Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I feel a small amount of humour is warranted.

I also found a lump on my [censored] a few years back, while.. uh... 'checking'...

Mine was benign fortunately. Scared the [censored] out of me though.

Best of luck Jesse.

I like these stories about how people came up with their username.

Great to hear the surgery went well. Note that the cancer was removed from the [censored]. My guess - Jesse will be back playing in no time.

Puts the Adelaide performance in a new light considering the players were told on Friday.  Those brutal Weideman tackles look like they were executed with his mate Jesse in mind.

Also cant help but shake my head at the irony that it was Sam Rowe who Jesse whacked in Round 2 when he was suspended.

All the best Jesse, cant wait to see you back out on the G sometime after the bye, dominating in our charge to the finals.

The gods are throwing all the obstacles at us this year.

But the group is strong. We will support our players and overcome adversity.

Indeed. Sounds like the obstacles faced/overcome by the Bulldogs last season!!!

I've now seen all of today's pressers, and a number of media commentaries about Jesse's situation.  They reinforce what we already knew, and that is that we support a great football club.  Their professionalism in handling the situation has been of the highest order, and we know that their support for Jesse and his family will be unstinting. I'm very, very proud to be a tiny part of the 'family'.  Get well quick Jesse!

I know I've said this couple of times recently but was at an event with Mahons and PJ speaking approx a month ago and PJ just highlighted again and again his main role early doors was to get quality people in the door. (Paraphrasing) "a footy clubs only real asset is its people, it needs quality, committed people for it to be a success."

All he did was look to find the assets to drive our culture and to develop long term sustained success. Even though it is not a great time for Hoges the culture of people now at our club is shining through often.

I know it's been said a lot that it has a very high survival rate but I thought I'd also share a family friend had it as well and not only survived but had children afterwards.

Similar story here Pates. A work colleague had testicular cancer 20 years ago. He was left a bit lopsided but now has 3 teenage kids.

A great reminder for all you man out there to check yourselves and seek medical advice if in any doubt!

Trust me, getting your balls checked by a doctor is a lot less invasive than the [censored] us women have to do in order to get tested for cancers, some of which can't get detected until it's too late anyway.

Go get checked and save your life!

A bit more on the behind the scenes: http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/melbourne-forward-jesse-hogan-diagnosed-with-testicular-cancer/news-story/355c4b600b5293f0a8140ada716fbbb4

Mahoney's comments on Jesse:

“... what we’re seeing is a young 22-year-old mature before our eyes,” ... “The way he’s handled the death of his father, returned to the club and the way he handled himself that week was a tremendous effort. ... “All we can do as a club at the moment is offer support and help him and his family through this. ...“We’re confident from what we’ve seen already he’s going to bounce back out of this. He’s a very resilient character.”

Mahoney's comments on team mates:

“You can imagine how emotional they were about the situation that Jesse’s going through,”  ... “For them to perform the way they did on the weekend was all they could do. They said all they could do for Jesse was play the best they can. They’ve been tremendous with him ever since. ... “It’s inspiring what Jesse has been through this year to still perform and still be around the club. It’s one of those ones that when he does get back, everyone will rally around him and look forward to him getting back to playing.”

Moving comments.

I'm amazed that the players were told on Friday and there were absolutely no leaks until the story was released today. That's a seriously strong football club. Particularly when you think about all the players who did media interviews immediately after the match and who could have easily slipped up and accidentally mentioned it. I had my doubts about Viney as captain when it was first announced, partly because of my concern about his public speaking skills. I am much more confident now about him.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back in 6-8 weeks considering no chemo required.

I think getting back into the routine will help him.

I was also amazed as a lot of people at the club and maybe their families would have known over the weekend and no leaks - as you say a strong club.

And like you, Viney has gone up in my estimation and his position as captain, especially after I read this article http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/jordan-lewis-has-revealed-how-melbourne-responded-to-news-of-jesse-hogans-cancer/news-story/6e4082d3609c47e08756c4f1d47ab41e

According to Jordan Lewis, It was Viney who revved up the guys as they were about to play and said "...to just go out and enjoy it. You know, play hard. One of our own is at home who is sick, who would love to be out here so take the opportunity and enjoy it. ... It was certainly mentioned going into the game that one of ours was hurting at home so if you’re going through a tough time tonight, dig deep.”

Inspirational by the young captain.  He led from the front in every way.  And the team delivered for him and for Jesse.  Equally inspirational.

I suspect a fair few people knew - even some on here - but that everyone respectfully kept the details out of the media/gossip columns. Till that purple pissant came along.

Provided all of the information released is correct, my son (a surgeon) and my wife (a GP) both believe that he might be right to go sooner rather than later given his strength and physical fitness. He should only need some antibiotic to prevent infection, general pain meds to cope with the discomfort and a few days off his feet. My son admires Jesse's maturity and common sense in seeking out the doctor immediately and said 95% of young men, particularly young athletes, would have said "she'll be right" and waited until things got worse.

This is what I was told also. Could well be back in a couple weeks. Club doing the right thing and giving him some working space with public expectation (and I'm sure all the genuine time he needs).

True thing. When I chatted with Jesse's dad two years ago, the main issue they had with Jesse as a kid was trying to stop him burning himself out with all his training and physical preparation. After school he would apparently go for a surf, go to training then do a gym session and an extra run. He lived for footy, and the more he trained the happier he was, sometimes to his physical detriment. Much like Jack Viney at school/underage footy, his dad also had to coach him in not hurting people with his physicality. I suspect we'll find that footy IS life for Jesse, and his idea of the best psychological/emotional and physical recovery will be to get back out there as soon as he can.

That Purple pissant released the news with full knowledge and approval from all involved. He isn't a bad guy here, he is simply the first to release the news (with full permission to do so). Purple is also fed his news directly from the AFL, other journos get theirs from other sources. If you are wondering who is aligned where just look through the articles from the doping saga, it is clear as day who pays the bills.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
