Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

Premierships are won by the best defensive side. That's the saying.

May would give us a rock at FB. Big body, quick enough to take a small if needed, strong marker, good left foot roost.

Lever roaming around intercepting at CHB and can groom Harry Petty in a similar mold.

Jetta back pocket. Hibberd flexible rebound and intercept player. Salem on a flank. Locked in.

3 way battle for the other tall spot based on needs out of Oscar, Frost and Joel Smith.
Plenty of competition to see who plays on the other flank.

He's exactly what we need.

Much easier to add wings and small forwards in the draft and that could pretty much be our focus if we land May.

May will be 27 in January. Probably has 4 seasons in him. He is 193cms and that is not big for a key defender these days. He is averaging only 15 games a year over his 8 years. He is not quick and will get slower.

I am not sure he is the best bet.

Would we better placed, if trading Jesse, to ask for their early 2 first rounders, if Neale goes and Alex Pearce, maybe clearing Kent back home in the deal?

Didn’t he speak to us, not the other way around?

I like how the club doesnt leak.  They plan and act.  They leave all of us (and the media) to guess.  It would not surprise me if we are not into May at all.  I could see Collingwood needing to replace Dunn, especially if Moore is lured to Swans.

Hold on tight - I think it is going to be very interesting.

Have to remember he has spent most of his life in a shizen team; if we re to join us would be great addition.  Any pick between 11 and 15 is fair value.

Some supporters on this forum are far too caught up in the world of draft picks thanks to years of having only the national draft to look forward to. It's a brainwashing of sorts.

I'd like to remind some that we just made prelim final and carried 9 players into that game who are under 22/23. That's not including Hogan and Lever.

Whether we get May or not, the point is that we're now at a stage where we may have to pay slight 'overs' for players who will have an impact for us in the short term. The lens needs to be changed now given our list demographic and the fact that we're clearly in the flag window.

And if posters think Steven May wouldn't be that important, you've got rocks in your heads. Go back and watch Frost and McDonald in the prelim. Whilst I'm not blaming the loss on them, it's more than clear that when we don't win the midfield battle, we are extremely vulnerable having those two play in the same side. We need a mature-aged, strong bodied key defender. Not only for performance but to instil confidence and belief in our entire back half.

Every side in the top 8 this year had at least one strong-bodied and aggressive key defender. Collingwood lost Dunn and watch what Kennedy will do to them at the G this Saturday if the midfield battle is even.

Problem with this is.... Yes that is more than likely is trade value however if GC hold onto him next year and finish in the bottom 3 again (more than likely) you know the AFL will guarantee a first round compo when he leaves during FA so they could get anything from pick 2-6 for him...

They might make a stand here & get rid of a captain that doesn't want to be there & start building a decent culture however I know if I was GC I would hold off for a significantly better pick.

I would be horrified if we gave up a top 10 pick for May in a straight swap.

All along I have wanted May, he improves us and is an upgrade on Oscar and Frost, but I dont think a top 10 pick is fair value.

Agree with this, halfway, Febes. I'd keep Frosty who is starting to blossom. OMac can go or be kept as a 'reserve' at Casey.

So would I hence I would want S May with a 2nd rounder in return. Otherwise no deal and move on.

May at 193cm doesnt really help us with our biggest issue at the back - Ben Brown/Cox types. Against these teams I would bring in Preuss along with Lever and O Mac

O Mac is still young and developing and we also have Hibbo, Smith, Frost, Keilty developing etc

May would be handy but I would have our priority as good ball users and outside speed. also Run off HB especially if Hunt doesn't come on

I wouldn't be surprised to see Frost traded TBH.

Agree - trade Frost now at peak value.

He was good this year and we would  not have made finals without him.  He has his dashing pace and attacks the contest but he still has shortcomings  - he dropped or misjudged many marks.

We do need a replacement KPB - I would go for Weed or Hogan because they offer much more class and I think we only can carry 2 KPFs in the 22.  But if Hogan is traded the May deal makes complete sense.

We have developing KPB depth coverage with Petty and Keilty.

I do like the idea of Hogan or Weid playing CHB. Hoges has lost that contested aerial ability for whatever reason but his field kicking is quite good? Whereas Sam flies and has good presence. I like what Frosty brings also, but I'm done with heart in mouth backmen, we need consistently good decision makers. May, while no superstar, upgrades what we have for sure.

Yep, it makes sense. His second half of the season has made him good bait. People won't want to lose him but if we get May we'll be pretty top heavy down back.

I disagree with this, what those other sides had was a well organised back-line and a very good intercepting player - Rance, McGovern, Howe, Sicily etc. We have Lever for that role, he did struggle early in the season with the organisation side of things but you expect that coming into a new team and once that was sorted we went on that great run of wins, unfortunately he then did his knee.

I don't think May is a very high priority, and would be happy to wait until next year and try and get him for free (free agency), because even with him in the team it won't solve our biggest issues down back. Lever coming in will, or a player similar to Lever anyway.

May and Preuss will improve  our side.

Imagine if we had them last week.

May on Kennedy and Preuss stretching the two west Coast ruck man, making it harder to tag just Max and giving us a really tall option up forward.

Whilst Omac has improved and has become dependable to a certain extent, I think it's debatable if he's ever going to be a quality lock down defender against the bigger tall forwards. Ben Brown, Hawkins, Buddy, Kennedy all get a hold of him on a lead or in a one on one too often, hence why Frost became so important to us during the latter part of the year due to his size and speed.

I think people are kidding themselves to assume May wouldn't improve the side. He is definitely an upgrade on OMac. When Lever comes back into the side our backline should be sorted for around 5 years with Lever and May at FB and CHB respectively with either OMac or Frost playing alongside them.

Collingwood and Hawthorn are chasing him if you believe the rumours and they are top 4 rivals. They are both seeking a replacement for Dunn and Frawley respectively. If we obtain May we weaken their future prospects and improve ours in the process by picking up May. If we can get May for a mid first rounder or less you'd be pretty happy. There aren't too many other KPD options out there to improve our backline at the moment and he would definitely help reduce the bleeding that's been happening when we aren't controlling the midfield on our off days.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
