Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm surprised people aren't interested in taking him for the right price. A Ruck/Forward is exactly a position we lack.

Weids is far from AFL ready and will need a lot of time to develop his body and engine in the VFL

Tmac and Watts aren't ruckman. I give credit to them both for filling the void but to be a better team we can't continue on like this.

Tmac needs to be pushed back and stay permanently back to ensure Omac has time to develop.

The other option whom I don't mind is Paeds who needs to play every week from now on when a true ruckman comes in. At the moment he's our best Ruck/Forward and he definitely tries hard. Was surprised he didn't play over Weids at the start of the season.

A goal kicking ruckman such as Tippet would be ideal for our team and take the emphasis on Hogan and provide us with more options.

Reminds me of the time Dutchy Holland went to collect the ball in the clear... and it went straight between his legs.

Tippets a pass for me, games moved on and he's struggled.

Need a young mobile ruck/forward who's got an engine, a forward Frosty with 5 cm more height. Put Jase onto it!

DD... let's consider that. He had a few decent seasons. He then hasn't , for a number of reasons granted. The nett result though isn't that flash. His halcyon days are well past.

What value is he NOW ? Not much in my .

The getting of Tippert offers what ?

Fwiw the Weed's been just as 'dynamic' as ol Kurt....but at least his future is likely to get better. KT is getting worse. His dicky knee ( cue HHIS) doesn't do him any favours.

Hed be a list clogger immediately.

So what's the point

Yeah I can see your disdain, and I didn't mean to suggest it wasn't well founded.

I think what it comes down to is your question of what value he is now. I'd say he's a 3 year top up player for any side that's threatening and wants a player who can ruck well, lead, mark the ball at its highest and kick straight. In terms of ability, he's exactly what you want in a ruck/forward.. which is the current in vogue player type going round.

He comes with baggage, and no form, that's for sure... But when you're looking at speculative guys, that's basically all you can be in the market for. We could make an offer for Jenkins (not much better IMO), but it would require a hefty price.

Does he have value? Yeah I really think he does. Any team that's light on for seasoned ruckmen, or that are playing one ruck in the guts all year with no assistance will take a serious look at Kurt as a 2-3 year stop gap. You're right about what his value is now. I think it's no more than a third rounder. They'll ask for a second rounder though and that's what they'll get, should it come to that.

Dunno that the Weed comparison is relevant, other than to say he takes up space inside fifty and a spot in the 22. Weed hasn't shown he has anything to offer in the ruck, which is really my interest here. Help for Gawn. I don't think we have that "help for Gawn" type guy on the list.

I see a spot for him if things shake out the way they look like shaking out with our talls. Not a list clogger spot either. Just a top up guy that takes care of business for the next three years in which we'll be looking at finals.

I understand though if people feel more like looking at youth. I don't really care either way. I'm more interested in the drafting over the next few years, particularly in relation to KP players.

I think we've gone after Levi hard on at least two trade weeks in the last 6 years.  I think  Neeld was very keen on trying to get him over, and Pederson was a consolation prize.

He's out of contract at the end of the year and, according to this article anyway, considers himself underpaid at Carlton:

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/carlton-forward-levi-casboult-has-resigned-with-the-blues-until-the-end-of-the-2017-season/news-story/078c1fbf91c12d0227943b29334916be

Added bonus in getting Levi would be to contribute further to the Blues' forward-line diaspora.

DD. My only real reservation is to where he is NOW..  At one time he was more than handy but he seems that player that has a good spell and them dines off of it for ever more til no one wants to shout the beers.

He's ALREADY passed his used by date imho. He just goes through the motions. He doesnt seem to have his head in games. I think many of his fellow swannies have twigged to this .

I understand where your argument comes from in so much as ...an experienced KP  player..tall mobile  yadda yadda etc.. Another experienced hand out there is actually ideal. I agree. Not him though.  He's cooked now , let alone three years hence.   Shame in a fashion

Yeah. His career's been a massive disappointment. He's been on the cusp of breaking out so long, and now he's 30.

If there's any truth to this so-called rumour we're reading here, I wouldn't find it hard to believe. I have a suspicion that the club feels it has its future ruck/forward guy at the club already in Fili, Keilty, King etc... and just needs someone to hold down the spot for a couple of years while they stack on another 20 kgs. Oh, and to give Weed more time and less pressure. I don't mind it, as it's speculative... and if you want to pay bargain basement, you have to look into that crystal ball and try and predict what a solid pre season will do for him. Yes NOW he's average. But in 12 months at whatever club he ends up at, what will he be?

I have a feeling this is all moot anyway, as he'll end up somewhere like Bulldogs.

Cloke's replacement ? :unsure::P

Seriously...about the only hypothetical you'd entertain might be if Swans all but gift him and pay the chunk of his money for 2 years.

You'd only take him for 2 years.

Still prefer to pass ;)

Was thinking more as a ruck. They just can't get anyone on the park either as a KP forward OR ruck.

Supporters of teams are a funny lot. If he was one of our own, I'm sure the excuses would be coming left, right and centre in regards to form, injury, being dropped, pay etc.

Clearly, the guy can play. At his best he is a monster and that can't be argued. His best is very very good.

The question is whether or not he can get back to his best and for the right price I'd absolutely be all for bringing him to the club.

He seems off at Sydney and maybe a change would be welcome for him.

IMO the game is moving past the need for a second ruckman. Richmond are currently winning games with Caddy as the second tall forward along with Riewoldt. The Bulldogs have been using Dunkley and Jong as the second ruck at times this year. I heard the Foxfooty commentators the other day discussing if the Giants will be able to play a forward line of Patton, Lobb and Cameron and the general view was that it was too tall. It seems that maintaining manic tackling pressure is more important than winning hit outs or being a chance to take two contested marks per game. And Tippet is not a tackler, so it is a no from me.

Personally, I feel that Watts and Pederson are better forwards in the modern game and that they can do a reasonable job in the ruck as relief for Gawn.

we nearly had him a couple of years back

we cant keep putting watts in as second or even first ruck,

a changing forward / ruck as back up is what we need, sure on a lessor deal and maybe 1 year with a option of 2

Sydney are offering a set of steak knives and he will come very cheap , how many more games would we have won this year ?

if we had another backup ruck/forward

he might be the same here but for what we will have to give up and the room we have in our salary cap,

its worth a try. I see him as a Dawes/ Holland type back up , but at much less cost

Tip will be on the bargain table for a very good reason.

He'll be near 31 come next season. That of itself is not to condemn him but he struggles NOW . This won't get any better.

He's not a certain starter , not too flash anymore even when on the park.

I think a lot of folk are remembering his better days. They are long LONG gone hence the big elbow from Sydney.

I really hope we don't look at players like KT. He's had his day.

Rookie spot for Tippet, Sydney pay 75% of his contract , I know he is a mercenary but could he be worse that Harry O... Lumumba?

We could mess Sydney around discussing Tippet and then swoop on Jones.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
