end of it.

Look the pies lost because when we lifted they weren't able to match us or stop our momentum in any way. I definitely see us as a better side than the pies

but a few iffy decisions at the end had they not been paid may have made it interesting

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
