Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Adelaide Crows have officially announced they have entered the eSports scene by purchasing an eSports organization called 'Team Legacy'

For those of you who don't know, eSports, is all about playing high-stake video games spurred on by thousands of cheering fans and the prospect of millions in sponsorship, prizemoney and endorsements.

"eSports events sell out," Darren Birch, the AFL's growth, digital and audiences general manager told Fairfax Media. "They are amazing live events.

I was/am a professional international eSports player, and been playing for a Team who was recently approached by 5 clubs (including Adelaide and MFC) for them to buy us out. Thought I'd raise this topic as a bit of a discussion on where the clubs / leagues are looking to expand to.

Unfortunately, what the AFL doesn't realize is that gaming in Australia is a drop in the ocean compared to Asia and Europe. Should be interesting to see what happens and if the AFL actually back the scene.

Could be an exciting time ahead, however I really don't see this taking off.

Yeah? Was it CoD or CS or DoD? I was in Team Immunity. Yeah, very heavily dominated by them. We do well, but it's massive overseas.

IMO the AFL should get together with other consortiums (not necessarily sports leagues) to purchase an Overwatch League license, and base it in Sydney or Melbourne. That's ultimately going to be the future of eSports, city-based teams in domestic and world leagues. It stands to be very lucrative for the AFL if it does it the right way. Buying a LoL team today, in Australia no less, is like racing F1 with a year 12 high school billy kart entry.

Agreed. I went competitive in Overwatch also, was invited to attend World Cup and represent Australia but didn't have the time to take off work or dedicate myself to it. Huge game and the way to go currently.

Hey guys!  For an 'esports' luddite, I'm getting lost in the jargon!

For example what does 'Team Legacy' do and what is an Overwatch League License or an LoL team and what is CoD or CS or DoD ?

For my education- are the 'esports' video games of sports that we know, or war games or something else entirely?

Last question, what benefit is 'Team Legacy' going to be for Adelaide and why should other clubs get involved, other than the AFL saying it is a good idea.

Thanks

Team Leagacy is a multi-eSports organization, where they host players who represent the team under various game titles. Overwatch is a first person shooting game, CoD = Call of Duty, war shooting game, CS is counter strike another first person shooting game and DoD was an old school shooter game also.

eSports video games are a mixture of titles. Some are war / shooting games where you play 5v5 against another team. There are other games called LoL (league of legends) where it's 6v6 and it's called a 'MOBA' game where you select a 'hero' and gain experience and points and eventually you have to enter the other teams base and kill their 'throne / well'

Honestly, they won't be any benefit at all. Adelaide and other clubs were low-balling offers to get into the eSports market and tests the waters. Legacy players might end up donning their Guernseys and playing under the brand, but eventually Adelaide will soon realize there isn't enough coming from them to benefit having them as a side.

Thanks guys.  Good to know there is a weird and wonderful other world out there.

Not sure that watching people play video games is my thing...might just stick to watching live football.

Reading the AFL article it sounds like they want to 'host' esports events at Etihad, with big screens and lots of bells and whistles.  Do you think people will go to a stadium to watch them eg if the event is a world championship? Or will they stay home and watch on the big screen TV's?

Wow, I missed the boat. I devoted my teenage years to playing FPS games online, played in a few tournaments and had a bit of success. There was no career path in it then though, although it was starting to get some momentum. Too old and busy and out of touch with it all for that kind of jazz now.

Didn't realize how big this was, I used to get together with friends for a LAN Session playing call of duty, was so much fun and 6am in the blink of an eye, almost impossible these days to pick up the Xbox controller with 3 kids under 5, I do miss it though I have bought afl evolution and haven't opened it yet lol

Big? eSports is set to become a medal-event at the 2020 Asian games. One day all sport will be virtual. Saves on overheads and insurance costs while providing a similar emotional experience. Hopefully I'll be dead by then.

I'm not so sure about that. I suffered a terribly bruised thumb on the Atari back in the day. And don't get me started on the beer and pizza bills!!

so who plays Overwatch and who do you main and why is Symmetra the cause of every loss, ever?

Not I.

My twitch reflex isn't what it used to be. Or at least that's what I tell myself since I now avoid FPS games. The last one I played with any sort of competence was Unreal Tournament 2004, so that was quite a while ago.

I bought a Switch for the new Zelda which is now one of my all time favourite games. I play Mario Kart with the kids as well, they love it. I used to play the SNES and N64 versions when I was a kid, it's a great feeling sharing the game with them.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
