Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We all have tipping points for lots of things.. The bloke's obviously reached his.  Would you think he would decide to do that lightly ? Don't think so

We all deal with things in our own way.

I actually agree with some of what he has to say.  Im not chucking it in...but tbh Im still non plussed how a coach has a go at players about attitude  etc. I mean wtf prepares them?  just saying.

The guys a lunatic in desperate need of some perspective

Ok...I like good healthy debate as many of us do on here.

Before I go on & make some points let me say this. I've read through here and am in total agreement with 'Hardtack' and am totally disgusted with the way one of our players has been hung out to dry.

I also think a lot of supporters and I use the term loosely need to calm down and make a logical assessment of where we are...

I've been critical of some of things Goodwin has done and like others think we probably over use the ball. Our skill level is not good enough yet for the game style.

I do think we have issues with the list but I'm pretty sure those in charge understand & will work to fix it, we have what we have for season 2017.

A few of things keep coming to mind though.

1. I think Goodwin's working well with what he has. How he manipulated the situation with EFC was masterful coaching. How we ran over the Saints, similar.

2. We've been in every game we've played, probably the only team to do so this season which means we are more consistent than we get credit for. Yes, I would like a better win loss record & I get p....off too. We all seem to agree our defence is not great but somehow we manage to stay in games. The coach must be doing something right.

3. The big one that keeps coming back to me though is Clarkson's situation early days at Hawthorn. I remember the complaints at the time from fans and so called experts in the media about the game style, lack of skill & how they mucked around to much with the pill. So I went back & cut some quotes from articles about that time...season 2006. The part comment in bold probably sums things up pretty well.

.....Clarkson implemented clear ball movement patterns and structures during his first two seasons, but wins were limited because his team did not have the experience or skill level to carry them out........

......Dunstall said calls for Clarkson's head were reflective of the emotion that accompanied roller-coaster performances.

"After week one (when Hawthorn beat Fremantle), I was approached by people saying, 'Why hasn't the coach been re-signed?' After week two and a bad loss, they are asking, 'Does he know what he's doing?' That's how fickle the game is."

According to Dunstall, the league's most inexperienced coach will not be affected by the criticism.

"He'll hear it and it might be a little bit of baggage he carries outside the club, but he'll cope very well with that," Dunstall said......

......The Hawks stated a mid-season review would settle the future of their coach in 2006 as they decided to extend Clarkson's contract. Bookies at the time questioned what right he still had being head coach of a footy club. They finished the season well (won their last 4) but those 9 games that they won in 2006 (5 in 2005) were against Carlton twice, Essendon twice, and a pathetic Geelong twice with the other three wins coming at 'defacto Glenferrie' Aurora Stadium, Tasmania.

He was pilloried for having an awful gameplan, based on this nonsense of over-possession that was seen as the latest fad. He stuck to his gameplan and overhauled the list to get players to the club that could handball and run and carry the football....

Far out man, the fact that you had to censor the word "racism" says a lot. I would love to see some of your examples of racism on here in regards to peoples criticism of JKH.

Racism is the discrimination against an individual based on their race. Let it be clear that not a single person here or in the media has ever made any sort of racist determination in this instance. There may have been examples of 'profiling' - the expectation that JKH should be some freakishily-skilled small-forward - and then some generally embarrassing confusion in identification - the inability of commentators to correctly pick Garlett from Jetta from Jay (I was getting Hunt and Wagner mixed up on the weekend if this is any sort of consolation), but no-one is judging JHK based on race. The very suggestion is upsetting.

The fact that half of the letter is typed, there would have been a million green squiggly lines before he pushed print. If you're going to send a letter to 'The Ox', proof read the bastard first!

"BTW" Probably wouldn't be taken seriously anyway...

He isnt jumping ship 7 games into a season.

He is jumping ship after 11 years of no finals and 53 years of no ultimate success.

And in that 11 years the majority of it has been floggings week in week out, not finishing 9th.

Firstly, about the letter. Seems primarily directed at Goodwin, somewhat on a personal, previous experience. Together with speaking for other people as well.

The "author" did also seem well aware of how this letter was going to be blown to where it would do damage. That said....

This site is a sitting target for haters, it is well versed in sarcastic, umpire abusing, media reviling, side splitting humour that a lot of blokes here love, god bless them.

JKH abuse verged on ra###m for me, and i was not amused. The rest was childish and amateurish in my book and water off a ducks back.

The bloke has been the boss for seven weeks. There are blokes still to play, and we have one of the most lauded outfits in the AFL. Give us a break. It only takes one win "next week"

If you think the comments were racist, I would put you below the level of the letter writer.

Get a fugging grip. Just an idiotic statement.

Are you describing the MFC in 2010 or 2017? Here in lies the problem for many. We've been hearing the same excuse for 11 years.

We could easily be 6-1 or 5-2 but alas we are 3-4..... is it really that bad though? Like others have said, this is nothing like the Neeld era....

We have lost 4 games by a combined margin of 47.

We've won 3 games by a combined margin of 90.

That tells me we are doing a lot right, but a little luck and a little lack of composure has cost us.

Still very positive for the year ahead, and even if we don't make finals the young players are learning to face adversity and be resilient. Those that can't won't make it, but the ones that do will be preparing for an even bigger test, finals footy.

Perspective.

Like many I feel the same as this bloke sometimes, I did on Sunday, game was there for the taking and we didn't find a way, but at least we COULD have won it.

Again like many I think JKH has had his chance, must be out this week, that's all that needed to be said. To criticise him in the manner that he did was not needed and takes away from some of the actual issues we are facing that he pointed out.

Do not know how he could give up now after the last decade of rubbish.

I know , it's strange that he gives  up now when we have such a great young team, and he didn't give up in the Neeld era.

I also think it's the fact that many supporters are still adjusting to the idea that we are a decent footy side - in the past a loss like Sunday's would have brought praise, but now we are changing our perspective and expectations and we're almost going too far with it.  Now that we have some talent we just expect finals to happen, for the wins to roll in and for the success to come quicker than it should.

It will happen, but we still need to be patient, even if we don't know how to do that with a young side choc full of talent.

And this year is nothing like 2010, either.  Nothing at all.  No similarities whatsoever.  Back then we would still get creamed by sides, come out and win next week, then go out and get creamed again.  This time around we are constantly in games and you feel as though we aren't far away from 'clicking'.

It's a shame the guy who cut up his membership isn't sane enough to enjoy it.

Exactly mo always the same tripe

Me personally I would love to hear exactly what the coach is going to do about the team and particularly the senior players and leaders not turning up to play or in Goodwin speak a poor attitude

Young coaches and young lists dont seem to bother other teams but at Melbourne its a perenial problem or excuse

In 2010, we were a young side choc full of talent, but didn't have the experienced recruits like Vince, Lewis and Hibberd. In 2016 and 2017, we're getting beaten by teams with inferior talent. The excuses are starting to run thin.

And you have a short memory. Round 23 2016 v Geelong 111 point thrashing wasn't that long ago.

The Geelong game was a young side at the end of a season with nothing to play for.  Our big losses back in 2010 were still happening in the middle of the year with plenty on the line.  Totally different.

And two of our losses this year were on the back of our ruckman going down before half time.  The other 2 we lost by 3 points.  We aren't that far away and, again, it's totally different to those years prior.

We've  had bugger all success for so long , with the same tired lines trotted out  time after time that it wouldn't surprise me if they are now embedded in the clubs Constitution !!

Personally after half a century and more of f all achievement by the MFC ,  I like many of my kindred pay no heed nor give any weight to ANYTHING the club, the coaches or players SAY anymore. It's worthless. We only take notice of what the Dees DO ( thats painful enough lol ).

Again everyone has a tipping point. I dont think this bloke thought it through but i dont think he expected it to be showcased either. Naive perhaps I'd agree. SEN being what they are..well...

Unfortunately for Harris hes a non AFL std player. He got singled out. He did so because as the writer suggests Goody seems to be persistent in a direction which quite frankly needs revision. It aint working. This has been the camel breaker for the member and is his perogative to cancel should he feel like.

There is more to enjoying life than footy, Especially for a Dees Supporter.

I would be surprised if the writer had any beef really with JKH as such. I dont. Thats not the actual point of the angst. The author is seeing it as symtomatic of continued failure and has had enough. I find it funny that elsewhere im said to not understand forests and trees.

The member was fed up. This particular issue just put the necessary extra gravity to finally destroy whatever patience he had left.

Tbh . I empathise.

I reckon about four players away. Then we have to fix the starting a the first bounce problem.

You just have to laugh,  whilst I love the guys passion, It's very hard to dump a truck load of snow at the clubs front door (SEN caller)

As for JKH    I seem to remember similar comments about Nev Jetta a few years ago, a bloke who was delisted and re rookied and now one of the first picked in the side.

Some players take time to gain the experience and confidence to play their best footy.    I don't know if it will happen but I hope so.

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
