Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Daniel Ward - Open Mike

Daniel is on Open Mike this Tuesday. Often underrated, he was an excellent player for us. Look forward to the interview, hopefully Mike does a better job than the Febes interview and focuses more on football.

I'll upload it on Youtube and post a link on Tuesday

This interview will be to Iron Mike what an unguarded pork chop is to a starving dog. Despite being able to talk about footy (after all Fox Footy is meant to broadcast a certain sport whose name escapes me now), he will most likely wander into tragedy porn and tawdry soap opera material.

Absolutely no chance. There will be a token minute or two on his football career. He might even mention he played for Melbourne. It will be about his gambling addiction, as Febey's was about his alcahol and drug issues and Balls was about snotting Terry The Tan Wallace. It shits me to tears. It's the same format every time - brief mention of footy career, then Mike apologises for revisiting whatever the controversy* is or was, or promises to just briefly touch on it and that's it. The whole show is then about said issue. They then return to the player's football career in the last minute of the show, if that.

*There are, of course, former players who see 'Open Mike' as an opportunity to draw attention to their issue/cause and rightfully so, but there are others who would like to be remembered for their footy.

Just watched this, worth a watch pretty honest discussion about Daniel's gambling addiction. Interesting that Simon Goodwin was caught up with betting on AFL matches at that time too.

You were spot on about the token minute or two although I think your asterisk came into play as was the case back when The Ox was on the program too.

Interesting that Daniel has been trying to meet with the AFL about their gambling association. 7 and fox footy need to reduce their reliance on this income stream too, but I suspect that it would be a case of pushing poo up hill. At least Deesbet has disappeared from the club's landscape.

Mike is well past his prime and should be put out to pasture completely.

While I was certainly interested, humbled and inspired  by Daniels courageous openess on his gambling issues, it dominated the interview and got so repetitious that in the end I almost switched off and lost interest.

There was so many good footy topics that could have been explored, from someone whom I remember as a somewhat non glamorous, but capable and reliable footballer at a time that we had a really good team.  Was glanced on that we had won 6 games in a row leading up to the 2000 GF and that we had a pretty decent chance, but then left there with barely anything more said.  Could have explored that game so much further.

Personally as a supporter, I regard the 2000 GF as the one that got away.  I really do think it was conceivable that we could have done a Hawthorn 2008 to Essendon, as we were about  the only team that got close to themy all year and I thought we actually had the troops that could have pulled it off.

The less said about GF Day 2000 the better.

We were smashed up so badly.

I was there till Long got his Medallion, Gave him both barrels, then left

arrived at 1am the night before.

I found Wardies Gambling story both sad and fascinating.

I have never gambled myself, but addiction takes many costumes.

Glad he woke up...

Tough interview to watch. Daniel certainly looked uncomfortable, takes courage to agree to that.  It was clearly an interview about one footballer's gaming addiction rather than an interview about football. He has some demons he has to deal with on a daily basis that essentially rule his life and determine his relationship with his wife and kids, his friends and family, and his employers. I admire his ability to take responsibility and fess up, and his determination to be a better male role model than he had experienced in the past. He knows the legacy that he has been given and what he wants to pass on. Addictions of all kinds can ruin lives.

I enjoyed watching him as a player and wish him well in the future.

Unlike some, I didn't mind that Mike (a Demons member) focussed on the gambling rather than Daniel's football career. The interview conveyed a strong anti-gambling message at a time when the media is saturated with gaming adds. So gratifying to see him back on track and warming to hear the support that he received from Daniher!

The groundwork for winning that game was layed by Terry Wallace. We chose not to flood and were blasted out of the water by superior firepower and bullied by their cheating thug defence and Michael Long. The one that got away if we were brave enough to try something different to the entire year. Perfectly understandable on Neal's behalf that we would go in as we did the weeks prior, we were playing scintillating footy and it was worth a crack.

For all his bluster and bravado from David Swartz after some of our bad losses in recent years, I (perhaps unfairly) hold him and others responsible for our fate that day, after they failed to fly the flag after Brad Green was ironed out by Michael Long.  Every time Swartz opens his mouth on matters like the team showing some heart, I just think he is so full of it.  I loved him as a player at his peak, but I have lost so much respect for him since.

Could've used Marcus Seecamp or Rodney Grinter :)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
