Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would love to see the Saints win a flag (just not at our expense).

Would be great to see the Tigers get one too, as long as we get one first. I could handle seeing the Dogs get another as well.

Bite your tongue. Every team that gets a flag is one we don't have.

We've probably had the most consistent form in the comp other than the Bulldogs. Haven't had a truly bad performance yet. Crows did against us, Giants did against Crows.

Now watch us stink it up against North lol

Except for last week against the Swans and the first quarter against Meth Coast. North have been fairly consistent for the season to date. Big test Sunday

This seems to be a year of dispensing Hoodoos. Hopefully Sunday is another. Beyond that I don't dare look.

That makes two of us bb.

To suggest we are a Grand finalist at this point must be the greatest act of lunacy so far in 2017.

I don't think it is the worst we'll play this year and I'm not optimistic about our 3 consecutive 6 day breaks with a trip to Perth in the middle following the break.  There'll be some below par performance in that stretch.

It's a pretty crazy daunting stretch for a young team.

Monday: QB vs Collingwood.

Sunday: Bulldogs @ Etihad.

Saturday: West Coast in Perth.

Friday: Sydney under the bright lights.

However, it comes straight off our reset. And, if we got the ball rolling here, our momentum would be irresistible. We will be everywhere. Kicking off with centre-stage on Queens' Birthday, and wrapping it up with a Friday night at the G' - while accounting for two of the big fancies in between and crossing off our Subi hood-doo.

It will be huge - the football world won't be able to escape us. A win, and whammo!, six days later, another scalp, and just six days later, there we are again on the front page! Throw in the glorious return of our two players with the biggest media profile in Max and Jess and it's complete saturation. It will be Clarry choo-choo and the MFC Express - all aboard! The opposition will start to fear us, and, most importantly of all, the young Demons will get a real sniff and begin to believe.

I have no doubt our brains-trust has already spent a fair bit of time considering this monster stretch, and will take the break to carefully strategise our approach. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the plan from the start of the year was to consider the season in two halves. Spend the first half before the bye tinkering, trying a few players, looking at the game-plan, altogether not being too concerned about the W-column, and then release the clutch with a settled best 25 in the back half and see where it goes.

However, most of this is just an elaborate psychological ploy to allow me not to worry about whether we win or lose against the Roos. And dream momentum aside, it doesn't get a great deal easier after this stretch, with a atmosphere-flattened small-stage Australian backwater tour to Darwin, Hobart and Canberra in the following month, leading into some potentially clutch games against the Saints and Pies in the final rounds.

If we can get into a position in the top 8 in the next 4-6 weeks and then get  Gawn & Hogan, our 2 most important players reaching peak fitness at the right time of year l can see no reason why we can't have a real crack.

We seem to have really galvanised as a team with the difficulties that have arisen &  they seem to love being coached by Goodwin.

Having said that we need to start winning the games we should.

With a full fit list finals time look out!!

Nice post Billy.

Points wise we are equal to last years efforts.

The big difference being we could have and should have won all the games we have lost.

Poor kicking against Geelong, Brain fades against Freo and Hawthorn..... Injuries against Tigers have seen us think WTF.

Our triumphs though have been awesome. Smashing our saints voo doo at Ethiad....the epic win in Adelaide. WOW.

Last year we ran out of puff but this year I get the feeling that your comments about getting key players back will see us storm home.

I think we can make finals.....the top 8 will be tighter than a ducks ..

Perhaps 12 will get us in. Once there though we would be the wildcard I guess. Wouldnt it be awesome to see the Dees in a final again. Talk about breaking embarrassing records.

It's extremely unlikely OD but history is littered with young talented teams getting on a roll and pinching a flag before their time. No team has done much so far this year and our best (shown last week) is as good as anyone's to date.

Of course teams like GWS and the Dogs are likely to find another cog come September but at this stage they haven't shown it

North were blown away by WCE in the 2nd half, lost by 7 goals to both the Giants and Swans. That's 3 of 8 games they've lost by 7 goals.

The team is going to lose because a group of supporters dare speculate about the potential for the rest of the season in an online forum. Now I've heard it all.

Really? A thread on Demonland is going to have a bearing on the result of an AFL match? Lols.

There's a difference between "we're the best and only need to show up to win" and "we could be a contender/why not us?/anything is possible"

I think what Deemented is referring to is not so much the creation of this thread but the players getting ahead of themselves and asking the question of whether they're contenders (much like what we are doing).

Too often this club has been up and down and up and down. Even during our "stable" period under Daniher of 2004-2006 our best would be exhilarating but it would be followed up with a stupid loss. I know history, completely different teams, yada yada yada. But two weeks ago there were serious question marks over our fragility and ability to bring it on a consistent basis. Until those questions are answered, I won't consider us a genuine contender.

We are in the mix for the finals, nothing more for me.

When you see threads like this on Demonland, Clayton Oliver Brownlow articles, Jack Watts on the footy show and our players/coaches assure us that "we will prepare for their best", a bad loss is coming.

Historically, yes. But we're on a journey to where we want to go as a football club and the history is irrelevant to this group. ;)

I don't know what's funnier, posters thinking a team that makes the 8 this year literally has no chance of winning or posters thinking the existence of a thread like this could harm our chances.

And when confronted with the last sentiment a poster says they mean this type of thinking "getting in players minds".

Let me tell said poster it needs to "get in the players minds", because they'll have no success without it getting in their minds.  We become our thoughts and those that don't think or dream big generally achieve nothing.

I know what you're saying proDee, one needs to imagine success to achieve it. My point, however, was one of concern about this bigger goal distracting from the old 'week at a time' adage I reckon we need to stick by at this stage.

KB said yesterday we are one of only 3 Victorian teams that can win the premiership this year!.

How's that for exciting.

I think Garry Lyon summed it up best when he said we need to learn how to deal with expectation.

Footy is played above the shoulders, so in that respect I agree with you.  Look at Geelong last night.   They played like men possessed, while weeks earlier they jogged behind or beside their opponents.

Belief and momentum are funny things.  Let's hope we have them towards the end of the season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
