Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

@binman - while I'm certainly not one to write off Oscar, as I do a future for him at the club going forward, the stats you brought up about who we can least do without is pretty useless in this regard.  There are plenty of horrible players on that list who have played in a few wins that have gotten their names on it, which doesn't give it a whole lot of credibility.

Brown kicked 5 on the weekend and some of them weren't down to Oscar like some may make out.  There were times where we kicked the ball out from defence, North marked it and then chipped it back in to Brown's advantage.  It gives our defenders no chance.  He will have his detractors, and I agree with others that we could use another tall defender, but he isn't nearly as bad as some make out.

The thing that worries me most about OMAC is he lack of hunger and intensity. He is so lackadaisical and reminds me of Garland's on field persona.

Go after a KPD this year, then try and bring in Peter Wright next year.

He'd help relieve Max in the ruck, and is more than a handful up forward.

If all it took was our first rounder this year and next to get May or Lever to the club at the end of this year and Peter Wright the following year, I'd happily give up those picks.

Besides, Taylor has shown an ability to pick deep into the draft. As long as we have some 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to keep turning over areas of our list, I'd be happy with this as our list strategy for the next two draft periods.

That said, can you trade two first rounders in consecutive years?

Either way, the obvious holes in the list are a ready-to-go KPD, a forward/ruck and a skilful (preferably) pacey outside mid.

I think we need to keep adding ball winning ability in our midfield too. Viney, Tyson, Oliver, Petracca, Salem and maybe Brayshaw are great, but when Lewis, Jones and Vince go (two of those will hang up the boots within three years), we'll need midfield reinforcements. We might back ourselves to be an attractive FA destination by the end of those three years, and hope to land a few mids to compliment the guys we already have and take over from the guys who will retire.

Then it's about getting more games into our core elite group of Oliver, Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Hogan, Weideman, Hunt and even Frost.

he's going to play chf and ff?.... suppose hoges + pedo will be a big improvement, but being 'fine', i dunno still lacking a kpf and kpb (with appropriate backup depth)

I agree on the back because we don't have a gun key position.  One gun key forward - Hogan plus Watts, Weed and Pedo is enough.   Not to many teams have 2 superstar key forwards

Yeh, I challenged posters to give me a strong attribute that Oscar possesses. And I got two stats. One which I already rebutted because of how misleading it is and the other I didn't even bother with because of how nonsensical it was.

A poster measuring Oscar's endurance against other players, based on the minutes he plays on ground ?! Even though he is a key defender. That is not a thing. It's a nonsensical correlation.

I maintain that at this level, Oscar doesn't possess one strong and consistent attribute. Frost for example is really fast. That is his strong attribute. Hibberd is a strong user of the footy and strong intercept player. D'you see? Maybe we have a different idea of what difines a strong attribute, because it seems you're telling me what I meant by it. Strong attribute = strength.

I'm happy to leave it there.

Watch footage of a young Rance very poor. Darren Glass at a young age schizen. Cale Hooker again nothing to see here. Robbie Tarrant 2009 to 2014 = delist material.Ted Richards ????

Unlike others I don't,mind what glimpses I've seen in Oscar.  I don't think he'sever going to be a star but I think he will develop into a very strong one on one backman

Do not underestimate another 20 games under hisand Frost's belt and what a fit Gawn will do for us relieving the pressure on our defence. I think we need to be careful not to sell the farm on a kpd. A quality forward, some outside run and anotner back up ruckman (not a gun either) are what we need in the jigsaw more than anything else

Another 20 games and preseason in Frost ought to see him really  starting to solidify his game. I just haven't seen the same progressive curve in Oscar.

Midfields help the pressure on backs but really doesn't alleviate the need for proper Full Back... nothing does.

He's 21 years old bub. Oscar is well ahead of the curve for a player of his size and age.

Forget age...its footy nouse.

Itll be 2-3 years before he approached " really useful" at best

We still need a big decent fullback now. Oscar will NEVER be that player, though he and Frost might share a role in future...maybe.

Big call.

Yep... Seen nothing in his game awareness to suggest to me hes a fullback. Tom isn't one either in my book. Tom has a much better awareness and ability to cover some forwards though. He HAS some nouse...just 'odd disposal algorithms'

Again if you're to have say three tall defenders Omac might be one...but a Fullback.  Nuh.

Lol.

Today we have both Steven May and Oscar McDonald playing.

I hope posters can now see that we need a player like May.

Once again, I wonder what on earth anyone can see in Oscar McDonald.

May would be watching us today thinking no thanks, Gold Coast are closer to a flag than us

We have Hogan and Gawn out. GC have Ablett out - who will most likely be out next year for GC. It is just an ordinary game. May isn't playing on anyone of substance. He'd have his hands full with Hogan.

Oscar takes an intercept mark. Was thinking posters would be straight on to me about it.

Alas. He misses a 15 meter target under no pressure yet again that nearly results in a shot on goal if not for Hibberd's calmness.

OMAC us simply not good enough for AFL level football yet. I don't like that we are gifting him games. He isn't the only one though.

It's about time the team selectors start giving games to those who earn them. Look at Harmes, he went back to the 2's and had to force his way back into the team. He was a major contributor in turning the tide in the third quarter.

Weideman is not ready for AFL footy and was sent back to Casey, OMAC should be right there with him.

Wouldn't mind having him in our back line.

TMAC is not a forward, he should only be used as one as relief or last resort only. Plus it gives time for the likes of Frost and OMAC to further develop their game back at Casey.

We need to try and bring in one of May, Thompson (pipe dream) or Lever. It would help settle our back line down. Leslie played alright for them too, so maybe another possibility?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
