Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rohan Connolly redundancy

Recommended Posts

He was pretty outspoken about the recent staff cuts by The Age, so he may have dug his own grave.

It's a shame that his moronic counterpart at The Hun didn't suffer the same fate. As a journo, I'd take Connolly over Slobbo any day of the week.

I'm a big Clementine Ford fan.

I can't get through the day without  being told what an oppressive [censored] I am for being born white and male.

Who reads that rag ?

He'll no doubt increase his audience wherever he goes.

Are you more into the Hun or the OZ, Pro? Or have you ditched all your local newspaper prescriptions for Breitbart News?

A journalist's lot is not a happy one in this day and Age.

Best of luck to Rohan and his colleagues.

Disruptive technologies are shaping this world. I was an avid reader of newspapers... three at least each day if not four when there was an afternoon Herald. Have not purchased a paper in the last five years. Before paywalls I read 2 or 3 including the New York Times but these days it is just the Guardian online.

Remember the National Times ?

Well I'm not into the Son of Communists, ergo, not into Connolly.

And I can't divorce his politics, because he never shuts up about it.

And he barracks for Essendon.

The Age has been garbage for years. It's bad in a way different to how the Hun is bad, which is tabloid garbage. The Age has been a holier than thou, "do as I say not as I do" rag for a number of years. Appealing to inner city elites tends to alienate your previously working class audience.

I didn't mind Rohan but politicizing entertainment and sport stands to be a career killer. Sports coverage in this country is quite bizarre when you compare to the US and even the UK.

Age journos appear to blame everyone but themselves. Fairfax management had been fighting an uphill battle for years. It's the only media organisation that hasn't really changed its reporting strategy for the digital age. It's not feasible to pay one journo $60k a year for one article a week. The work output vs value has been killing that company slowly for years. Rohan is probably a symptom of that. His "voluntary" redundancy suggests either they wanted him to take a pay cut or boost his output, neither of which he wanted to do.

30 years service in any industry is a fair achievement. He was outspoken but I like that in people, especially in today's society.

Connolly complaining about Fairfax cutting staff to reduce costs is a bit like if Tippet complained about Sydney losing players to salary cap squeeze.

Also like Tippet, it has been a loooooong time since Connolly offered anything that couldn't be replaced by a rookie.

Unfortunately most in the 'footy media' are only relevant because they get invited to events, and only get that because their brand-company has built them up as some kind of mini-celebrity.

Don't even get me started on the quality of 'journalism' in general. I get my news online, mostly from DW and a bit of BBC. Even the old ABC is slipping slipping slipping.

Rohan is actually a damn good footy writer.  I can recall an article he wrote about Balmey when he joined the Dees which was just about the best footy article I've read.  i still enjoy his Monday round up of the weekend's games which is fifteen times better than Slobbo's efforts.  And, I don't mind the fact that you see his Bombers allegiance come out every now and then, because it proves that he's a footy fan like the rest of us.   Unfortunately, as Praha and ProDee quite correctly call out, his constant commentary on politics and music and love of his own voice means that I find him unbearable on mediums such as Twitter and SEN.  I had to unfollow him on Twitter because of the fact that he filled my news feed with music videos, and became so sanctimonious when people disagreed with his music taste that it became unbearable.  Rohan, feel free to tweet a great music clip every now and then or something that really gets you going politically, but I follow you for your footy opinions, and when those become completely overshadowed by the other stuff, you become a pain in the Chaminda Vaas!

Sorry I should have been more specific.

35-50 year olds living in East Melbourne, Carlton, Parkville and Albert Park, owner occupier, drive a VW Golf, work in either government or creative industries, earn 150k+ and vote Greens.

Nothing wrong with that but it's a small target market.

In all honesty though when I was studying I saw research conducted by the MEAA that looked at audience figures and journalists.  Journalists were more like to be less than 35, vote Green, white, male, and live inner-city. It's no surprise that papers like The Saturday Paper (which greatly inflates its readership and relies quite a bit on government subsidies) pop up in Collingwood of all places. Imo there is a very clear trend. The Guardian is losing millions. Fairfax is on the brink. Small publishers rely on social justice "gotcha" journalism to amplify their message across social media, enhance reach and maximise profit. You're either tradional and failing, or new age and grubby. The irony of the Age's "independent always" tag is that its self righteousness killed it in an Era of online self gratification.

Absolutely dislike this person. Had to hear about him dancing on our (near) grave at his sons soccer match since 2010. Laughing fit to burst was the (continual) word. Every week Id hear about his chortlings about MFC demise. Any day day now and they deserve it, he would say to the soccer dads. He cant be live on radio or TV because it makes his blood pressure rise, he'd complain about his coodabeen tv career. Shut up F face.

I remember the days when Melbourne was blessed by having two decent (albeit in different ways) newspapers in the Sun and The Age. Days sadly passed I'm afraid.

Now The Orztralian leaves them both in its wake. The Weekend Oz clearly standing as the best 'paper going around.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
