Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

May's options for a trade may be running out.  The clubs that reportedly had interest and thought May was Demon bound:

  • Pies - committed to keeping defenders, Moore and Langdon and are still chasing Beams.
  • Hawks - trying to get Wingard, Scully and Scrimshaw (GCS).
  • Essendon - committed to Shiel

None of them appear to have cap space or trade currency to do a deal now.

So, we may be his only chance to move back to Vic unless there is a late suitor. Only the Bulldogs or St Kilda would have the trade currency to deal but are not in finals contention.

Exactly right Lucifer's.

We've decided we want him but don't have currency right now.  So how much GCS want to get rid of him will become a factor too.

Agreed.

I guess we would honour any 'in principle' agreement but we may gain from negotiations around the fringes.  eg KK as part of the deal rather or a good pick coming back to us - they will have 5 or 6 picks under # 30.

Bulldogs are a suitor. That is why they are moving Adams onto Brisbane. I expect the May to Bulldogs deal to be finalised by Tuesday at the latest.

Lol.

I just simply don't understand the need to write such things. Unless you actually know something? Which I'm assuming you don't given how many of these comments are thrown around by various posters.

If it doesn't happen, I expect a formal apology to the entire forum of demonland and their members.

An apology for being a [censored].

If all we said was that which we know, there wouldn't be a forum... it would be something like 6 pages, once every 3 months.

People are saying what they think.  That's simply, communication.  It makes the world go about.   The footy world, anywayz.

Mahoney is on record just before the trade period started saying the plan was always to get May as a free agent next year, doing a trade for him this year was never the plan. If the deal can’t be done this year then the most likely scenario is we get him next year as a fa. The benefit of that is maybe we keep Hogan long term or if we do trade him then those picks can be used to fill another need.

I'd love to read that quote?

If true I wonder if Collingwoods interest sped up the process? Or if it was Hogans pending departure?

Dream scenario if Freo refuse to give up what we ask:

We keep Hogan, he plays CHB all year and we win the 2019 flag.

Meanwhile, May verbally agrees to a contract for the end of next year and comes to us as a Free Agent.

Freo finish next year on the bottom of the ladder with a percentage of 52 with their leading goal scorer being Joel Hamling with a total of 16 playing as a key defender.

West Coast offer us the deal of a lifetime for Hogan, managing somehow to acquire two first round picks and a second round pick for an exchange of later picks with us.

We now have the ammunition to trade for Kelly and he nominates MFC as his club of choice in part due to his surprise engagement to Christian Salem.

Melbourne win next 4 flags.

Stevethemanjordan wins the lotto and announces his retirement effective immediately as self-appointed moderator and champion poster of demonland.

The end.

Posted this in the Koldasjhni (no idea of the spelling without looking it up) thread:

I know it's been talked about that we're looking at a future 3rd for KK, I reckon we could offer a future 2nd if they throw in Sam Collins (state league player) who would provide that strong body in the back-line and has improved massively this year. We'd then tell the suns we're out of the race for May this year. Collins would be on a minimal contract so if he doesn't work then we can still have a crack at May next year, but if he carries the VFL form over we'll have a massive win.

A future round first pick will still be less than their FA compo on current form, so we have nothing to give them (pick wise), and there are no rumblings about players.  I think this goes on hold until next year, or we get boned by Footscray.

Not if Freo include their 2019 1st pick for Hogan trade package (which they can do and stay within AFL rules if a 2019 1st or 3rd round pick come back to them during the trade period).

GCS are now looking for future picks (already have No.2, 3, 19, 24 and 29 in this year's draft).  We just need to structure the right deal with Freo to help GCS as much as we can.

For example, GCS did a pick trade last year for a WCE's 2018 1st round but gave up a stack of 2nd round picks so I can see pick trades being part of the May deal - perhaps trade us pick 24 or 29 this year for some combo of our 2019 picks.  This would help us move up the trade table this year and help GCS with 2019 picks.

In a nutshell 2019 picks are becoming very valuable to GCS.  We can use that to our advantage in the May and KK trades.

Just looking at Steven May BnF results, in 2017 finished 9th, this year didn't make the top 10. Pick 5?

Do think a club would reward a player rumoured to leave with lots of B&F votes? Remember Lever at Adelaide last year? Beckman generally don't figure highly in awards anyway.

Where did Hogan finish and is he also worth pick 5?

Hogan was 4th before injury, has a history of kicking goals, 47 this year. Rance, Blicavs, Laird, Rance, Hurley, McGovern, Stratton, Hardwick, Sicily, Jonas etc all polled prominently, won or finished top 10. May really wasnt linked to leaving heavily until this year, in 2017 he finished 9th, at a basketcase club. Buyer beware for pick 5 IMO.

Love it, but +2 more flags.

The golden era 2019 - 2025, thereby surpassing what we almost achieved in '55 - '60.

So you don't think clubs refrain from giving votes to players rumoured to be leaving? I'll agree to disagree and leave it there.

At the end of of the day (or Wednesday, as it is) the actual pick matters little to our trade objectives. If we get 5 as part of the Hogan trade and then use that to get May, we are a significantly better balanced team. IMO we are closer to a flag in 2019 with May than with Hogan, and I rate Hogan highly.

Just wondering if we've had a conversation with Davis...

Seeing as GWS seem to be dumping players due to salary cap I'm sure we've at least had a chat.

I rate Davis as the best real key defender in the game, doesn't get the love he deserves.

This could suit GC and the AFL. To replace their captains leaving, with the potential best young key forward in the game. The publicity alone would be great for them in rebuilding the club.

Possible and a beneficial win-win for those concerned. There are more than first glance countings concerned in this one. Anything is better than:

  • adjusting a team and playing with an unhappy presence when potentially you should be on a roll, and
  • having Freo score Hogan down the track in any way, shape or form.

The AFL bump might assist, as well, seeing the perpetrators of system disregard, cant and fair trading contempt played it out so badly in their first wander into the darkness.

Interesting... he'd be asking for an arm and a leg wouldn't he, salary wise?

Nice left-field one though.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
