Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very interesting to see demons whipping boy 2nd, yes he handballs and chip kicks a lot but the % is still elite, he has 1 bad turnover which makes it seem like he's had 7.

Frosty, what a gun.. Has improved his kicking and decision making.

TO be fair to posters ripping into him, handballing to a man who gets gang tackled is still an effective disposal.

This.

If he gives a quick handball to a marked player, (which he does too often) that counts toward this efficiency rating.

Meanwhile, the player who recieves the ball is immediately under enormous pressure which reflects poorly on him if he can't dispose of the ball effectively.

They are both mind-bogglingly stupid threads. That is one of many examples of how ridiculous isolated stats can be.

Oscar's disposal efficiently may be elite, but the effectiveness of those disposals is often poor. And he is still very underdone physically.

Having said that, I see him being an important part of our backline for years to come. The coaching staff are doing a great job with him IMO, his progress can't be ignored.

Tall defenders and their disposal efficiency is one of the most irrelevant stats there is.  9 times out of 10 they are chipping backwards or across the ground under little to no pressure.  It's no surprise their efficiency is that good.  Their disposals rarely happen in the heat of battle like a midfielders would.

100% this. Full backs and defenders that switch the ball across the ground under no pressure have the highest disposal efficiency. I know I'd prefer the ball in the hands of Jordan Lewis than Oscar or Frosty if I wanted an effective kick going forward.

We all know DE stats are next to useless. Context is everything.

Having said that it's not his DE that's the knock. Its his physicality or lack of it, his decision making and his intensity that is the problem. He is like a rabbit in the headlights and has a turning circle worse than the Queen Mary. One on one he is a disaster which is why teams try to isolate him all the time.

Its a wonder he gets picked isn't it. How much do those coaches get paid?

For a player who gets so many possessions Oliver DE is awesome!

No wonder he is leading or in the top 5 of so many media/coaches voting.

Any player in the AFL that handballs the ball 75% of the time would have high DE.

On Oscar, he kicks the ball OK just gets caught out of position to often and as soon as it is a contested ball one on one he is beaten, over time as his strength builds this should be less but his brother is also no good body on body

So did we dodge a bullet with Prestia going to the Toiges? Reportedly on 600-700k and goin at 61% DE. Add the fact that Dusty is going at 59% for the year how much does this stat mean?

I don't think I've ever seen Oscar kick the pill further than a 30m pass. The other thing he ever does is handball to a designated kicker.

Has he ever taken a risky long kick?

Yes. You just can't pick it up on the television due to the frame-rate.

We all know the DE stat can be misleading, but it's kind of incredible a guy who plays under the most heat on the ground is going at 81.9%. What a star.

This. The Mac brothers can't win here - TMac mercilessly pulled apart on DL for his turnovers (including by myself occasionally, I must add) and OMac still learning his craft on bigger bodies. The amount of posts I've read suggesting TMac should just handpass to Hibbo/Lewis for better quality disposals from D50 and focus on intercept marking.....

I was really pleased with OMac's efforts at the game on the weekend, he's really coming along which we need as a footy club if we're to be a serious premiership threat in the next couple of years. He is becoming much calmer with ball in hand, and not so much a deer in the headlights, which this stat seems to back up.

Using DE stats for defenders especially is a useless exercise. However using the eye test, O Mac is (or at least will be) a better kick than his brother. I think we're seeing as good as it's ever going to get with T Mac. I see more upside with O Mac in that facet of his game.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
