Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is slightly different, though.  If it was about contracts, a proper injury etc then speculate away.  But as @Lucifer's Hero said, this is a personal matter and something we should allow to play it's course until we know more.  Surely Hogan deserves some respect in this situation... ?

It is, but it doesn't mean you have to.  I like how you still want to have a dig at me as well.  Can't help yourself.

If you think I was having a dig at you I apologise it was not my intention.. We just have a difference of opinion I think.

i actually try not to have "digs" at people because they have a different opinion to me.

Wasn't directed at you at all OD.  I have no problem with difference of opinion, I apologise you thought it was directed at you - it was at america de cali and his 'group think' dig.

Neita spent a lot of time down back before becoming a gun forward. I reckon TMac showed what experience as a back man does for your performance up forward last night. You could almost feel his joy at taking on the positive role in the one on one contests.

Tmac is also quite aggressive with his kicking, much to the chagrin of many. And prepared to take players on with his trademark side step/baulk. Up forward this aggression has a much better risk/reward balance. I loved the bit of play that set up the Garlett free kick and goal.

Which he must love. I wonder if even with Hogan and Gawn back in the side they might give him some little burst up forward in some matches to keep the opposition unsettled and to free him up.

I think Hogan is a massive asset but we need to work out how to get everything ticking with him in the side.

On the weekend, we played a four man forward line at times. If one of those 4 was Hogan, I think he would have had a field day with that much space. He is a great one on one mark, we need to work out how to isolate him.

I don't share the sentiment that we are better without him. If we hunt and tackle like we did on Saturday night and move the ball quickly and with decent efficiency, Hogan will cause massive headaches for any back line.

Is there any word on him yet? I know there's rumours galore... Forget all that... Has there been anything offical from the club, or failing that, something from a half decent journo about this week? Or an ETA?

Sorry Bin - but I don't think that's the best bit of play to highlight. Tmac took quite a while to wheel around and load up when he saw Garlett on the open lead. Ended up putting it on our small-forward's head rather than a flat kick to advantage. Although Garlett can share some blame for running an angle away from the kicker - I think he expected Tmac to bomb long quicker and was hoping to run onto some of his bread and butter.

Th ekick out the back would have only worked if he had kicked it straight away but he was covered and handballed to Weed who basically gave it straight back to TMac. TMac then side steps and kicks long, a kick that was to Garletts advantage, levaing his opponent little option but to give a front on free kick. Well played i reckon

Oh. We're talking about different occasions. The one I was referring to was the kick from half-back from Tyson.

I doubt there is anything wrong with him physically mono. There has been no explanation of "sick" that I have seen.

You see, this is the reason I like to wait for "facts".  I know it's unfashionable, but it's prudent.

The club said "illness" and I was prepared to take the club on face value until we heard otherwise.

I didn't like the rumours and innuendo by posters on here with the insinuation he had mental demons due to the death of his Father.

A lesson to all I would have thought.

Sorry LH I don't agree with the whole censorship business. Censorship has a habit of burying issues that should be talk about.

Just my opinion!

Not about censorship at all od - its about privacy imo.

We now have the very sad, sad news that Jesse has testicular cancer.  The club was absolutely right in protecting Jesse.

In an ironic way your post is correct about not burying issues that should be talked about.  Testicular cancer is a major health issue for men and if there is to be a positive to this sad news, prompting others to be checked and open discussion will benefit many people.

Out of respect for Jesse, this thread should locked.

What?? Hogan is out of the side for foreseeable future. The no hogan effect will hurt the side and should be discussed.

Our forward line wasn't functioning well on the weekend before Goodwin made changes.

Not sure we would want to be 28 points down every week and rely on Plans B and C.

The OP was about whether we're a better side without Hogan, based on 3 good wins without him. By all means start a thread discussing how we'll cope without him, but that wasn't the intention of the OP.

Good to hear Tim Smith is only a week away from return.

Even if he's not fit enough just yet to play Goald Coast its good to know we've got another taller forward available for the next few weeks. Might take some pressure off Weids if he starts feeling the heat.

The thing that will take pressure off him is when he starts playing like an AFL level player

Not all 19 yr olds develop as quickly as Clayton. Give him a break. As cliche as it is, big men always take longer to develop. He didn't get the extra time that Jesse had at an AFL club. I thought he showed some really great signs with his aggression last week. Tackling was great and provided a contest. Couldn't have asked for much more from the young lad who has come in because of a shortage of 'AFL level players' at his position.

That's just plain wrong.

The OP discussed the positions on the field Jesse might be of most value.

I don't think it's disrespectful to discuss this, even with today's news.

I personally think the topic is based upon a very small sample of 3 games, but as long as posters are respectful of Jesse's current situation there is value discussing our structures and options when he's in the team and not in the team. Threads often morph and change direction. This thread can discuss options while Jesse is recovering from his cancer.

I don't agree necessarily with the OP but I don't think it's disrespectful.

There's a place for censorship and being PC. But within reason, this topic isn't one of them.

If we can continue to improve and win more than we lose over the next 8 weeks, the prospect of adding Hogan and Gawn back in as we make our run towards finals is one to salivate over.

Hogan healthy, fit and focused is a big weapon that we're yet to see the full potential of.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
