Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jeff Garlett, give him some love.

Kent might've left his run a bit late, Skuit.

But seriously, no, it's always 2 tall forwards or a resting ruckman in the AA team. The resting ruckman getting a spot is total bull [censored]. If you're not the best ruckman, bad luck. It's a forward spot, give it to a forward.

Surely 2 stats can result from one bit of play.  A tackle which results in a disposal is of more value to the team than no tackle at all.  For a start, the tackled player may not get the ideal disposal they would have had if they hadn't been tackled.

Have been saying on this site for many years that we need to put pressure on opposition.

We were often off balance and delivering poorly while opponents were delivering better due to no pressure

He'd certainly be in the squad of 40 at this point... He'd have to be close to the 22, but selectors would go the more popular option of a Betts/Greene just like Jetta would be being overlooked

So I went and had a look.

2016 included Betts (3rd in total goals), Rioli (10th) and Greene (15th).

2015 - Betts (2nd), Rioli (24th), Wingard (8th).

While a third-tall/utility/forward-ruck may steal a pocket, the littler guys/goal sharks can get a look-in at HF.

See @Monde post above. An effective disposal is recorded as an ineffective/attempted tackle, an ineffective disposal counts as a tackle

Kennedy, Jacobs

And Robinson would be ranked around second or third for goals on Carlton's list right now.

Edit: 3rd - and somehow Levi has managed to kick 13.4 while no-one was watching. That over 75% accuracy!

The resting ruckman probably made sense right up until the last few years since teams have stopped playing two specialist rucks. It certainly doesn't now though.

I just love calling out "JEFFY!" every time he kicks a goal, and I'm doing it quite often these days.

Always brings a smile to my face ,a real weapon for our team.

I'll also add that he gets ripped off for holding the ball after his tackles at least once a game.

We saw him at the team hotel last week after the crows win.  There's nothing of him, but looks taller than on the ground. Kudos to his courage in frightening big defenders and more than not is better than even money to win his one on ones against them. Cue last week. Chasing is sensational .

Luff was steadfast in his view, even when SEN footy analyst David King questioned how a player that averages 10 disposals per game could be the AFL’s best small forward.

“He averages 2.5 groundball gets inside 50 per game, his pressure is number one in the competition, he forces the most turnovers from his pressure in the game, he has an accuracy of 74% and he’s kicking 2.5 goals per game,” Luff replied

Take that to the Lab Kingy :)

Fun fact.

Jeffy is the first Demon (aside from Jesse Hogan who's kicked a few bags) to kick five goals in a game since Sam Blease in 2012.

Actually...that wasn't so fun...

Really love the way he didn't drop his head after the fluffed shots. Has come on this year, really keen to see the back half as I thought his 12-23 < 1-11 in 2016. Personally I think he has drunk the koolaid along with the rest of us.

If the AA selectors are serious, Garlett should be in the opposite pocket to Eddie Betts.  Not only has Garlett kicked 25 goals already but his pressure and tackling have been elite all season.

But I am sure they will put a FF or CHF in the pocket just cos they kicked a few more goals than Jeffy or play for a more popular team.

Given the number of very good small forwards this is quite a feather in Jeffy's cap.  Even if people don't like the stats approach there is no doubting Jeffy's game has gone up a few notches this year.  Not only that he is performing consistently at that higher level rather than his cameos of last year.

You lost me at David King

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
